WE HAVE BEGUN!!! —- Wednesday, October 25, 2017

Terry had the corn checked for moisture and we were DRY!

Out to the field we went, joy mantling our cheeks

On Tuesday’s bright late morning in October (thankfully not January like a couple of years ago) smelling of dry corn stalks, and shelled corn we began filling the truck!

By 1:15 in the afternoon the first load was down to Elevators.  By 2:30 p.m. it was back in the field.

Now…hopefully there are no breakdowns, or some sort of crisis, or rain…rain would not be a good thing right; harvest is here!

Another Gift from Megan—Wednesday, August 24, 2016

Megan found another wonderful gift from nature…

Humming-Bird-Nes

Here is what she said:  “It must be my week to see wonderful things! I found a humming bird nest this morning at the farm. One baby just hatched and the rest of the eggs were so so tiny! Thought you would like to see.”

Tiny-humming-bird-chick

No problem! It was such a cool thing to see. Lifted all the kids up to see it including James who isn’t so little anymore lol
THANK YOU SO MUCH, Megan!  What a wonderful find!  Thank you for sharing with all of us!
Love,
Linda

Gratitude—Wednesday, July 1, 2015

It was 92* (33.33c) last night at 9:30.  But this morning it is only 86* at 9:30.

What a small joy cooling air is after too much heat.

Set-2As John Milton once said;  “Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing  us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.”

A few clouds, a small breeze, the song of the birds…a wee epiphany for this Wednesday.

Joy in the Small Things–Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December, 24, 2014

GiftThe elevator called and asked if Terry wanted to bring in all the rest of his corn…they were a tad short and could use it—the catch was it has to be there before December 31st.

“You bet’ya! And Thank YOU!”  Terry replied and headed out the door.

We loaded up the truck in a bright (YAY FOR SUNSHINE) brittle cold, with a freezing wind straight off the snowbanks.

But who is complaining?  This year’s crop all sold THIS year!

Thank you for your concern for Rick and his sister’s.  It will be a hard Christmas this year for them.  Yet, also a blessing—no longer is Rick in any pain.  The funeral will be Monday.

Everything always works out for the best, my Momma used to say.  And you know what? I do believe she is right!

Merry Christmas my friends!

Linda

Drenched, Wet, Beyond Wet, Wednesday, October 1, 2014

river.jpgWe are wet!

FloodVery wet!  And it’s still raining!

Glow-1The sunrise yesterday promised more wet later in the day.  (Red sunrise in the morning, sailor take warning)

Storm-Moving-in-3Although it did hold off most the day.  That evening we could see more storm clouds blowing our way.(Red sunset at night, sailors delight. ?)

Yep! Right about 6 in the morning we had rolling thunder and large cracks of lightening, then …

WetRain! In fact it’s raining as I write this.

BUT there is a wind with this very wet storm. The weather people are saying this storm will move out of here tonight with wind gusts up to 25 m.p.h.

Rabbit-Brush-2Then temperatures will dip to 25-35 degrees.  I do believe Summer will be officially over after these very wet storms get out of here.

The weather people are also saying we have several days of sunshine in the near future…I’ll take it.  I’m a sunshine kind of person!

DrainTerry dug little ditches so the water can run into the canal–which reminds me that the canal is clear to the brim…

river.jpgIt’s going to take a spell to get us dry again.  That is for sure!

Wednesday, December 25, 2013 Merry Christmas EVERYONE!!!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Storm-e

We had a small cold front move through yesterday…the clouds dropped little pebbles of sleet, but nothing else.

Storm-2

Christmas Eve was delightful last night….all the kids home and present–too much food, lots of dirty dishes and a surprise Christmas present from Terry to me!  I’ll show you tomorrow.  I have been wanting one; getting it was a complete and delightful surprise!

Storm-1

Around 11 everyone, except Kimi and Cliff (they are off to his Mom’s for the day), will arrive again for another round of eating and laughing and enjoying each other.  The little kids love playing games.  We will all participate in games perfect for a little 5 year old, then move up to games that our 9 year old enjoys, but Blade…Blade is good at adult games…pinochle, poker, and his favorite—Monopoly! (I hope I’m washing dishes during Monopoly time…I really don’t like that game :()

Tomorrow…I’m crashing.  There is much too this hosting of parties and making sure everything goes well.  I enjoy every minute! I also get tired.

