Still Cold and Windy —- April 29, 2014

What a cold and windy day we had yesterday…and the day before….and again today!  I’m holding onto the hope that calmer weather is heading in by the weekend.  It sure needs too.

Some of the sweet corn has already been planted (no, we don’t raise sweet corn), but that that drew the early lottery already have the seed in the ground, just waiting for the weather to warm up before they put the water to the seed.  Sweet corn harvest is timed to come off every two weeks starting around the 4th of July and ending in late September.  Those that get the extremely early or the extremely late lottery always have a crap shoot going in…weather (the house) can be the winner in most cases.

Frozen-1

The wind blew gusts of 40 m.p.h most of the day until late in the night, slowing down some, but back up again this morning.  The weather people say to expect 35 m.p.h. gusts today.  Freeze warning are in effect until Wednesday at 10 a.m.   I’m pretty sure the fruit is all gone…I just don’t know how it could make it through all of this wind and extreme cold.

Hurry

This Boomer on the run…he didn’t come when called so he had to hurry in behind me.

Mom-and-FuzzyFuzz always waits for me.  He used to like to get out and chase the water, but not anymore.

Eyes

Back home the cats know just what it takes to make life good

Bliss

Now what more could you ask for? 🙂

Bling-4

Still all in all I thought the sunset was a perfect spot of Bling at the end of the day!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday—Cats

Hummmm-3

Fuzzy and

HUMMMMMM-9

I have been busy gathering the smells from around Mom’s old wood, woodpile.

Feral-3

Sam-Sammy-Sam has been also.  Actually he has be stalking the old woodpile area; pacing here and there with that ‘I’m going to find you’ look in his eye.

Outside-not-by-will

Monkey (a nine-year-old, almost ALWAYS a house cat) was hanging out with us, as we were helping Mom sort the woodpile—Monkey got extremely nervous and hid –just waiting for Mom to head to house so she could beat Mom there and peel inside quickly.

Hen-tThe Little Buff Hen, who does NOT spend the night in the chicken house anymore, (because Mom only has ONE chicken and the chicken house is too lonely for a 6-year-old hen) acted like there was really nothing to worry about.

She said she was hanging out with Mom so she will always be safe.  (You are safe, Little Hen, because Fuzzy and I are with you!)

Cluck, cluck, purr, yummy, lots of good bugs under the old wood, she cooed.

Since Fuzzy and I have been hanging out here lots; day and night, Mom got to wondering why, so she moved the night camera to find out—

Fearl-7

“Oh”, said Mom.  “I see we have more cats.”

Fearl-9

“Two more cats.  They must be wild/feral as I have never seen them in the daytime.” She mused.

“No wonder you have that look in your eye, Sammy-Sam.  You need to be careful, Kitty, you aren’t a young cat anymore, you turned 13 this January.”

Harrumph! Sam growled as he turned tail and stalked over to the ditch bank.  I can still hold my own!  Hummm…

The-cat-who-loves-grass

this grass is rather nice, I think I’ll just roll around here for a spell and scratch my back…those other cats only come at night, right now isn’t night.  Besides, I usually spend most of my nights in the house next to fireplace…she doesn’t need to be such a worrywart.

Fox-Feral-1

“Ahhh, I see the fox is a regular little guest here.  Good thing you are well protected at night little Buff Hen,” Mom said as she bent down a petted the little buff hen.

“You boys keep a sharp look out for the fox; they travel around day or night.  Which, reminds me,” pondered Mom “I’m surprised we even have feral cats with the fox and the coyotes around.”

Fluffy-Feral

“UGH!  Now this is one nasty cat, an ‘ol polecat, you need to stay far, far away from this cat all of you!  That means you also, Little Buff Hen!”

You don’t have to worry about that Mom…Fuzzy and I just watch that skunk move through the yard, that’s one cat we do not want to tangle with ever again!

I agree, yelled Fuzzy as he tried to whap his tiny little bobbed tail in the air.

