The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — ‘tis Done – if not it Should Be

Boomer and I are so DONE with all this rain! DONE, let me tell you!

1

The world is wet, wet, wet!  Although, not as wet around Estes Park and Boulder, but still very muddy here.

My feet are mud colored now, not white.  Mom keeps them wiped off, but it’s useless the second I go back outside  — and I LOVE outside!

BAM!

I have mud feet again!

Sigh!

5

The everyday, three times or more a day, changing of the water is done.

Over!

Stuck-1

Stopped!

Finished!

Waiting

Mom still takes us for a daily ride about…just to see what we can see.

Cat

Sam Cat says he’s done with the wet also…the mice are staying inside so everything is a tad boring for even him.

Rest

Cats’ sure sleep a lot don’t they? (Boomer and I don’t sleep, we just ‘rest our eyes’, cats snore.  Snort, chuckle, laugh!

Smells

Anyway, just to let you know Boomer and I are ready for some sunshine…Beautiful Sunshine.

The rain keeps everything so wet the smells are all gone!

Until then I’m hanging out in the dry spot of the whole outside…just because, you see, I love the outdoors.

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Swallows Left

Yesterday, while Mom was washing the windows and the screen for the Living Room and the Dining Room the Swallows left the corn field – flinging themselves off the top of the corn tassels and into to the air to land on the electric lines way above our heads.

They gathered in huge bunches.

Mom hurried in to get her camera.

Whew

But well ….. I barked and barked at them — and they flew away.

I was sad.

So was Mom.

Mom said she wasn’t mad at me, she was just sad because when the Swallows leave the Hummingbirds will be next. After they leave it will start to freeze and the snows will come with huge winds that rip your face off your head.

She gave Boomie and me a huge hug and went back to washing screens.

We’ve been working with Dad in the New Hay field for several days now.  The hay just wasn’t drying down.

Checking-the-hay

This is Dad checking the hay to see if it is dry enough to bale.

Six

Yellow Strips where the hay laid until it was dry enough.

Thankfully

Five

Altogether he has ten loads!!!   COOL!

He is hauling the last as I write this!

One of the raccoon’s ran through the yard last night….

Boomie took off after him, so today Boom says his knee is hurting rather more than usual.

Hop  Mom gave Boomer lots of pets and a dog aspirin in a SAUSAGE!!! (I got one also, but I didn’t tell Boomer!)

Well, the day is warming up nicely and I see a really nice hole that has my name on it.  Boomer is resting his leg, but I think I’ll rest my eyes!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Liv’n is Easy

Mom and Dad have been really busy almost to the point of … way too busy.  But life for Boom and I has been EASY!

There isn’t a thing about every day that we don’t like even the heat isn’t bad, we just lay in the shade or lay under the pick-up or go inside and lay around in the cooler air.

  • There are squirrels to chaseAnother-Squirrel
  • Little girls to followLittle-girl here and thereSmile
  • And hay to help withSecond-Cutting
  • where Boomer and I help Mom fork the ends on the hay Forking-Hay

Dad is waiting right now for the dew to start leaving so he can go bale.  Then Mom and Boomer and I (oh, yes I forgot—Bella-BooBella and

ZookieZooker are spending the week with us so they will also go help) will go up and help Dad load hay.

Forking-Ends

Yep, the everyday I sing to myself—It’s Summer time and the Liv’n is Easy.

Fuzzy

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Bean Field

We’ve been helping Mom cut corn in the pinto bean field.  She takes the cut corn stalks down to Misty’s to feed the goats…sometimes we go down on the four-wheeler with a load of corn, other times the corn is loaded in the back of the pick-up and hauled to the goats.

Out-for-a-ride

Once we get to the goats Hank Puff comes back with us.  Hank LOVES riding in the back of the truck!  So do Fuzzy and I.

We all just LOVE TO GO anywhere at any time!

The days have been really hot and muggy, but we still go out and help.

Puffy-clouds-1

Dad helps us also…we go out early in the morning for a few hours. Then we all go back out around 7 in the evening.  Fuzzy and I hang out and wait for them…Fuzzy stays in the shade by the four-wheeler and I wait by looking around and smelling what I can smell.

A couple of evenings the grand kids, their Dad and our Sister Misty came out and helped. Our other sister, Shannon did too.  Things went faster that way.   Hank came along to help me check out things.

