The Adventures of Mindy on Friday— It’s Just Mom and I Now, Friday, October 30, 2020

Mom and I have had a hard time adjusting to ‘Life without Boomer’.  It is terribly hard.

The day Boomer went over the rainbow bridge I stopped by his hospital bed and stared and stared at him.

Then I quickly ran over and sat by him for a tiny bit.

After that, I went outside and didn’t come back in for two days.

I just couldn’t.

I watched Mom and Dad bury Boomer by Sam-Sam, and Fuzzy, but I didn’t come over where they were putting Boomer’s shell.

Boomer wasn’t there.

The house is empty without Boomer.

The Yard is empty without Boomer.

So, I stay busy.

Finally, I decided I needed to come in and be with Mom.

Mom needs lots of purrs and kitty rubs now because…. well, you know why.

Then it stormed so I stayed inside. After all wet feet and wet fur are COLD.

It’s warming up some, now, so I help Mom—inside the house and out in the yard.

There are lots of things that must be done.

I look for

Find

And bring to Mom

MICE!

She always always gives me a big kitty pet and tells me what a good kitty I am.

After that, I eat the mouse!

It’s a win-win for Mom and ME!

See you next Friday!

The Adventures of Mindy on Friday, In the Quiet Light of Dawn, Friday, October 9, 2020

Boomer doesn’t go with Mom and me anymore.  He much rather be inside under the covers, resting

Although, he does come outside if the weather is warm.

So, now it is Mom and I…walking in the grey light of early morning.   The sky the color of grey and purple

Just Mom and I.  At first, I liked it when it was just Mom and me, but I must admit.  It feels a little lonely without that beaglie dog.

The Adventures of Mindy on Friday— Day by Day, Friday, October 2, 2020

Mom says I have to very careful, out there hunting mice, out there, close to the butler bins

Because now the Coyotes

are moving everywhere on the farm.

(See the quail getting away from the coyote?)

Mom has seen them multiple times

when she is has been out taking photos

So, I stay close

Well, sorta close

I go past the Grain bins

And down by the hay swather and combines

Sometimes Boomer goes with me

Not like he used to go, (I ran away from Boomer, he looked so sad when I did it.)

but he still goes

Just the thought of coyotes makes me jumpy

So, to please Mom,

and to keep close to my buddy, Boomer,

(and to make me feel safe)

I stay pretty much in the farmyard

I think there are enough mice here to keep me busy and full.

The Adventures of Mindy on Friday—Staying Inside, Friday, June 5, 2020

I HATE staying inside when the air is warm, the evenings nice and the weather just perfect for hunting and chasing and eating MICE!

So…if Mom picks me up and takes me inside, shows me a nice dish of cereal and milk; I turn up my nose and run as fast as I can to the back door.

There I meow LOUDLY until she lets me back outside.

I get lots of pets so I know I don’t want to make Mom and Dad mad, but staying inside when the weather is nice—-

Just does NOT work!

I have so much to do.

Mice to stalk

Mice to grab and kill

Mice to bring to Mom or Dad, while meowing loudly. (I want them to know I am doing a very good job)

Mice to eat.  Yummy. (Mom said I can’t show you a photo of me eating mice. She said it wasn’t appropriate for the internet.)

Mice to herk back up and leave for the flies. (Or Mom if she sees it. Mom always goes and gets a shovel and buries the herk…silly Mom.)

Then, with a very full tummy, to climb on the chair and sleep or go out to the tractor shed and sleep on Dad’s 630 John Deere.

BUT——-

When Oreo is out and about….I ALWAYS meow to come in and SLEEP WITH MOM!!!

The Adventures of Mindy on Friday— Freddy the Fox and Boomer, Friday, May,22, 2020

I was out hunting early this morning with Mom…well, Mom wasn’t hunting,

Mom was checking the end of the field to see what rows of water didn’t come through. Dad was out IN the field checking to see how wet everything was—

when FREDDY FOX RAN BY…AS FAST HAS HE COULD GO!

Then Freddy stopped…looked at me…I about passed out.

He barked…Fox barks are really different — go here to hear one — which scared me worse.

Then I listened, he was barking for Boomer.

“MEOWWWWWWWWWWWW!”  I screamed.  “Boomer isn’t outside, Boomer is sleeping in the kitchen on his big soft fluffy bed.”

“Get Boomer and have him come out…it’s time we had an adventure.” Freddy said to me.

