Yesterday the Farm at Twilight—Wednesday, November 25, 2015

5The farm at twilight holds a deep hush….a sighing as the day slows down.

11A storm building over the Uncompahgre Plateau speaks of a snow storm.

10The air tells all to be still, hunker down, step lightly snow is coming.

17As for myself, while Boomer, Monkey the cat, and I take our evening walk…I give thanks —  for each day is gift.  No matter what happens on the morrow.

The weather people say we will have snow this evening and tomorrow.  If you are traveling, please take care no matter where you are —

As always your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Linda

Experimenting—Tuesday, November 24, 2015

After years and years of wanting a Pizzelle Iron I finally broke down and bought one.

Then it was time to make the sweet Italian cookies.  Searching the net I saw there were lots and lots of gluten-free recipes for these wonderful cookies. (I cook totally gluten-free, since Terry, our youngest daughter, and our oldest granddaughter all have Celiac’s Disease.)

To-FillFinally picking one I went for it.  After burning the first two cookies, I quickly got the hang of how they are supposed to look.

Then I tried making the cookies into a roll so I could fill them.

Pizzel-1Yummy.  Although, next time I’m just going to keep them flat and not roll and fill them.  A little sprinkle of shifted powdered sugar and they are good to go.

Love Over Fear–Guest Post—Thursday, November 19, 2015

I think Uncle Spike has said this the best of anything I’ve read. Thanks Uncle Spike! May you and yours remain safe!

The level of response generated by my previous post, Perspective & Humanity, was reassuring, pretty much supportive and mostly from my usual clan of faithful blogging correspondents. My follower numbers did drop a bit (15 or so I think), which was as to be expected, but let’s just say that I’m getting to the point where I know what matters to me.

Anyway, suffice it to say, I think you know where I’m coming from regarding these recent, or shall we say ongoing, atrocities at the hands of these numbnuts with the black flag and their mandatory brain cell count of <12. In actuality, they are probably not that thick at all; in fact they seem highly organised, so therefore I guess just plain evil, rather than stupidly misguided then.

Corn Report—Wednesday, November 18, 2015

a.jpgWell, here we sit, the corn is still standing, albeit growing shorter and shorter as the days go by.  The weather and the wind has started breaking the tops off the stalks, the moisture is keep the corn kernels wet, and the ground is muddy.

PIt’s not just us…it is everyone who has corn to shell and sell.

Still we wait. There isn’t anything else to do.

Corn harvest…not yet!

Two Years Ago in October—Tuesday, November 17, 2015

I have been reading Marianne’s Blog…Northview Diary ever since I started blogging many years ago.  I love reading about she and Ralph’s life in upstate New York, I’ve cried with them when they decided to sell out of the dairy business, and I’ve rejoiced at the birth and each mile stone of Sweet Little granddaughter!

But the one post that stays with me is this one:

Hold me in the Sunlight.

After all the winter storms we’ve been having I think it is a fitting post for this Tuesday.

Spare me from the hunter’s moon

And coyotes howling on the hill

I don’t like it in the dark,

I’m sure I never will.

The sun and color have my heart,

The rising tide of daybreak

Morning is my favorite hour

I can’t abide the evening.

Wrap me in robins,

Sing me some sparrows,

Charm me with blue jays outspoken.

I’ll sleep when the sun goes down

And thank you for daybreak each morning.

Marianne

After huge winds last night (and still going strong today) we finally have some sunlight. Although, it is rather cold outside…with the sun I can handle the cold.

With love and friendship,

Linda

A Rainbow from Kate—Sunday, November 15, 2015

Kate Chiconi for Mackay, North Queensland sent to me a lovely rainbow taken over her home.

From-KateIn her email to me, with this lovely gift of a rainbow, she said:

“Genesis 9:13

“God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud…

We have seen a great cloud over the earth in past days. Today we have a sign that we aren’t forgotten.

I leave you with the best words I know on the subject.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend’s
Or of thine own were:
Any man’s death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

John Donne

Vive La France!”

Please slip on over to her blog to read the whole beautiful post she did on this very sad subject.

Much love,

Linda

Not so Long Ago—Thursday, November 12, 2015

Ride-1Just before our first snow fall, to be exact.

In the thin, cold, but sunny air….

Ride-2The two of us were flying down the road, top off to the sky, flying close to the ground. The two of us in the same wind.

A Storm Rolled in Last Night—-Wednesday, November 11, 2015

We woke up to snow this morning!  Although it IS melting, it’s still snow.  Sure seems early this year.

Off-we-goTerry and I worked on the fire roads.  We have one that is a pain in the ….well, you know what.

Fire-road-1Yep, Terry is stuck…that’s a chain, whereby I’m pulling him out. This particular spot is a real struggle.  Twice a year we clear and clean and create making it safe to get to the rest of the farm.

Fire is a mighty and very scary thing.

Helping-MomBoomer worked right along side of us, up and down, back and forth…over and over again.

Right now the wind is blowing, sharp and cold; pushing the clouds toward the north and the east, mud is appearing where the snow once was.  Work on the fire roads has ended for the year.

Your friend on a very muddy western Colorado farm,

Linda

Guest Post from Kagedog in Cedaredge, Colorado—Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Kagedog sent me this beautiful photograph.  She graciously said I could share it with you.

Cedaredge

Here is what she wrote to me:  ” Doesn’t this kind of look like a Grant Wood painting?  :) I took it right before our first snowfall last week. You can see the snow that had already fallen on the Grand Mesa.

I just love it! Thank you, Kagedog!

Sometimes You Just Gotta—Sunday, November 8, 2015

Sometimes you wake up and go…”I’m tired of the same-o-same-o.  We need to do SOMETHING different!”

Friday was a day like that for Terry and I.

JI’ve been painting in our house for the last several weeks…bathroom, bedrooms, front and back porch; plus all the other things we have been getting done in preparation for the corn harvest. Loading up hay for hay customers, winterizing both yards and pumps and well, the list just goes on an on.

Terry looked at me and asked, “Well, what do you want to do?  Got any ideas?”

Yes I did!  I have been missing Bladen.  It was many weeks ago we saw him.  He didn’t come for Halloween, because of basketball games that weekend. (And, of course OTHER more interesting things 8th grade boys like to do.)

So we called Misty and asked if we could come up for Blade’s game with Baggs Wyoming.  It would be a fast trip as there were hay customers coming the first thing Saturday morning, but we wanted to see everyone for a couple of hours and watch Blade play.

She told us to come on up, but don’t tell the kids…just drive in an surprise them!

So we did!

Blade-2

Three hours up, a few hours there, then three hours back.  It was a nice break!  Even nicer to get to watch Blade play.

Blade-1Breaks…they are very good in the scheme of things…seeing family and grandkids…priceless!

Linda
