In Search of Magic —- Sunday, August 25, 2019

Last year’s experimental crop, Hemp, expanded into a modern-day “Gold Rush” for our area.

Massive farms were purchased and planted to hemp.  Even people ripped up their yards and put in hemp.  Our air smells like skunk. 🙂

We’ve seen two large processing plants also come in.

Now, here is the rub…there are lots and lots of plants with potential to make thousands and thousands of dollars. That is all well and good.

BUT–

(From what we are understanding) To get your hemp processed you have to ‘make an application to have your product processed.  And THAT, My Friends, is causing a huge cry of anguish here.

The secret to all crops is to have a market. And, of course for the market to pay you well.

If you have a crop and no market—then all the hype is just a shadowy shape rippling on the wind of speculation.

I saw another sundog glowing in the silver clouds!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— A Report from Mindy Cat

Boomer said I could talk to you.  He said Fuzzy used to let him talk every other week, so he asked me if I would like to talk to you.

It took me a long time to decide.

Boomer asked me WAY back when Mom was still hauling in firewood to heat the house.

I told Boomer I had to think about it.

So, I did.

I thought, and thought, and thought, and thought.

You see I am basically a very shy cat.

I lived a long, long time in the wild. I had several litters of kittens.  It was when I was having my last litter, I met Mom.  I had traveled from a long way to the other house.

Mom was down there painting the inside and the outside of the house because Misty and Kelly and the grandchildren had moved.

That’s when Mom saw me and I saw Mom.  Mom started feeding me every day some yummy cat cereal.

Gradually, over time, I followed Mom to my house now.  I made friends with Dad first, then I let Mom pick me up.

And, well, the rest is history.

It’s a good life.  Although, I miss not having kittens to love.  I loved my kittens very much.

My job is to keep the house, the farmyard and the other buildings free of MICE!

What an amazing job!  Just perfect for me.

Then whenever I want….and I mean WHENEVER— I get to come into the house and sleep anyplace my little kitty heart wants to sleep.

AND I get yummy treats, hearty cat food, and MILK!  I never knew MILK until I came to live with Mom and Dad.

I LOVE MILK!

Anyway, I guess I can get over being shy and help out Boomer on Friday.

Hello everyone.  This is Mindy-Lou Min-Min Kit Cat Brown

Finally.

Whirling Through a Cluster of Clouds — Thursday, August 22, 2019

I’ve been seeing Sundogs lately

One on Sunday afternoon, late, at our friend’s house on the base of Grand Mesa

There in the tranquility of that vast immense sky, while we sang Happy 77th Birthday.

Then last evening, out on the land, as the irrigation water rippled and flowed

I saw another sundog dancing in the heavens dressing the sky in unusual splendor.

Harvest is coming soon everything says… the harvest is Fall.

Harvest beginning to dress the land.

A Tidy Ending —- Wednesday, August 21, 2019

(From Pinterest)

After lunch, yesterday, in the sun-drenched skies and with the heat making our skins shiny and bright

We loaded up a trailer full of metal to take to Montrose to Rec-Cla Metals to be recycled.

I know I’m sorta, kinda, on the weird side, but I love watching those massive machines; it’s so satisfying seeing them work.

The operators as quick and graceful as ballet dancers, filling the area with numerous hunks of metal— like a constellation falling, scattering on the earth—-

Only in a tidy ending. 🙂

Another Sign of Autumn—-Tuesday, August 20, 2019

(From Pinterest)

I watch the skies all the time now. (Well, actually, I watch the skies constantly)

Always, searching, looking, gathering clues

The Barn Swallows are starting to gather

We have around 50 or so, I can’t really keep count.  They are migrating in and gathering with the ones who have lived here all summer

They rest on the electric wires, in the bushes and the trees by our house in the nighttime.

The daylight hours are full of swoops and twirls as the Mosquitos and other flying bugs become supper.

It’s very nice for us.  We can sit outside into —way dark—without even a thought of a Mosquito bite.

