About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. In a Cold so Cold Your Bones Hurt—Wednesday, January 27, 2016

Merri wrote me and explained that this:  Photo not mine but Paul Pluskwick’s from town he is a master at this catching the moment..he is amazing..and I am blessed to know him..Paul has shown many of us how to use our cameras……He uses light like no other….and I have the picture on my own but not this one.

I think he deserves the credit.  Paul  does not care who posts the pictures so it is fine to do that…… we all learn from his clarity and love of  Virginia Mn….so it is all our picture and it is ok to share it as you have just wanted to give you a collective view of it . Paul takes area photos  here…and I walk up there often as well and take my own\around for myself and my use too. Paul is a wonderful man and loves doing what he does and sharing with the world. He is a blessing…..Love Merri

So there you have it…Paul Pluskwick is the author of the photo.  Thank you, Plau!

We are so lucky, again, You and I!  Merri took a wee walk-about…(even though it was so cold your bones hurt).

Leaving her house to parts we will not know of, then heading back home through the park which is just across from her lovely little house; she noticed the stunning beauty of the setting sun streaming through the gazebo.

Merri's-ParkThinking I (and you) might enjoy this ethereal light she graciously sent it on to me.

For those of you who have asked, Merri does not have blog.  I wish she did. But lucky us, she allows me to post her photos on my blog for all of us to enjoy.

With much love, Merri…for sharing with us your world in Minnesota!

As always your friend,

Linda

Keep in the Sunlight—-Tuesday, January 26, 2016

Merri sent me another wonderful photo this one is of the river near her house in Minnesota.

Merri's-RiverIt reminds me of a saying by Benjamin Franklin:

“Do not anticipate trouble or worry about what may never happen.  Keep in the sunlight.”

A stunningly beautiful capture of the sun, on her steamy river; surrounded by snow and ice covered trees and bushes.

Thank you, Merri!

Your friend,

Linda

I See the Moon, the Moon Sees Me—Monday, January 25, 2016

As the sun faded, the shadows started growing long and dark under the mighty trees growing in the Black Forrest of Colorado.

Stepping outside to hear the hoot owls calling to one another high in the pine trees, my long time reader and friend, Elaine, watched as the night caused solid objects to loose their depth.  Gradually everything slowly brighten, with a sheen of silver, as the moon light  rose over the tops of the majestic pines—- lighting her world in the magic of the moon’s glow.

ElaineThankfully she took a photo and sent it to me, with permission, so I could share it with you.

How lucky we are.  Thank you, Elaine!

Your friend,

Linda

Love the Moon! Full Wolf Moon—Sunday, January 24, 2016

January-Wolf-Moon

Boomer and I still go for walks in the moonlight.  We both love it!

Back in the house, I put a couple of logs on the fire, then head back to bed.  Sammy, our old cat,  is trying to sleep in his spot on the bed, but the full moon lights up the whole room so much he has to cover his eyes.  🙂  It makes me smile to see him.

I leave the curtains open—I love the moon light.  The west side of the house has a soft radiance filling the rooms caused from the silver beams coming through the curtainless windows. Suffusing everything in silver light.

January is the time of the Full Wolf Moon. The full moon names date back to Native Americans.  January is the time of deep snows and very cold temperatures.  It is also a time of starvation, thus the howling of the wolves in search of food.

This moon is also the second full moon after the solstice.

The Full Wolf Moon came into its full and dramatic beauty last night.  It is most stunning!

As always your friend,

Linda

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Who Could Ask for More?

Dad, Mom and I are so excited!  The Sandhill Cranes have found our farm!

YAYThey sure are skittery birds….Mom and I have to SNEAK up on them, which means I can’t go running at break neck speed right into them or

Cranes-2

  1. Mom yells at me
  2. Dad Yells at me
  3. The Birds FLY away

Craines-3So I have to walk very carefully BY Mom so Mom can get photos of them.

Cranes

They sing a cool trilling sound…I sit out by the granary and listen and watch.  I got yelled at once by Mom, then once by Dad.  That was enough for me!

Hay-Field

So I watch them and Mom watches them…Dad says he just enjoys their songs.

Gifts–All the Way from Canada—January 20, 2016

The day after my birthday our U.S. Postal carrier drove into our farm yard; greeted with a barking beagle, and myself.  (I was outside gathering firewood for the wood stove when she drove in).

Amongst the bills and advertisers was a package too large for our rural mail box.

After giving me the mail, Boomer a dog cookie, she backed up her jeep and took off.  I finished loading up the wheel-barrow, stacked the mail and my ‘package’—oh, how neat.  I wonder just what it is?  Boomer and I headed into the house.

Once inside I saw the package had come all the way from Canada and my very talented ranching friend, Linda.

From-Linda-2There they were…my precious dogs…immortalized in water color, suitable for framing!

From-Linda-1Perfect!

If any of you would love to see the type of work she does (not counting all the farm and ranch work on their huge spread way up there in Canada) head on over here.  Linda is amazingly talented.

How very lucky I am!

With much love your friend,

Linda

Gift!—Snow!—Done!—Tuesday, January, 19, 2016

Before-DawnEarly, early the loaded truck would head for the Elevator..they open at 6 a.m.

HaulingThen back in time to head out to the field to start the combining.  Although, one never really knew when the load would be dumped—sometimes the wait could be three hours or more.  But by eleven a.m. Terry’s would be able to get into the fields and start loading up the truck.

Corn-Harvest-2015-aWe had clear skies most of the time

Corn-Harvest-2015-eThree loads a day, if we could dump and get away without a long wait.

So-farAt the worst only one load.

Corn-Harvest-2015-dBut always, always we were able to get one load at night, to sit under the shed.  We covered up the truck (just incase) then we would haul out just before first light.

Corn-Harvest-2015-cYesterday was the last day.  The last load!  The last dump!

The last of 2015 harvest is now—

Elevator-1at the Elevator!

YAY!

FinishedToday we woke up to snow.  But our fields are harvested.

Still I feel bad for those who are stuck.  They will have to wait for this snow to dry off the shucks and the leaves before they can start again.  Our neighbor told us his corn is still running 20%.  What a hard year for corn harvest.

I am most thankful for the ability to get our harvest in, what a wonderful gift!

Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Linda

A Week of Gifts—Sunday, January 17, 2016

Sun-1Driving home from the elevator the other morning I noticed the clouds were starting to thin…

Sun-3giving to me (and anyone who wanted to look) a view of a sky–a sky so vast it makes one dizzy to look up….then I saw it—

Sun-2A true look at the sun!  A perfect gift from the heavens!

At first I thought I was seeing the moon. Once home I looked up the moon phases on the calendar and I realized we were in a sliver of a moon phase so this truly was the sun!

What an amazing and joyful site…to actually see the sun without blinding myself!

Your friend,

Linda

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Stopped

Corn-Harvest-2015-bDad and Mom are stopped on harvesting the corn.

Stopped!

It snowing!

SNOWING!

But Dad says: “At least we got two fields done! Only one more field to go, we can handle this small wait.”

So we wait.

Smiles

That works for me…toasting my feet by the fire!

Boomer