Clouds-3

Last night Mom and Dad and Fuzzy and I were all out in the field—the clouds were nice and fluffy when we went out

Storm-2

Then a storm blew in

Storm-1

The folks talked about heading in, but there was always just one more row to finish

Storm-3

So we stayed

It was awesome!

Storms here and there all around us!

Then suddenly we saw it —-

Double-Rainbow

A beautiful rainbow

The-other-end

From one end of the field to the other end

Middle

Complete with the middle!

Stunning

Mom and Dad kept on working until almost dark then they went and changed the water

As we were coming in I realized

Clean-beans

THE PINTO BEAN FIELD WAS CLEAN!

No more corn!

Dad said, “It looks real nice, doesn’t it?”

Fuzzy and I barked yes and I whapped my tail on the ground.  Fuzzy tried to wags his but he only has a little stump.

WE DID IT!  Mom, told us “Thanks, boys!  Everyone did a good job.”

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Heat Shimmers

We made it to OFFICIAL summer!

And it is HOT!

Not just any hot, but HOT, HOT, HOT!

It was 107* in Grand Junction yesterday and 102* here.

The heat shimmers off the land – even the crops look wilted and tired.  On top of all that we have HOT—I MEAN HOT wind.

Although, when the wind stops no one can breathe….yesterday the wind stopped, that is how I know.  Why even the chickens are panting. (Have you ever saw a chicken pant?  The pant just like a dog…while their mouth is open their necks move instead of their tongues).

Fuzzy and I pant and pant and pant.  Mom and Dad irrigate and Fuzzy plays in the water.  Mom even picked me up and put me —! ME! — In the water.

I hate water.

But…gosh…it was well…NICE!

Fuzzy-and-Mom

Then we rode on the four-wheeler and dried off.

After that we had to go to town so Fuzzy and I begged and begged and begged so WE got to go with Mom and Dad.

The heat is rather wearing but getting to go for rides

Boom

PRICELESS!!!!

Not only is it HOT, it’s also DRY!!!

Thanks for stopping by …. This coming week is the 4th of July…(Fuzzy hates the fireworks) but we just might not have some here as there is a fire ban going on….Mom said we will have to call City Hall and find out.

Boom-1

Everyone have a nice and safe and fun holiday!

Tuesday, May 7, 2013 Fields I Love

I know this is rather daffy, but I have certain fields on our farm that I just, well, LOVE!  I enjoy the slope of the land, the color of the soil, how the water flows so rapidly without help…unlike the 1/2 mile field which is always lots and lots of work.

Dust-Devil

We are in one of those fields right now….complete with a dust devil.

FF3

It is middle’n in size, I call it the Middle Field.  (it’s a 1/2 mile also, but different) Terry doesn’t like it because it has lots of short rows, (hard for turning the tractor and equipment around in) places where there is gravel, (the water wants to sink instead of flow) and a shallow place he can never get level.

I don’t work with the land/soil like Terry…I work with Terry and the water.

Helping-Dad

Still there is just something about this field, maybe you can see it with me.  Part of the enjoyment is the water is always heading west.  Why that appeals I can’t tell you, but it does.

Picking-up-tubes

The other hay field has the same layout but not the same feel to it.

Ah, well, I can’t explain why I like this field so much, I just do.

Black-Canyon-1

The setting sun was just perfect to show up the Black Canyon of the Gunnison…I hope you can see the canyon.

Balck-Canyon

This was the route the early settlers took coming in to settle Delta…. they started in Gunnison and then drove their teams and wagons along the rim of the Black Canyon arriving in Peach Valley then across the waste land to the the fertile valley by the Gunnison River, now called Delta.  (Not as easy as it sounds, but that is for another day.)

I must be off, Dear Friends, as I need to make a run to the gas station for gas for the 530 John Deere…this little darling of a tractor doesn’t use diesel fuel.

Your Friend,

Linda

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Magic Thoughts for Riley, Please

Riley came to see us, so did Darby, they live in Grand Junction with our sister and her husband and step-children.

Riles

We really like Riley – well Boomer has trouble sharing Mom, but Mom said “Boomer you need to be nice Riley and Darby, are just here for a little visit.”

Gradually Boomer got used to all of them and went and played with Darby.

I’m writing this to ask for magic thoughts from all of you….we know how your Magic Thoughts work…every dog who has come to visit (and Mom put on the blog) received a forever home and we know…Boomer and I… that it was YOUR Magic thoughts that helped.

Our other dog families come and visit every day, Hank Puff — Houston, Rock, Belau, with Zooker and Bella coming over every so often, but not Riley and Darby.

