It Won’t Be Long Now — Monday, March 1, 2021

It won’t be long now

When the Sandhill Cranes will start to gather together in even larger flocks

Gathering to start their journeys back to the breeding grounds

The migrations will begin around March 10th

With around the week of March 20th where we will see that largest flocks

Winging overhead.

Then the large number of flocks will start to thin

So, by the first week in April,

They have left us.

To grace those who live close to their breeding grounds.

Until then

I will enjoy (and I hope you do also) their glorious selves streaming through the clouds,

And hanging about on the farm.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

No Matter What, It is still February —Tuesday, February 23, 2021

Even though the sky is a brilliant blue

This time of year doesn’t take long for thick clouds to blow in from the west

And a person can smell snow or frozen mix in the air.

We, also,  have Sandhill Cranes, instead of cows, gleaning the fields. 🙂

Sunlight, That Glorious Chariot of Jubilation — Wednesday, February 10, 2013

Cranes lifting up, flying high into that glorious sunlight of a winter sky

While snow clouds hover over Grand Mesa, lighthearted sunbeams light up our fence line

Then clouds, thick and heavy settle down, suddenly pushing through a ragged-edged cloud a burst of merry sunshine — with Mindy Cat on top of the woodpile

The evening sun bounced and stuttered between the buildings…seeping, carefully and sparkling onto the woodpile and the fence beyond.

Everything suspended in a Moment of Magic.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

From the Heart of the Fire, A Heart — Wednesday, February 3, 2021

We have been clearing the pasture of old and dead tree stumps and branches.

Where we saw a sundog in the early, early morning sky

Shared the farm with the masses and masses of Sandhill Cranes (YAY)

Quail, a large Jack Rabbit (of whom I didn’t get a photo), and mice.

But, one of the neat things the fire gave us

Was a Heart Rock.  So hot I had to lift it carefully, with the rake, and place it in a snowbank to cool down.

A heart from the fire!

How neat is that?!

Those Wonderful Marvelous Girls — Tuesday, February 2, 2021

Even in the middle of winter

There is always so much to do.

Just ask T’Ata and Glory B…

Scattering Sandhill Cranes is just ONE of those fun things to do. 🙂

The Sky, Appearing Different throughout the Day — Monday, February, 1, 2021

There, just over-head…

Those marvelous pieces of vapor

Breaking up the melancholy feel

Of a bleak winter’s day.

Clouds…just a joyous as a sky full of birds!

Earth, Sky, Snow, Sleet— Thursday, January 28, 2021

As the snow fell heavily on the farm

The Sandhill Cranes bunched together –trying to warm their soddened feathers.

I felt a tad sorry for them.

To Know the Value of the Gift — Tuesday, January 5, 2021

The Sandhill Cranes have been in our area for at least two months, but never here on our farm

But yesterday morning they CAME

Singing loudly to each other and to any ear that wishes to hear

They have come,  shimmering against the gold of last year’s corn stalks, singing tranquility into the air…sunshine streaming in the frigid air.

Joy in my heart!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Smell the Air —- Sunday, February 16, 2020

Beaglie and I go for a walk daily around the farm.

It’s nice to get out and about, to stretch one’s legs and to expand one’s lungs

Although, it is still chilly…coat wearing chilly

There is a feeling of March in the air.  A decided shift toward warmer and nicer weather

There are about 14 baby cows (calves) out on the land; more to come.

It’s trying to snow right now, so I suppose we will see more calves born. They like to come out in nasty weather for some reason. 😦

Still, there is a smell to air which says March is coming!

The Sky is still Frumpy with Winter —Wednesday, January 22, 2020

The birds of winter—-

Those delightful wandering large and small birds

Filling the air with their gossip and chatter

Shining brightly there in the sky

Filling our lawn with their busy searching and scratching

Then suddenly lifting up in a huge swoosh of wings

The tap-tap tapping on the bark of the very old Cottonwood tree fills the cold winter air

A pair of owls gently shake the branches of the same tree each evening as they call one to the other

A blackbird, of some sort, rests in the branches waiting for submissive sun take back the sky from clouds

The crows tell all the secrets of the land.

Thank Heavens for the winter birds.  They make my winter life ever so much better.
