Weather and Moon Lore—Tuesday, March 22, 2016

Moon-and-fox(This is an old photo, but I love the fox and the corn and the full moon, so decided to use it for today’s post.)

Today is March’s Full Moon beginning phase…I love the full moon!  Anyway, this is called the Worm Moon in the Northern Hemisphere.  The earth is beginning to warm, the ground to thaw and the earthworm casts to appear.  Once this happens the Robins return to brighten our days. (Although I’ve seen robins for a bit now.)

In the far north this moon is called the Crow Moon–the cawing signals the end of winter and in the eastern part of the north is the Sap Moon marking the time of tapping maple trees.

StunningThere is also old farm lore that says if the 21st of the start of the four-seasons…(yesterday was the 21st of Spring) will tell what the next three months will bring; hot, dry, windy or cold.  We had beautiful weather yesterday…the morning was clear and bright and warm, by the afternoon the wind came up…a warm wind.  Then the clouds started flinging themselves over us.

The wind blew off and on all night (although it was a warm wind) and is still gusting heavily; although it’s still warm it is cooling down.

Rolling-1

Terry is rolling the plowed fields (still) it takes many acres of rolling before he can start leveling.

Maybe you know some more interesting rural (country) lore.  If you do, would you please share.  I rather enjoy collecting them.

A Small Frozen Fog—Tuesday, October 27, 20015

morning-fog-2.jpgWe had a wee fog this morning, caused by very cold temperatures from the very wet ground (the sun came out yesterday afternoon…Boomer and I went out and danced on the lawn, it was too wet to take a walk. 🙂  )

Moon-2And the very lovely clear sky and the warmer canal water.

Morning-Fog-1I’m wondering if we had a freeze.  It is possible.

Morning-Fog-3The grass was rather crunchy when I walk out to get some early photos…as the day warms up I will be able to tell.

It’s time.  Actually, a little late.  But that is okay, I’ve enjoyed the warmth while it lasted. 🙂

As always your friend,

Linda

Gifts—Wednesday, October 14, 2015

Corn-and-Sun-1We are all blessed, each and every one of us.  But sometimes…just sometimes life gets in the way.

Fall-1Something that takes us away from looking at the good–something that makes our hearts and minds roil in panic or sadness.

Crazy-MoonStill the gifts of this world keep on shining…

MovingTelling us to be calm.  Given time everything works out.

Rainbow-2Everything!

As my dear departed Momma always said: “Everything works out for the best, if you just let it.”

Pink-in-the-clouds

And it does.  It really does.

A Deep Hush, Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Night-coming-inThe farm at twilight sends out  a deep hush

hollyWhich says:  “Step lightly…listen carefully…

Swallow

The Swallows catching supper lend a peacefulness to the cooling air.

Moon-in-TreeThe plants stir gently in the gentle evening breeze

Peek-a-booGlittering moonlight shatters the gloom sending waves of silver–much kinder than the sun, slower…a different rhythm– bringing on that space of time called night.

Waning Moon—Monday, March 9, 2015

Over-the-plateauThe moon is starting to morph into a different look, not as full, coming up later in the evening and much later in the day.

Dead-Man's-LandIt’s still really beautiful.  The early dawn gave the moon a slight pink shade as it slid under the rim of the Uncompahgre Plateau.  (Un-come-pah-gray—-accent on the pah.)

You can see more of the houses on the flat lands just before their ground drops off into Robideaux Canyon…you can also see the edge of our mesa (and farm) at the end of the corn field.

It’s up there clear above the snow packed slick canyon walls Mr. Davis and his daughter’s cows will spend their summer days.

Off now to go work in the old coal room.  Soon it will become a much different room. (Terry and I hope).  If we don’t go down there, we will start hauling dirt to build ditches with and to level out some of the fields.  Seems like we have way too much stuff to do right now.

Hope your day is a good one!

Linda

I love the moon!  I love when the moon is full — spreading sliver and crystal and blue lights upon the land.

Rising-2

The dogs and I go for a walk, just to be showered in the lovely glow

Rising-1

We go just as it’s just coming up and we go again just before nine at night

December-moonI always try to wake-up sometime during the night, just to take the dogs and go walking down the lane…oh, sometime around one or so in the morning.  The dogs know the second I start putting on my Carhart we are going for a walk.

I don’t walk out into the fields late at night…too many coyotes and other critters I don’t want to meet, but in the evening we do.

PaoniaIn the evening we are surrounded in the glow of the winter sunset

Raggeds1With the air full of winter bird calls…the Canadian Geese and the Sandhill Cranes…later after mid-night the owls will hoo-hoo -hoo , we will hear a fox barking and the coyotes yipping as the moon light and the star light fills the shinning clear air.

We will walk along, the dogs sniffing out news and I watching stars fall from a million years ago.

The neighbor’s dog (who lives outside, no matter the temperatures) will hear us crunching along in the snow, or hear me calling to Boomer to not go off too far…he adds his warning bark to the other sounds.  His people, either don’t care nor never hear, I call to him…’It’s okay…it’s just us walking in the moonlight.  It’s okay…’  He stops.  Then calls out again…”GOOD NIGHT” I call back…’Sleep Well, little dog!  Sleep Well.”  Then the dogs and I go in to the warmth of the wood stove and snugly blankets.

December-moon

By five in the morning the moon has made it’s way to shine into the bedroom windows, lighting up Sammy the cat as he sleeps on the edge of the bed. Sam puts a paw over his eyes and keeps on sleeping.  Monkey jumps into the window to watch the world from the warmth and safety of the house.  I too watch the world as the moon slowly sinks and the day begins.

Good Morning everyone!

The Moon last night was outstanding!

Witching-Moon

We were in town for a little drive…the day had been hot and we were a little tired so we loaded up the dogs and headed to town.

Pink-Moon

Our little town is creating a by-pass for traffic that wishes to not drive down Main street or wait for the many trains that travel through several times a day.  Every day the construction changes so we thought we would ‘go see’ what it looks like.

Lake-3

We looked at the by-pass, drove around town and looked at the houses up for sale, some very pretty yards and then headed on home — the long way–going by Confluence Lake and Park.

Lake-2

The moon was outstanding and the sunset over the lake stunning.

Lake-5

Today we are expecting company around noon, so I much get myself busy.

I am still very behind on answering comments and visiting your blogs…gradually I am getting caught-up.  Please know that I really do appreciate your stopping by and leaving comments.  I also enjoy very much seeing what is going on in your lives.  Do not give up on me for I am gradually getting a routine back into my life.

Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons

In Jackson, Wyoming….Jackson Hole refers to the valley.  The Mountain Men of yore called valley’s hole, thus Jackson Hole.  We found

Antler arches…amazing pile of antlers…on each corner of the city park square

The we saw the Grand Tetons in the Teton National Park.  I remember seeing this when I was fourteen years old and fell into awe with them at the time.  My awe has not changed…they are still wonderful!

We rode the tram to the diamond and double black diamond ski slope at the peak of of the Tetons…

The wind at the top was S.T.R.O.N.G!

ButBut the view….

WOW!

I could never ski down this, but I’m sure there are those out there that would delight in tackling this mountain

The moon that evening was perfect….

The next day we made it to Yellowstone.

Linda

P.S.  Terry lost the first two games…then after that they tied!  🙂

I Love Where We Live

Big sky’s, blue mountains, the sun, the moon, the rain, growing things….what more could a person ask for?