Wishing each and everyone of you a Warm and Wonderful Christmas celebrated the way you most hold dear!

I love the moon!  I love when the moon is full — spreading sliver and crystal and blue lights upon the land.

Rising-2

The dogs and I go for a walk, just to be showered in the lovely glow

Rising-1

We go just as it’s just coming up and we go again just before nine at night

December-moonI always try to wake-up sometime during the night, just to take the dogs and go walking down the lane…oh, sometime around one or so in the morning.  The dogs know the second I start putting on my Carhart we are going for a walk.

I don’t walk out into the fields late at night…too many coyotes and other critters I don’t want to meet, but in the evening we do.

PaoniaIn the evening we are surrounded in the glow of the winter sunset

Raggeds1With the air full of winter bird calls…the Canadian Geese and the Sandhill Cranes…later after mid-night the owls will hoo-hoo -hoo , we will hear a fox barking and the coyotes yipping as the moon light and the star light fills the shinning clear air.

We will walk along, the dogs sniffing out news and I watching stars fall from a million years ago.

The neighbor’s dog (who lives outside, no matter the temperatures) will hear us crunching along in the snow, or hear me calling to Boomer to not go off too far…he adds his warning bark to the other sounds.  His people, either don’t care nor never hear, I call to him…’It’s okay…it’s just us walking in the moonlight.  It’s okay…’  He stops.  Then calls out again…”GOOD NIGHT” I call back…’Sleep Well, little dog!  Sleep Well.”  Then the dogs and I go in to the warmth of the wood stove and snugly blankets.

December-moon

By five in the morning the moon has made it’s way to shine into the bedroom windows, lighting up Sammy the cat as he sleeps on the edge of the bed. Sam puts a paw over his eyes and keeps on sleeping.  Monkey jumps into the window to watch the world from the warmth and safety of the house.  I too watch the world as the moon slowly sinks and the day begins.

Good Morning everyone!

Linda

Winter Skies

Winter-Sky-3

Filled with lavender and blue
Dreaming of a Summer Day
Winter-Sky2
The colors scream of silence
Yet the Winter birds fill the air
Calling to us from a far
Upon the frozen air
Winter-Sky-1The Northern Star sits closely now

Within the frosty sky
As moonlight filters through the air
And Sunlight sparkles snow
Winter-Sky-1
Winter Skies
Casting sliver shadows on the land
Peace
(A very poor attempt of poetry)
From the sleeping farm,
Linda

Snowman-2The snowman is about gone

The only spot of white left on the lawn

Snowman-1His stone eyes and wooden arms picked up and carried away.

Snowman-3Leaving only cherish thoughts of that other day!

Happy Wednesday!  I’m sure everyone is busy cooking and cleaning today.

I always find the wording of these old news stories very interesting.  A sort-of polite tongue-in-cheek bit of humor!

Today we should have the stove in place and the roof fixed.  We got the wood hauled yesterday and sorted.

Lewis G. McBroom, arrested at Hotchkiss on charges of theft a little more than a month ago, and being held for trail at the next term of district court in this county, tired of prison life in this city and opportunities for further service [sic] a that greater guard house in Canon City, and consequently concluded to work out his own freedom. He completed this delivery from the county jail at a little after noon hour on Sunday when people were going home from church and there is yet some wonder that he could drop from sight entirely undetected.

His plan of escape was to get under the jail floor through a trap door or loosened boards and then dig out two or three brick and one stone of the foundation on the court house side, thus making a hole which would allow his body to pass through.  He had evidently worked on this passage-way for some days and with a piece of steel bar broken from one of the cells some time ago by Marshall, the forger acquitted at the last term on his insanity plea.

Completing his avenue of escape, McBroom invited Chanes, the young Greek recently arrested for stealing and forging checks at Dominquez Canyon, and the only other prisoner in the jail at the time, to join him in his delivery, but the Greek declined. Half an hour later Chanes saw two young ladies passing the jail.  He hailed them and related the disappearance of McBroom.  He then said he wanted to see an officer and a note was written to Sheriff Sampson which was delivered as soon as that officer could be located, and a systematic search is now being made with the hope that McBroom can be located and returned to prison.
