About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. Today I blog about our farm, the everyday activities that keep the farm going. I also write about my thoughts and dreams and goals. On Friday’s I always write about TLC Cai-Cai. Our sweet kitty who helps keep the farm safe. And Boo Berry Betty, a breeder dog learning to be a Farm Dog! The lovely thing about blogging it opens the world up for all of us to reach out and meet people from many different cultures and different ways of life. A Year of Fruit, It Seems—-Thursday, May 16, 2019

We have apricots shadowing there on the branches of the apricot trees

Lots and lots of apricots.  My work now is to thin them, then to hope for more to drop in June (called the June drop) so the remaining apricots are big and lush.

There are so many I am not sure if I can get them thinned properly.  We have four trees, plus a slew of wild ones.  I will not do anything to the wild ones, the animals take care of those fruits.

In the Sour Cherry trees, we see masses of glittering little green globes

Which will ripen close to the 4th of July; cherry pie in the making! 🙂 Unless, of course, the Robins and other birds get them first. 🙂

We also have pears, apples, prunes, and wild plums all in need of thinning (and my hope that the June drop thins more)

This year is shaping up to be a brilliant fruit year!

I also am enjoying this new area of lawn…taking out that huge flower bed has reduced my weeding and watering time greatly!

I found a Heart!!!

Right there in there in the yard, just waiting for me!

O! The Joy!

I ran and got the camera, took a photo of the heart and the weeds just to show you!

Then I picked up the rock heart. Gave Thanks to the earth, the rock, and the Universe than brought it in to rest on my window ledge by the kitchen sink!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

In the Sigh of the Wind the Birds Sing —- Wednesday, May 15, 2019

The glitter of birds make our world so lovely and bright

Their joy and excitement of just being alive

The lift of their wings

Make me feel as if I am right there with them

Riding the wind

After the Cold and the Rain — Monday, May 13, 2019

We had rain.  Just a wee bit. 🙂

Gradually the rain left— rippling showers along the hillsides and valley’s

The rain chutes were bright and colorfully dazzling along the curve of the world

Still, the birds continued singing as the daily chores were accomplished

Taking myself and the camera out and about I decided to see how the apple trees were fairing

The blooms were marvelous, although the scent was rather watered down 🙂

Today the air is warm, I have the windows open and the yard is lush and green

How wonderful the world is after the rain!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— A Week of Days in My Life

Black Dog came over to play with me.  We had a great time.

Haley came by

Lots

But we never get to play

Mindy and I went for a long walk with Mom

up to the cross-over ditch

Where Mindy was SURE there was a pack rat living in the ditch

I sniffed out lots of news

So did Min-Min

The horses came to see what we were doing.  I have to be careful because the one in the back always wants to sniff my butt…which makes me RUN fast!

Then we all walked home  and sat in the sunshine

Then, after Mom put Mindy in the house,

Mom and I went for an evening walk to see if she could find a rainbow or a beautiful sunset.

Life is good!

The Song of Birds—-Wednesday, May 8, 2019

In the slowly brightening sky, I took my camera and went in search of birds

This silly little bird was determined to get food from the Hummingbird feeder although

I have one out there just for the Oriole’s

Boomer and I took off for the other side of the farm looking for birds

There on the grain head in the bright morning sunshine

Was a busy little Quail.

Heading home through the Back Forty, then onto the Upper End I had to marvel at the beauty of the San Juan mountain range—STILL covered in snow

Just about home, this giant bird thundered across the sky…

Now THAT is a huge sound of a bird! 🙂

Pastures —- Tuesday, May 7, 2019

The pastures are looking very nice this year.

Terry is creating new ones and refurbishing old ones

Yesterday, he planted a mix of grass and alfalfa seed in a whole new area

And covered a huge scar up at the Upper End with more rich grass seed.

Spring is holding steady full of the sound of humming bees and the smell of rich green lushness.

Terry is saying often now…how much he is enjoying putting into reality some of the dreams and plans he has had for the ‘rest of the farm’.  🙂

In the Quiet —- Monday, Mary 6, 2019

In the very quiet of the evening

Or in the breaking forth of the sun through the storm

The light seems to balance

In a rather bold but precarious way

Strengthening or waning always burning

Gifting us with more than a glimmer

Of just what I think, Heaven must look like

a wee hint of the splendor awaiting each of us beyond the veil.

From my world to your heart,

Linda