Writing

“Well, it’s starting to get evening and I’m getting tired.  Let’s head back to the house and see what I can come up with for supper!  Come on, Little Buff Hen.  It’s your bedtime.”

Cats…I guess Mom knows now, Fuzzy…we have lots of cats!

Just as long as they don’t get near the house, Boomer, we don’t have to do anything about them!

That’s good, Fuzzy, real good!

Oh, look…Yummy canned dog food!

You are right, Boomer…I hate that dry as cardboard crunchy kibble stuff.  I’m glad Mom has moved over to this nicer to chew (swallow, slurp, gulp) food!

Night Everyone!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Through the House’s Yard

Just before first light, that sky that has almost has a feeling of light coming.  You know the sky, it’s still black and very dark, but your body knows the light is supposed to start showing up…well; I was sleeping away, just dead-to-the-world, really asleep when Fuzzy jumped up and headed outside.

Freddy-Fox-2

He jumped up so fast it woke me up!

Before I could get fully awake Monkey the Cat and Sammy the Cat ran past me growling, eyes big, heading toward the couch where they perched up on top, looking out the window, still growing.

I KNEW I was missing out; I jumped up and shot out the back door,

HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLL

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF

Yip,yip bark, bark….

Fuzzy and I were OFF!

Freddy-Fox-1

Mom wasn’t far behind me; I struck my baying pose and pointed toward the picket fence…

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

Then I looked at Mom, she was flying out the door, pulling on her work jacket just as fast as running in flip-flops would let her…………….BARKKKKKKKKKKKKKK,  HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW

Mom didn’t run after Fuzzy and I (we were heading out into the old corn field by the house as fast as our legs could go).  No, Mom was heading toward the poultry house!

Fox-on-the-road

Well….too late.

Fuzzy and I trotted back to Mom…she was standing at the window talking to Tom who was standing IN the window, on top of the nesting boxes, letting out shrill gobbles and flapping his wings onto the glass.

Whew!  We were all hard at work!

Mom reached down and gave Fuzzy and I lots of pets, told us we were very good guard dogs, opened the door and gave a very agitated Tommy some pets, told him he did a great job protecting the poultry house, then we all went back inside.

Before we went in I followed the trail all over the yard…something wild this way ran…I tried to tell Mom.  Mom does pretty well about understanding, but she really didn’t know what ran through the yard.

Freddy-Fox-3

Only we animals really know, and we don’t have real words to tell Mom.

Back inside I heard Mom tell Dad everyone is okay, she isn’t sure what went through, but whatever it was it was very exciting.  It also had everyone very upset.

“Well, could have been a fox or a couple of coyotes” replied Dad. “We’ll have to be on the look out to make sure they don’t come back.”

We will be on the same look-out, Fuzzy and I said. We are the GUARD DOGS!!!

(The photos are of a known fox (or foxes) that travel through.  No photo of whatever it was this time as it was actually in the yard of the house and by the back porch and car port.)

Boom-1

Boomer, a Good Dog

Oh, yes,

And

Fuzzy and good Dog

Oh………..yes………….and the two cats and Tom. Shish

I didn’t forget…I put them in.

I love the moon!  I love when the moon is full — spreading sliver and crystal and blue lights upon the land.

Rising-2

The dogs and I go for a walk, just to be showered in the lovely glow

Rising-1

We go just as it’s just coming up and we go again just before nine at night

December-moonI always try to wake-up sometime during the night, just to take the dogs and go walking down the lane…oh, sometime around one or so in the morning.  The dogs know the second I start putting on my Carhart we are going for a walk.

I don’t walk out into the fields late at night…too many coyotes and other critters I don’t want to meet, but in the evening we do.

PaoniaIn the evening we are surrounded in the glow of the winter sunset

Raggeds1With the air full of winter bird calls…the Canadian Geese and the Sandhill Cranes…later after mid-night the owls will hoo-hoo -hoo , we will hear a fox barking and the coyotes yipping as the moon light and the star light fills the shinning clear air.