“Not right now, Freddy.  Boomer has been sick and is resting.  Maybe when he feels better.” I replied.

VARRRROOOOOOOOOOOM

Freddy and I heard one of the four-wheelers startup.

Then we heard the other four-wheeler startup.

“GOTTA RUN! See Ya Around.” Freddy yelled as he took off toward the upper end.

That works for me I murmured, turning around

I flopped down and gave myself a very nice dust bath.

Then I jumped up and looked around.

I’m sure glad that fox is gone!

Off I went heading into the field to see about my breakfast!

The Adventures of Mindy on Friday— Helping Mom, Friday, May 8, 2020

Boomer and I have been helping Mom

We help her in front of the house. Boomer sniffs for smells I look for mice.

I even look for mice when I am NOT helping Mom. 😊

Last night Mom, Boomer, and I went for a small walk.  It was just the perfect amount for a very old, crippled beagle, but I (I) could have walked more!  Much more.

But Mom says not a long way, we have to think of Boomer and his sorta, kinda, healing knee.

So, we went a sorta short way;

Mom took photos of the cloud-covered moon,

Boomer and I waited patiently.

This morning Mom came looking for me.

I was hidden in plain sight. I sat there for a long time,  waiting for Mom to see me.

It took her forEVER, but finally, she did.

When Mom called me, I pretended I didn’t hear her.

That’s what cats do… pretend to not listen.

I even yawn, so she would know I wasn’t paying her any attention.

Then Mom turned around, just left me there.

WHAT!?!?!

WAIT UP, MOM!  I WANT BREAKFAST!

I jumped up and ran after Mom, even beating her in the house.

Yummy.

Breakfast time is the best.

The Adventures of Mindy on Friday— A Peak into My World, Friday, April 24, 2020

I got trapped in Mom’s flower bed

Well, Not Really

FOOLED YOU!

I also went for a walk with

Boomer and

Mom

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!

Yesterday, I chased off another cat.  Mom saw me.  She told me not to chase that kitty it was Aunt Shannon’s.  Then Mom called out “COOPER! COOPER! Come here! MINDY STOP!”

I didn’t. I chased Cooper all the way to the cross-over ditch!

I AM GOING TO BE THE ONLY CAT HERE!

Oh…just so you know…BOOMER CAN RUN AGAIN!

Well, not perfectly run, but he can HURRY UP WALK and Mom and I think

THAT IS A GOOD THING!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— Not Good, Friday, April 17, 2020

Dad came home telling Mom (and Mindy and me) that the very cold, freezing temperatures the last three nights, froze all the little onion plants the onion farmers had up.

Dad also said that the alfalfa is looking mighty sad…too much cold.

Not Good!

Then Mom told Dad that she noticed all the apricots froze and so did the buds of the Pear trees.

And her spring flowers.

Not Good!

It has been so cold at night Mindy and I think it must be February all over again. So, we stay inside all toasty and warm.

Even though we are inside the game camera gets photos of:

Yep.

The Creatures of the Night!

Not Good!

Mom and I still go for a walk at night

(not far, my knee is better, but not really well).  Mom says a short walk is good, a long walk

Not Good!

That works for me.  I still get all the news when I get up in the morning, go out after breakfast and CHECK things out.

THAT is GOOD!

The Adventures of Mindy on Friday—April 10, 2020

“Hey! Boomer! Hey! Whats’ya doing?”  I hollered at Boomer.

“Umm…Nothing!”  Boomer replied as he headed down into the dark side of the bridge.

“Come on I know you are up to something.”

“AAAAA, Not really”

“YES, YOU ARE! WHAT IS THAT IN YOUR MOUTH?”

“Ah, ummm, a wee snack…that’s all.”

“YUCK! You like the nasty’s stuff!”

“Slurp, chew, slobber.  Spoken by a cat who eats MICE!”

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—- April 3, 2020

I’ve been laid up some.

My horrible old injury came back…the one where I blew out my knee.

I can still get about, I just carry my left back leg.

My right back leg works just fine

I can go for short walks with Mom.  Or she will put me in that contraption you saw in the first two photos.

If I’m really careful I can kinda put some weight on it, but not for very long

Mom watches after me very gravely; taking my old age seriously and my bad knee into consideration IF I get to go with her.

Mom says it’s Her and Me (and Dad and Mindy) against the world.

That works for me!

I Love Mom
