About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. Today I blog about our farm, the everyday activities that keep the farm going. I also write about my thoughts and dreams and goals. On Friday’s I always write about TLC Cai-Cai. Our sweet kitty who helps keep the farm safe. And Boo Berry Betty, a breeder dog learning to be a Farm Dog! The lovely thing about blogging it opens the world up for all of us to reach out and meet people from many different cultures and different ways of life. You can find me every day (but Saturday) at https://coloradofarmlife.wordpress.com/ Your Friend on a Western Colorado Farm, Linda Brown

A Cold Wind Comes—Monday, October 9, 2017

The air is cold today!!!

Snow and rain and wind…insane wind.

The air is dim and miserable.  Snow frosts the air and chills the bones; roars along with the wind spitting through the air

The searching bitter wind has put a stop for all the farmers harvesting.  Winter has come.

I am most grateful that our pinto beans are harvested.  Most grateful.

Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Linda

The Finish of the Week, One of Marvels—Sunday, October 8, 2017

Like the wind rushing musically throughout the drying corn

The weather held, turning into bright October days, full of sunlight

Harvested, delivered and sold!  First paycheck of the year! (Besides the hay, that is)
YAY!

The Earth Absorbs the Water—-Thursday, October 5, 2017

We went out and checked the pinto beans

The pods need to be dry.. all the moisture gone, so when they go through the combine they won’t wad up and cause a HUGE mess.

It won’t be long now!!! Soon!

As my Daddy used to say: “if the creek don’t rise”, we are on our way!

{Which I think is a very old saying, even a quote from someone famous way-back-when.  It means: with good luck and no major problems everything will come together.)

Sunlight Poured through the Air—Wednesday, October 4, 3017

“Don’t believe in miracles—depend on them.”–Laurence J. Peter

It was warmer yesterday.  A lovely touch of sunlight, soft breezes and sunlit farm light

(that is a Gambols Quail coming toward me.)

We are still having tiny little hummingbirds visiting the feeder.

Sometimes I see only one, some days none at all…

Then just before the big cold rain I saw six.  My heart goes out to them, traveling so late in the year.  I hope they make it somewhere warm soon.

Then while out on a wee walk with Boomer and Mindy the cat…I found

A heart! A perfect sort of magic!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

A Chill Autumn Day—Tuesday, September 22, 2017

It’s been raining again…all through the night Sunday and most of the day Monday. It’s cold enough we had to start up the wood stove; sure felt nice!

We still have one more field of pinto beans to get out…but it must dry first!

The weather people are saying the sunshine is due to come back today…warmer weather tomorrow, then by Thursday we will experience NICE fall weather.

Maybe by then we will be able to get the ‘rest of the beans’ out!  🙂

All the way from that Magic Green Isle—Monday, October 2, 2017

Opening my email I saw this fun message–

” Crazy weather on the way home this eve. Was gobsmacked to turn into the estate and find a rainbow landing on our house!”

Linda Brown, my Rainbow Lady – isn’t this just beautiful?

Erynne Mac Grogan-Cassidy

What a cool rainbow!!!  Thank you so much, Erynne!

Thank you for letting me share it with all my readers!

Love,

Linda

Friday Day it Rained and Blew —- Sunday, October 1, 2017

Off and on all the day of Friday we had thick, soft, wet clouds in the sky,

Then an opening between storms would gift us with prisms of beauty, so wonderful they seemed to breathe in the autumn air

Then the storms would come again puddling on the earth leaving behind a leaden stillness,

and a sullen sky

Then once more in stunning splendor the sun would break forth and brighten the gloom

The parted clouds lighting the world.

Then that evening as the sunset

Built within the sunset

A sundog appeared!  I stood marveling as the amazing sky sang with echoes of humming songs in color for all to see.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

A Very Scary Situation—Thursday, September 28, 2017

After that awful announcement of the Equifax Data Breach

I thought maybe I had better get my once a year credit reports.

Looking through them I saw in April 11, 15, 27, 29 2017 someone tried to open an account with Capital One!

Talk about scared!!!

I called LifeLock and reported this (I have LifeLock) and then called Capitol One

To make for a very long story, with lots of long, long minutes waiting on the phone line!

I’m happy to announce everything is okay today!

Now if there are those of you who wish to take Equifax up on their new offer…

The waits are terribly long, enough so your phone will actually click you off.  And, you might not get through…I never did.

Anyway…moving forward,

Love,

Linda

Only from the Heart—Wednesday, September 27, 2017

“Only from the heart can you touch the sky”–Rumi

This is a song to summer, that time when music is all around us, bird songs, the growing of green things, butterfly wings, and hummingbirds humming in the crystal air

The deep excited feeling of lightness of walking on the earth with bare feet (and on the phone with a best friend 🙂 )

Gradually, over-time, the slow trickle of fall breaks into the movement of summer

Daily I give thanks for being able to follow this amazing dream

Of living, walking, working on the land, where the old gods still watch and wait.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Now There is Ease of Sleep—Tuesday, September 26, 2017

No longer does the repair of this tractor torment his mind and therefore his body

Finally the last necessary bolt was in place, the last hose hooked, the last screen cleaned….everything back to running order!

Worry, for this tractor, wisped away like a ghost on a windy day!