It was nice seeing Riles again.  We go wayyyyyyyyyyy back.  6 years or so.  Riley LOVES the farm….Darby loves the WATER on the farm.

Riley-Brown-Rezak

But what I’m writing for is Riley is sick, bad sick,  I didn’t understand all the huge fancy words but I know they mean sick.  Riley told me his back legs are really sore and he can’t walk very well any more so we just sat around and talked about old times.  Riley is young 8 going on 9 in August.  I’m old 12 going 13 in June.  I’m in very good health, except for arthritis,  I would really like Riley to get well.

Would you help Please!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — It’s Warming Up

It’s warming UP!!!

Apricot-Tree-and-sunset

Boy, Fuzzy and I are sure enjoying it!

Hay-and-boomer

Lots of work going on….the water is about done in the alfalfa field — today is the last day.  Dad has water in FIVE PLACES!!!  Five different fields on the farm and we get to go to ALL of them all the time.

Helper

Today we go to just one field …. The pinto bean field!

Sometimes I go off and check things out – I like to check out all the animals that live on our place and see what news is out of there.

Sometimes I get behind, but I can

RUN-BEBOO

ALWAYS

Bebo

CATCH UP!!!!

Pear

The pears are blooming…part of the pears was frozen, but part not.

Sunset-and-pears

The ‘not’ part is blooming now…they sure smell good!

House

AHCHOO!  SNEEZE! SNEEZE!

Sometimes they make me sneeze – but just when the wind is right!

Fuz-Dude

Fuzz sticks RIGHT BY MOM all the time.  I try too….but…well, you understand.

Be-Boom

Anyway…I just wanted to say we are warming up.

It was so warm last night Fuzzy and I didn’t even go to the dog houses until after mid-night.  It was just way to hot in them to sleep.

Besides there are always lots of things to do at night, that we forget about when we sleep inside…

Like——-

Sorry————-GOTTA GO!

Hurry Fuzzy!!!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Earth Ditch

Fuzzy and I have been helping Mom and Dad.

Fuzz-and-Wind

You can tell it was really windy the last few days by looking at Fuzzy’s fur.

Wind

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh……really Fuzzy helps…I like to run around and see what I can see and sniff what I can sniff and eat dried out milk duds and well…

I (harrumph) I have LOTS TO DO!

We had snow and cold and wind for two days, in fact it is still cold!  Mom is having us sleep inside, although Fuzzy really doesn’t want too….BUT I DO!!!!!

Mom told Fuzzy when the nights warm back up we can go back out to our covered and snuggly warm dog houses, but until then she would prefer old arthritic dogs and thin-furred dogs to sleep inside.

SO WE GET TO SLEEP INSIDE!!!

YIPPEEE!

Oh.

Well, while Mom and Dad have been busy and Fuzzy has been in charge of the four-wheeler I’ve been checking things out.

Our-Hay

The hay is starting to look nice…Dad will mark it out and start water when he gets done with the corn ground (soon).

Trash-at-the-headgate

The trash has been horrible in the ditches and in the canals…

Here is the trash at the head gate

Trash-1

Dad cleaning out trash in one of the ditches

Piles-of-trash

And piles of trash already cleaned out along the canal

Wind does most of the trash and winter…winter knocks down lots and lots of weeds that the wind loves to carry here and there.

Dam-on-an-earth-ditch

Dad started water in the earth ditch.  We have more than one earth ditch, but this is the biggest and the longest and takes the most work

Set-tubes

Dad uses siphon tubes in the earth ditch…works just like siphoning gas out of a car tank….just saying.  Dip the tube in the water, hold the other end closed, pump several times, fling the tube into the just dug out little furrow and BAM!

Setting-tubes

Water!

Works every time…unless Mom is doing it and she has to work at it a bit longer than Dad.Earth-Ditch Just saying.

Killdear

I saw a killdeer…he wouldn’t look at me, but at least he stood still.  I was really good and didn’t chase it…I don’t chase things, not even rabbits.

People say I’m a weird Beagle, Mom says I’m perfect!

(SMILE 🙂 )

Range

The sun set last night flinging color all over the San Juan Mountain Range…pretty cool.

Well, Fuzzy and I are off to go check out the yard and bark HELLO over to Hank…I see he is outside his fence now. (Hank stays in the house most of the time with the little kids).

I want to find out what is happening with him!

See Ya!
