Although, we had a sprinkling of rain yesterday. We are still extremely dry.
So dry that wind rushing throughout the farm creates terrible dust, which settles on everything and everyone until it settles down (again).
Yesterday morning, early, lightning and thunder rushed upon us from the Uncompahgre Plateau, thunder rolled, long and loud, and lightning forked across the heavens.
It was a fast-moving storm. Crackling and jabbing toward the earth in flashes of silver and gold. Leaving behind in it wakes a fire burning on the edge of Fruitland Mesa, directly in line with Crawford, Colorado
Colorado (as many parts of the west) is just tooooo dry!
But last evening…. as more rain showers played along the edges of the farm— We saw a rainbow!
A huge joy to me!

Terry and I had to go to Grand Junction last week to purchase a few items. While at Home Depot
A man was just coming back from taking his two Macaw Parrots for their daily walk, through the building then a wee trip around the parking lot
It was so much fun meeting these very tame birds. Neither one is tethered to the walker, they sit calmly talking loudly to everyone about everything they see. Then after the wee walk about…they get to go to Sonic and have a CORN DOG!!! Oh! MY! the delight in their little voices when their Dad asked them if they were ready to go to SONIC!!
I enjoyed getting to meet these birds and their human.
Then on the ride home…among the hills and canyons a very faint rainbow appeared.
A day as perfect as anyone could dream!

We are dry here. Of course it rained and rained all through the third cutting hay 🙂 pretty much how haying season goes. 🙂
But the night air is very mild even cold before the sun comes up in the morning.
Still the plants grow gently larger and larger…waiting for that time called harvest
It won’t be long now until pinto bean harvest….the pods are starting to stripe and the leaves to turn yellow
Terry is watching the crops daily now…checking how hard the corn kernels are becoming, where the pods are on the pinto beans…we still work several times a day with the mountain water irrigating the crops,
The other day a summer storm blew in…not that kind that drops water on the ground, but the kind which drops water toward the earth, BUT dries up BEFORE it hits the ground
Leaving us a Rainbow, in the small silence the phantom raindrops made in the air.
My eyes and my heart reached up from the shadows on the ground — Rainbows always say to me—Good things are sure to come!

My world is small. I realize that. But it’s a small I relish and enjoy.
For instance:
I feel great excitement, and joy, in the contented knowledge the pinto beans are up..sprouting forth into warm (HOT) yellow light
And every field of corn is up!
The green of all leaves coloring the world in brilliance!
We set water early, early morning and late in the evening.
Several times of day we are checking the water, making sure the tubes are still running, the rows getting wet, the plants receiving moisture!
Overhead the sun shimmers, baking every particle of everything…scattering— instantly— gobbling up every morsel of moisture into the air.
The irrigation water pushes up little puffs of dust, as the earth feels the exaltation, of the flowing streams; the gurgles of a song of hope!
Then THERE…in the chaos of rushing water I saw a rainbow!
That little gift bringing an sensation of joy!

The farmer, in the field to our side, is getting his bean ground ready. It is so very dry our whole farm filled up with dust and dust and more dust.
Still—even in the smothering dust I could feel a storm coming in. The air shifted from solid and stale to racing clouds.
Black bottomed clouds holding the promise of moisture!
Still the dirt hung thick and heavy, as the sun started to submerge itself, with the western skyline.
The wind flung particles of dirt into cracks and crevices in a very obtrusive manner, filling my hair and ears—not to mention what it did to the house.
Suddenly a massive roll of thunder followed quickly by a immense flash of light and rain filled the sky.
It didn’t last long…that rain. Moving itself quickly on toward town and other parts of our area. But long enough to clear the air…leaving behind fresh and cool dirt free air.
Plus…a smidge of a rainbow, just as the sun sunk behind a bank of clouds.
A sign of hope!
Every day we are seeing improvement! I am sure…more than sure…I am positive it is because of your prayers, good thoughts and wishes.
Of which Terry and I are eternally grateful!

After days and days of thick gloomy clouds the sky parted and the sun shone through giving us a December
Rainbow! And it was just at the end of the alfalfa field shining on the road sign!
What a wonderful, unusual, and perfect gift for this time of year!

We spent Sunday afternoon with our daughter and son-in-law in Grand Junction, Colorado. They wanted to take ‘Dad’ out for dinner for his birthday.
It was lovely. Being with family is always special to Terry and I.
When we got home we took the four-wheelers out to check on the corn–if the corn is sprouted little roots it’s time to harrow off the dirt so the seed doesn’t have a hard time coming through our soil. (It was time—today Terry is harrowing the first field)
Twilight was coming on when we headed out…and so was another storm. (Looking east toward Paonia)
When either Terry or I, or just one of us is in need of peace we feel it out here. (Looking toward Gunnison, Colorado) The wind was sharp and a little brisk. A chill from a passing clouds cooling us even further.
The farm and the surrounding area were filtered by the gathering clouds, dappling us in shadows.
(Possible rain or snow showers on Grand Mesa.)
Then coming home we saw it
The brilliance of sun, and sky; a gift from the heavens!