We will walk along, the dogs sniffing out news and I watching stars fall from a million years ago.

The neighbor’s dog (who lives outside, no matter the temperatures) will hear us crunching along in the snow, or hear me calling to Boomer to not go off too far…he adds his warning bark to the other sounds.  His people, either don’t care nor never hear, I call to him…’It’s okay…it’s just us walking in the moonlight.  It’s okay…’  He stops.  Then calls out again…”GOOD NIGHT” I call back…’Sleep Well, little dog!  Sleep Well.”  Then the dogs and I go in to the warmth of the wood stove and snugly blankets.

December-moon

By five in the morning the moon has made it’s way to shine into the bedroom windows, lighting up Sammy the cat as he sleeps on the edge of the bed. Sam puts a paw over his eyes and keeps on sleeping.  Monkey jumps into the window to watch the world from the warmth and safety of the house.  I too watch the world as the moon slowly sinks and the day begins.

Good Morning everyone!

Your friend,

Linda

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — For One Day Only

Last week we had a huge ice storm, then Mom and Dad LEFT!!!

Mom talked to both of us and told us they were going on a little trip, they would be gone three days and two nights, but they WOULD BE BACK!!!

Then she petted us and gave us kisses on the nose and really nice back scratches and asked us to do a good job of taking care of everything while they were gone.

We gave Mom lots of kisses on her hand and arm and said we would.

Three

It was a LONG TIME UNTIL THEY GOT BACK!

Three days is FOREVER!!!!!

Yes, Shannon came up and took us for walks with the our dog cousins, and Misty and the little kids came over and checked on us….

BUT IT JUST WASN’T THE BEST…………..

We needed Mom and Dad!

Then they were here!  Yippee!  Boomer laid all over Dad’s feet and I laid right by Mom’s chair until bedtime, then we both slept in the bedroom with OUR PEOPLE!

While they were gone we had another ‘gully-washer’ so none of us could go out and start putting the farm to bed.

Picking-up-tubes

Gradually the days dried out and then on the warmest day ever (and I do mean HOT) Mom and Boomer and I and DAD all went out to gather in the siphon tubes

Going-to-bed-!

and the roll-out ditches and to pick up all the orange dams.  Then we got the metal dams and stored them also.

Corn-on-the

Dad checked the corn out…still to moist, maybe by Halloween the harvest will start.

Five

Boomer checked out all the raccoon poop and foot prints.

Fuzzy-hot

Me?

MY-FUZ

I stayed with Mom. I always stay right with Mom wherever she is ALWAYS!

That’s my job!

Taking care of Mom!

Hot

It sure was HOT!  Whew!  After all the cold we’ve been having to have a normal temperature day was rather, well…WARM!

Coming back home we all trouped into the house—first Mom, then Boomer and then me.

Watched-pot

Monkey at her normal spot

Then Dad came in and made lots of noise, he dropped something I don’t know what….and

Monkey and the clock

SCARED MONKEY!!!

Tee Hee …we all laughed out-loud!

She didn’t think it was funny!

HAHAHAHAH

BUT WE DID!!!

Two

Sure was a good day!

Fuzzy

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —Day Care

Fuzzy and I have started a Day Care. Well, really I have.  Not by choice! But by necessity! We had to figure out what to do with these little cousins that are spending ten days and ten nights with us!

What a job!

These are HOUSE DOGS!!!!

Bella-Boo

(This is Bella)

I guess from their size you can see why.

Zookie

(This is Zooker)

BabysittingFuzzy told Mom, “NO WAY! I’ll back up Boomer, if he gets in trouble, but other than that I just sit in my dog house or go on walks with all of you and watch what happens.”

But I love Mom, so I said I would.

Best-Friends-1

(Zooker had to have a belly band…the boy dog thing -you understand)

Day-careIt hasn’t been so bad—Zooker sleeps with me, when I’m in the house, and when they are outside Zookie goes wherever I go.

