Another Sign of Spring—Monday, February 22, 2016

On Thursday, of last week we had wind, clouds and scattered showers.  The wind was a mess…it picked up the garbage cans and flung them here and there and everywhere.

It knocked off some tiles on the chicken roof, which I spent Saturday fixing. The wind was a mess!  Well, actually the wind created a mess. (It also dried out more of the mud! 🙂 So it was also a blessing! )

BUT….

along with the wind came rain showers

Sorta-rainbowAnd with the showers a very, very, faint rainbow.  Terry said it is so light it really doesn’t count…But I counted it!  I saw it! It was bright enough my eye could see it and the camera caught it’s faint colors.  So that counts!

A Rainbow!  We are moving forward!

YAY!

A Rainbow from Kate—Sunday, November 15, 2015

Kate Chiconi for Mackay, North Queensland sent to me a lovely rainbow taken over her home.

From-KateIn her email to me, with this lovely gift of a rainbow, she said:

“Genesis 9:13

“God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud…

We have seen a great cloud over the earth in past days. Today we have a sign that we aren’t forgotten.

I leave you with the best words I know on the subject.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend’s
Or of thine own were:
Any man’s death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

John Donne

Vive La France!”

Please slip on over to her blog to read the whole beautiful post she did on this very sad subject.

Much love,

Linda

The Glow of an Extra-Ordinary Day—Sunday, August 30, 2015

Evening-1Everybody has sadness, and people or things who bring regret or pain.

Everyone has those times that feel like the Four Horses of the Apocalypse have descended upon their life.

BIG

Eventually peace is restored, the angry people fade away or disappear, the ugliness of the situation is throw out — like a pail of dirty water

More-Clouds(Clouds reflecting in the irrigation water)

ingThere are many situations human beings can’t fixed.

Rainbow-1Then we see the answer.

Rainbow-4We are not without hope, and peace, or comfort.

Ever.

The Magic Light of Mingled Dusk and Sun Fire—Wednesday, August 12, 2015

;Last night we loaded Boomer into the back of the pick-up and headed toward Olathe, Colorado.

The evening ride was a brief enchantment from the daily activities.

124

We were driving toward a storm; rain chutes reflecting the setting suns’ rays.

Then the dark clouds washed over us, pushed along by strong winds

121 As we drew closer to our destination HOPE sprung across the heavens in brilliant 122shades of a massive rainbow.

125

Stopping we put Boomer in the front with us, for giant drops of rains were starting to descend.  (He was one very glad dog to be sitting on my lap, nose stuck out the rolled down window.  A huge doggie smile upon his face.)

The drive home was in the middle of the storm, lightening, thunder and at times rain coming so hard and fast we couldn’t see the road. SunlightThis morning the air is moving gently over us, hinting at the first cool touches of late September.

I’m so Excited to Share with You—Thursday, May 14, 2015

I got my header photo over-night…setting there in my email waiting for me to sit down and open my computer.  Elaine, from the Black Forest in Colorado, had a stunning rainbow appear close to her home.  I just had to share it with each of you!

Colorado-Columbine

My Colorado Columbine are blooming.  Although, it is illegal to remove plants from the wild, Colorado Columbine are readily available at the nurseries.  This plant is about two years old and very colorful. I always think of my wonderful maternal Grandfather (he lived just down the orchard from us) who had two flowers that he adored, the Colorado Columbine and a Yellow Rose bush.  You see he grew up in Texas...the Yellow Rose of Texas (a traditional  American Folk song) and would sing it to us.

And NOW……TA DA!

Rufus-1My hummingbird photo!!!!

A Rufus hummingbird, by the way!

YAY!  I think I did it!  A neat Hummingbird photo!

Corn

And JOY of ALL JOYS the Corn IS UP!

StormJust in time, because another winter-like storm is due in here tonight. The clouds swarmed in from the west, bringing with them a colder day.  The weather people say snow and heavy rain possible —again.  Terry is out leveling the pinto bean field even as I sit here writing to you.  Time is a huge factor.  If he can get the field leveled and the big ditches made for that field, before the weather settles in he will be happy camper.

Anyway, yesterday was just the happiest of days; I just had to share with you!

It’s Wet Here-Again-Sunday, April 26, 2015

It’s wet here. Again! Very wet.  We are still setting and changing water.  It doesn’t stop, just because of weather.  I’m tired of wet. I miss the sun.

Although, all this wet has brought on the green, so I guess I had just better thank my lucky stars.  Water is good.

Last evening, though, in-between down-pours, as we were making the last set of the day

Rainbow-1 The clouds parted, allowing the sun to burst forth,

Rainbow-2Bringing with it the most beautiful of natural wonders

Rainbow-3There we were out on the ditch bank, getting soaked and cold, when the sun broke through the clouds and  gave us rainbows.

Now, really, who could ask for more?  Not I.

The first rainbows of the year and I was where I could see them!

YAY!

I’m Late, I’m Late—Tuesday, December 9, 2014

I’m late today! Very late!

But we have been up and at’em since 5 this morning.  What a joggle of a day.

The brakes went out of the LOADED grain truck —this time the booster.  This time the truck stays parked until the brakes can be fixed.  (This is exactly WHY most people do NOT want to deal with old equipment…but I digress!)

