About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. Today I blog about our farm, the everyday activities that keep the farm going. I also write about my thoughts and dreams and goals. On Friday’s I always write about TLC Cai-Cai. Our sweet kitty who helps keep the farm safe. And Boo Berry Betty, a breeder dog learning to be a Farm Dog! The lovely thing about blogging it opens the world up for all of us to reach out and meet people from many different cultures and different ways of life. You can find me every day (but Saturday) at https://coloradofarmlife.wordpress.com/ Your Friend on a Western Colorado Farm, Linda Brown

It’s Summertime—Sunday, July 14, 2019

It’s summertime…my most favorite time of the year

Long days full of work, but also free hours to do as one wants

Although, the days are full of heat (we are having upwards of 99* to 104* of heat ( 37. c to 40c)

I find the heat a joy.

Although, Terry would much prefer the deep dark days of winter

Not me!!! I want to experience each day of summer following the silk threads

Of sunshine showing gold upon the land

Off on an Adventure Chapter Seven

Chapter Seven

We all started toward the Alfalfa field, me wondering just what the deer thought I could eat when suddenly

the family of raccoons ran by us as fast as they could run.

Momma Deer and King and I jumped and skittered and scrabbled to hold our footing as they ran under our feet and silently melted into some brush.

“That was strange,” Momma deer mussed. “I wonder what is…….”

“RUN!” King bellowed

“RUN!”

We all looked up!

Than RAN!

In that Brilliant Lance of Light —- Wednesday, July 11, 2019

When that Golden Hour comes, not always, but when it does

It pushes light into every shadow, tosses dispair aside

Brightens the air, the ground; creating light so pure it collapses everything else.

Once there…the golden light creates its own shadows warping all living things into waves which ride the light.

The brilliant light that touches everything!

Then it’s gone.

Linda

Those Oddities of Everyday Living—Wednesday, July 10, 2019

The air was heavy a day or so back, bringing with it smoke.

Boomer and jumped on my four-wheeler and headed over to the equipment area to see what was happening….our new neighbors burning brush piles.

Fire always makes me nervous.

ALWAYS!

While in my garden, watering, and weeding I came across

A wee *nasty* house fly sunning its self

Which started me on a wee little journey to photograph a bug or two.

(Isn’t the colors of the wings amazing?)

In the nighttime unseen bugs look like streaks, showing up on a quickly snapped photo

Flying bugs are hard to snap

Unless one is lucky to stun a moth in the flash

Soon I got side-tracked by that wondrous slice of moon.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

They Dominate the Sky —- Tuesday, July 9, 2019

Those enormous whisps of vapor

Massive and glowing

Sometimes so low I feel like I could reach up and touch them

And sometimes there is a stray cloud or two sitting closely on the ground, which touches me (and you)

Even when the morning shadows stripe the earth,

The light of the early dawn beginning to glow causes the clouds to glimmer

Colors lighting the sky so vibrantly

I feel like the Angels are singing to the earth.

Riding the Sky in a Rush—Monday, July 8, 2019

Looking up

In that impossibly wondrous sky

Are those marvelous flying machines

Traveling from here to there and even beyond, into worlds not known

Part of the heavens, yet still of the earth.

From my world your heart,

Linda

A Thousand Sunsets—Sunday, July 7, 2019

In that Pulse of time

Called Evening

That Forever place where the air mists

And reaches into the sunrays

Or is it the other way round

The sunrays reach up and beyond the shadows

Tickling the clouds; washing them in the sunshine of color.

Sometimes sunsets only flick the clouds in pastels

the Air turning into lavenders and purples

Or a wind shifting drift of sherbert vapor.

Then, in a rare moment, those amazingly special sometimes, when the colors are like flames

Lighting up not only the air, and water, but also the earth and everything on it!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Off on an Adventure Chapter Six

Chapter Six

Just then a family of Raccoons scuttled out of the brush heading toward the cement ditch chattering and talking loudly.

“SHHHHHH!”  Momma deer stamped her foot.

“SHHHHH!” The rest of us said with her.

“What’s the problem?” Momma Raccoon stopped right in her tracks. “We are just heading to wash our food so we can eat.  It’s been a right nice evening; we found a whole pile of dried corn. We need to get to the ditch and soften it up and have us a right big supper.”

“Coyotes!” I whispered.  “Two big groups of Coyotes on the farm.”

“Calm down kids. Danger ahead” Momma Raccoon put her paw on each little head. “Coyotes….take care. Shhhhh.”  With that, she pushed her children on; past us onto the farm road and then right by the curve where the dirt ditch meets the cement ditch.

“Go ahead, Little ones eat up.  Keep one ear open and one eye on the brush, but eat up.  We have us a right nice supper.”

The deer and I watched the little family sitting happily in the mud, dipping their paws in the water, then putting the corn into their mouths.

“Supper is a very good thing,” King announced. “Let’s head on over to alfalfa field and get us a mouthful of something green.” He shook his head and walked off.

“You better come with us, Boomer. There is always safety in numbers.

To See When One isn’t Looking —- Wednesday, July 3, 2019

I like to stand outside and hear the wind speak

Although, I even like to stand outside on the ditch bank and look at the sun

Or stare at the sun when he isn’t looking at me

I enjoy the immensity of the air, the liquidness of the moisture turned into fluff

I like to see the earth when it green and so full of life

Or the joy of all living things as they move throughout the day

I always feel that the gift of more time

Here on the face of the earth—

Is such an amazing present.

Linda