Come-on-Bella-FOXSo does Bells, BUT

Bella….now Bella is a whole other story…Bella has to be on a leash because…BECAUSE SHE RUNS OFF!

Boy can she run fast!!!

Took Mom 30 minutes to catch her one day….Bella would run a short ways, stop, wait for Mom to get there, run off really fast…Mom was NOT a happy camper when Bella finally LET Mom catch her.

So now Bella lives on a long rope when she is outside.

We go for lots and lots of walks, because Bella is so HIGH ENERGY…makes even me tired.  Bella seems to always be in motion.

When she crashes she likes to crash on Mom.

When Zooker crashes he likes to lay on Dad if he can’t lay on me.

Fuzzy,

C-Same

Sam the cat, and

Actually-outsideMonkey the cat, all think I’m messed up.  But, I love Mom and Dad and so I head up the Day Care for teeny bitty little house dogs! (While Fuzzy guards the place)

Mom is outside all the time now.  The rule is—if Mom is outside we ALL have to be outside, even MONKEY…tee hee.  (Who never wants to be outside.)

“Fresh air is good for you,” Mom says as she brings Monkey out the door with her.

Mom has also moved Fuzz and me outside at night.

Fox-on-the-road

Because of Freddy the Fox!

Bath

Freddy is getting way to close to the hen house.  Yes, the hens are locked up at night, and they have a top on their pen, but Foxes are very clever.

Hummm

Now Fuzzy and I have another job….keep the fox out of the yard!

On-patrol

We take this very seriously!  It’s a job Fuzzy says he likes and what he was born for…he says I can be a babysitter if I want, but HE is a GUARD Dog and is going to stay that way.

Searching

Mom says…4.5 more days to go….Bella and Zookie say:  “But we really like it HERE!”

I tell them they will be really happy to see their Dad again and do all the stuff they get to do with their Dad.

Zookie looks at me with tender love in his eyes and then sighs a great deal and tells me he WILL be glad when Dad gets home.

Bella?  Well, Bella says she will enjoy having Dad back, but being here has

BEEN A BLAST!!!

I guess I run and pretty good Day Care.

Baying

Boomer

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Canyon

Boom and I have been DYING to get to go somewhere, besides just here on the farm….you know—a mini-vacation.  By that I mean A RIDE IN THE BACK OF THE PICK-UP!

But it hasn’t been happening!

Yes, we’ve been to the upper end and to the back forty and over to bad burn and irrigating.

We have helped Mom in the yard and even road with Mom to deliver stuff to Uncle Evan’s (although we didn’t get to get out and see Zookie and Bella), but we have NOT got to go for a fun pick-up ride!

A pick-up ride to some place really cool with lots of new smells.

Mom did make her house-cat….Monkey…go outside and work with us in the yard a couple of days.

Boomer and Monkey like each other so they had fun until Monkey went back inside.

Sammy-Sam the outside cat doesn’t put up with Boomer and me very much so he’s no fun.

We just wanted to GO FOR A RIDE!!!!

We would beg and hop up (well, Boomer hopped up, I can’t hop anymore) and put on our happiest faces, even whapped the ground with our tails (well, Boomer whapped, I just wiggled mine).

Nothing was working!

Bummer!

Huff!

Sigh!

THEN IT HAPPENED!

Mom came out and asked if we wanted to go for a ride!

Yippppeeee!  Boy did We!

Dad and Mom gathered up a huge rope and a great big chain, put them in the back of the Dodge with us and headed down to the Canyon!

WEEEE!  DOWN TO THE CANYON!

Couldn’t be a better place!

When we got there we saw why—Aunt Shannon had gotten her truck stuck in the spring river run off.

Dad got her right out.  Just a quick hook-up and pull.

And we went back home.

Boomer and I loved every second of it.

I sure hope we get to go again soon.

Mom, said she hopes the next trip to the canyon is NOT for something like this!

Fuzzy