Thankfully the truck was in the yard and parked under the car port…blessings abound!

We covered the completely full truck up with a tarp and tied it down.  Then while Terry ran over to a neighbor who works on semi’s, to see if there were parts he could get to fix the truck, I got the house straightened up ready so we could go get the other truck.  Hines said Terry could use one of their trucks to finish up our fields (two to go—well, really 1 3/4 to go).  If everything holds together we hope to be done by next week…fingers and toes crossed and magic thoughts and prayers…even a knock or two on wood!!!  🙂 🙂 🙂

Rainbow for me

I have two beautiful photos from a long-time blog friend, OneFly...the first is a stunning rainbow he sent awhile back

This-was-on-the-way-to-San-and the second is a photo when he was going to San Jose…he loves the tropical places and travels somewhere warm and lush every winter. (This was taken in 2012—I thought it was fun to share it today, being how it is winter and brown and drab here 🙂 )

DragonflyThis winter he is in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he shot this stunning photo of a very magenta dragonfly!  How Cool is THAT! 🙂

I thank each and every one of you who send me photos to share!  What a joyful gift these photos are, brightening my life and those who read my blog!

Linda

A Gift to Me From Kate, and Now to You —- Wednesday, June 18, 2014

back-forty.jpgHere is the point of the Cactus Hill…a rocky point on the south west side of our farm.  This is the Back Forty—Those two trees, a dark green and a grey green make the boundary of the south side of that part of the Farm.  That dark wasteland is the west side.  When we had cows they loved this part of the farm second best…first best was the Upper End.

Catus-2The cactus are just starting to bloom up there…a peach colored,

Catcus-8And hot pink right now.  The yellow ones are a bit later.

GrassThe grass at the Upper End –also at the south end of the farm—is thick and full…

More-GrassSure makes me miss cows.–That’s Terry coming back from checking on a drain ditch.

Anyway after a night of horrendous  55 m.p.h. winds we woke to a beautiful morning and only 20 m.p.h. wind.

I’ll take it!  It’s cooler but nice!

Then when I came upstairs to read my emails I found I had a gift from Kate Chiconi

Double-rainbow,-Dorrigo,-NSA double rainbow all the way from, Dorrigo, New South Wales, Australia!

It’s so nice to have a rainbow after wild storms!  Even if this one didn’t appear out my window, it did appear as a gift to me from a friend way around the world!

Thank you, Kate, for giving us this wonderful sign of Friendship and Hope and Beauty!

Your farm friend,

Linda

P.S.  Don’t forget, if you have something you would like to share—story, photo, rainbows, animals,  or birds.  I’m always interested in what you send me.  If you don’t mind I would love to share them with all of those who have subscribed to my blog.

Nature’s Bling —- April 30, 2014

The wind is still with us…a very sharp wind, blowing across the snow freshly dumped in the mountains all around us.

We are COLD.  In my yard the asparagus has froze, the lilac buds have turned brown and dried on the stem, the fruit trees crisp white blooms are now a brown yucky color.  Out on the farm everything is still okay…the alfalfa is  cold but green, growing slowly, but still alive.  We are still irrigating, nothing has been planted so we have no worries in that department.

Rain-chutRain and snow occurred off and on all day

Rain-shootThe wind pushing storm clouds from the west toward us, then onto the east

Sun-in-the-RoubioucAt different points the sun shined into the Roubidoux Canyon allowing us to see the geological formations just four miles from our farm.

Feast6

The tri-colored Red-winged Blackbirds helped us while we changed water, searching for yummy things in the soil.

Waiting-in-the-setA hawk looking for super also, watched us while we changed the water, swaying gently in the wind on his tiny branch in the tree.  The tree is still waiting for warmth so it can leaf out…waiting, just like us.

Rain-bow-and-pipeSuddenly a rainbow lite up an culvert a neighbor has ready to insert across an arroyo on his land!

BlingWe worked on the water until dark, but even the dark offered Bling in the most spectacular of ways!

The Bling of Nature…really, who could ask for more?  Not I.  I am most comfortable here, on the land…really Terry and I try hard to one with the land and all that shares it with us!

Your farming friend,

Linda

Visual Gifts — April 28, 2014

Today our youngest daughter turns 37….it just seems like yesterday she was a tiny tot.

We are still very cold…I mean very cold!  Although, it’s sunny and bright (which helps) the wind is terrible and very cold.  It’s like being in January all over again.  If the weather people are right, by Sunday we will be in the 80s…I can handle that! 🙂

Rainbow-and-field

A rainbow did appear as the sun came out from behind the clouds!  I love seeing rainbows.

HillsideAnyway, while we were up at the upper end we saw another wonder of nature….

Shades-of-pink

Desert Evening Primroses were everywhere….the moisture and the weather must be just right for these to pop into bloom.  It’s been several years since we’ve seen them!

Although we are terribly cold…I’m now down to raiding my scrap heap for wood —(I refuse to open up the wood that is being seasoned for next winter) ….the earth and the skies have given us gifts untold!

Desert-Rose

Lucky us And you!

From a cold windy land a cherry Good Morning!

Linda