Our Swallows still have a nest of baby birds which need to fledge.

But it won’t be long now. I sometimes wonder how those last little fledglings do it.  Out of the nest, off they go.  Way, way far away.

For a short time they practice, flying high with the other Swallows; everyone gathers, near and far…suspended on the wires.  (Sometimes they rest for a few days, only flying off to gather food for a full tummy)

Then they all lift wing as one —-and are gone. Fading away in the sky

I hope I am home when the ‘Great Lift Off’ occurs.  I’ve missed it the last two years.

Linda

More Signs of Fall Heading Our Way — Monday, August 19, 2019

(From Pinterest)

I honestly have a very simple life.

It is made up of very uncomplicated things

(Photo by our daughter, Shannon, with her phone)

Nature and the process of living within nature and (I know some will be surprised by this) working with nature.

For you honestly can not farm if you set out to ‘do it your way’ instead of the way nature wants it.

So, just for information only, here is another sign of the turning of summer into autumn…the corn birds.

They come in huge flocks eating the pollen and bugs from off the tassels of the corn.  This doesn’t hurt the corn, the ears are made and are now ripening.

(Photo from my archives)

The Crows and the Ravens are starting to return.  We hear them calling in the trees and see them as they fly, on great black wings, over the farmyard and crops.

The days are growing shorter; the sun setting by 8:00 p.m.

Still, the earth is warm, it hasn’t grown weary of summer (yet).  The days are bright, with the nights cooling down to nice sleeping temperature.

There is still time.

To enjoy the gift of summer!

From my heart to your world,

Linda

The God(s) Whisper to Us — Sunday, August 18, 2019

From Pinterest)

Time is flying by.  Everything is moving rapidly now.  Although, one wouldn’t know it, for the sun is still drenching the evening sky, in brilliant shades of color

The full moon’s silver light shivers the land, through filtering leaves on trees

But the disturbing look of Autumn is starting to appear

That signal which says: ‘Soon Summer will just be an echo’,

Prepare yourself.  Prepare.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Off on an Adventure Chapter Twelve

Chapter Twelve

We all made it home.

To MY home.

Momma Deer, King, Kit, and the raccoons. Oreo didn’t want to come, which, probably was a good thing.

(You understand…that nervous lifting of his tail, just might, MIGHT, make for some not pleasant adventures at our farmhouse.)

Mindy met us at the grain bins.  She was very surprised to see the ‘whole gang’ arrive.

She hissed and meowed and ran off the moment she saw Kit.

The Raccoons were delighted to find all the apricots

just lying around for the eating.

Momma and King settled right in on my Mom’s yard

munching along on fun new tastes.

Kit started hunting in Mindy hunting spots for mice,

so Mindy took off.  She said Kit can have the haystack area, she will take the gardens.

So, there you have it.

The end of my adventure at a very elderly age.

Home again, Home again.

THANK HEAVENS!

The Home of the God(s)—Your, Mine and Ours—Thursday, August 15, 2019

(From Pinterest)

It’s lovely right now.  A perfect time of year.

During the day the air warms up; after a very cool night.

The sky so lovely, ever so lovely, with huge clouds sailing, and heaped here and there.

But what is the most lovely of lovelies; making me catch my breath

Is the full moon rising; peaking through the tassels of the corn

On a sweet warm night

More beautiful by far than the wingspan of an angel.

Utterly Charming!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

In Need of a Tiny Miracle—-Wednesday, August 14, 2019

(From Pinterest)

We had a wee project to accomplish, which took us to Paonia, Colorado, after lunch yesterday.

The first thing that greeted us a few miles out of Delta, was CONSTRUCTION!

The lines went on and on…those stopped and the line we were in.

Courage was required.  As the shadows slanted and grew long.

But the Gods were with us, we only had to wait for five minutes, and only when we started back toward Delta.

What a nightmare that would be, if you had to travel to-and-fro for work!
