Magnificent Glory — Monday, June 28, 2021

Our oldest daughter (and oldest child) was driving home from Grand Junction when the sun created an amazing arch.

That most ancient sign of hope

There was a perfect double rainbow, glittering among the cool raindrops, on the desert between Delta and Grand Junction.

A most welcoming, joyful sight!

And Then—Sunday, June 27, 2021

The wind and dirt arrived again

Making it hard to move around on the farm; littering the air and our mouths and noses and eyes

Along with the wind came RAIN Clouds

Lovely, soft, earth quenching, leaf cleaning, air freshening Exhilarating RAIN!

We’ve had a few days of off and on rain now!

It is indeed a beautiful, intoxicating, cheerful, enlivening THRILL!

In the Drone of Bees and Hum of BITING FLIES — Thursday, June 24, 2021

The days move forward

Moving from late spring now into

Early Summer.

It’s a busy time (this little Quail is taking a dust bath 🙂

Our little fox is now grown and a busy

Momma fox.  I haven’t seen the kits yet, but they are there I am sure.

While I have you here…what is this little bird?  It’s bigger than a Finch, and is pretty much all red?

Early Summer,

A marvelous time of the year!

We Finally Finished Up One Job —- Wednesday, June 23, 2021

While the heat baked and broiled outside

Terry and I finished making the rest of the MUCH NEEDED siphon tubes.  This is the oven where we bake the tubes, turning them into soft plastic

Terry takes them out (while still warm) and forms them in the perfect shape

Done!  We made around 50 or so, I lost count after a spell.

That evening we made several trips to the fields and added the new tubes in with the old ones, so we don’t have pack tubes from this area to the next!

YAY!

IT’S BACCCCCCCCCCCCK — Tuesday, June 22, 2021

Saturday we had clouds come in—–and a smattering of delightful rain.

Smoke in the sky—-still.

Then last evening,

as we rode out to change the irrigation water,  we rode in gigantic surging drifts

and volleying gusts

of a staggering force of the dirty wind.

At least it didn’t last long.  This morning it is gone.

Although, the sky is still pretty smokey.

Those Furry Little Friends Out on the Farm — Monday, June 21, 2021

I enjoy seeing the rabbits

Out and about on the farm.

They aren’t the easiest things

To see

Let alone photograph

But they ARE fun!

I have no idea what breed they are

I just know that, for me, they are a nice bit of

pleasure. Pleasant, for sure.

Lightning Fast!

I have to be speedy for they truly scurry here, and then away, in the quickness of a heartbeat.

A Marvelous Gift from Connie —-Sunday, June 20,2021

Connie from Minnesota sent me these homemade wasp nests. You stuff them with plastic bags then decoupage them.  After they are dry you hang them where wasps like to nest.

I needed to hurry and get them hung up because TLC Cai-Cai thought they were made for him. 🙂

No more invasive bugs at our house!

BLAST FURNACE — Thursday, June 17, 2021

These are beautiful flowers from Elaine, in the Black Forest, Colorado.  Thank you, Elaine.

The amazing, over-the-top heat has arrived, seeping into every aspect of every part of our lives

Bearing down into our souls, it’s so hot.

No matter the boiling temperatures…we still must step out onto the farm for our everyday work

The sunshine seems to shimmer across the land

And the shadows fall deep and cool under the brilliant stunning baking air.

Even though it is amazingly hot the land is still beautiful

And the lives who live with us on this terra firma keep us humble in a wonderful way.

By evening a hot, brusque wind sweeps down from the Uncompahgre Plateau, through the canyons; giving us a respite from the baking oven-like feeling the lack of moving air seems to provide.

No matter what…heat and bugs and all…I still like Summer best! 🙂

Exposed—that Amazing Rip in the Sky — Wednesday, June 16, 2021

I received an email from Pennsylvania about

This photo I called A Rip in the Sky.  Here is what he wrote:

“Hi, Linda.
Very interesting photo.

Just like the jet heading west, this was at a greater height than the clouds, and still getting full sunlight.
Do you ever notice military aircraft overhead?  With the bends in what might be a contrail if, from a military aircraft on maneuvers, that would be my only guess. But it is sooo wide!  B52 Stratofortress, maybe?  Hitting elevation to create contrail, then descending?
All speculation on my part.
Here is another interesting website. It shows all aircraft in the sky on an interactive map:
If you press the “U” button, it hides commercial and personal craft, showing only military aircraft. (But sometimes the military craft shut their beacon off to be “invisible”.)
If you click on an airplane, it shows you what the aircraft is, and its prior flight path, and other stats. Color designates elevation.
Also, when I first open it, it is always zoomed in over New York. So you have to zoom out and drag to get to where you want to view.
It is and can be kind of fun. If something buzzes over and you wonder what it was, this can oftentimes show you if you check it right away/soon thereafter.
Hope all is well!”
Now that knowledge alone is pretty interesting.  And something you can bookmark for your own information.
Then I got another email from Joe, just yesterday afternoon stating:

“Took this pic Friday evening on the way home from my daughter Lily’s softball game.
Hope all is well.”

WOW, one just like I saw!

How neat that is!

Don’t forget to LOOK UP, Everyone!  There is exciting and wondrous stuff in the air!

After the Smoke Cleared — Tuesday, June 15, 2021

The Veering wind sweep the smoke from the sky (it will be back, I’m sure)

I saw, in the muted and filtered light,—the moon and a star —probably a planet but I don’t know which one. 🙂

The light was soft and kind and beautiful.

From my world to your heart,
