Teri McIntire Nothum Pretlow
Sent to me—
A very wonderful Birthday rainbow!
Thank you so much, Teri!
Love,
Linda
In a rather desperate search for a full moon photo—I kept waking-up off and on throughout two nights searching for a time the moon was not covered in clouds.
Waiting (but not very patiently) hoping for that single wonderful photo.
Gradually the clouds parted, the stars singing loudly in the long, long night
Moonbeams shattered the mist fill land and melted into a cold silver and blue light.
While Boomer checked things — I stood in the shadow moonbeams and ghostly clouds.

Erin sent to me (and to you) a wonderful January Rainbow from the Emerald Isle–
Both ends of a rainbow, taken from inside my work building today (hence the window-smut, sorry). I actually was made fun of for taking these pictures, until I told them they were for a friend who collected rainbows from all over the world. This one is Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo, Ireland.
No snow here, as you can see!
💚
What a joy! Thank you so much, Erin!
Love,
Linda
The clouds blew away and the sun came out! Our temperatures rose to 50*, and the animals and I went outside and danced in the sun’s rays!
The sun threw shadows and light on what drifts remained.
Then all too soon that beautiful golden orb slipped behind the Uncompahgre Plateau
But for a brief moment in time we were flooded with light!
From my world to your heart!

As I wrote yesterday—the morning was chill and cold. Icicles had grown long and pointed, a testament to the slight melt and continued bone chilling air we had been having.
The little birds were restless, as were the other animals…a shifting of here and there. I thought possibly it was a search for food…the need to fill up to prepare for a long journey or another onslaught of storms.
Then a melt occurred! Snow fell off the roof of the house with a loud bam, snow melted out of the tire wells, giving the car tires a much needed relief from packed snow, AND puddles arrived in the yard where once snow drifts lay.
I was able to get a few things done the snow drifts had stopped me from doing. It was a relief.
Then around 10:30 last night a huge ice storm roared in, with a voice like an archangel!
This morning we can hear the sound of tires slipping and sliding on the pavement a mile away, as drivers head to work, forgetting to go slow.
Just because the pavement looks dry….

We are socked in again. The sky is thick with clouds and the scent of snow is live in the air.
Sigh!
My mind, my heart and my soul misses the sun.
Even a tiny sliver of sunrise would be nice.
Or a quick peak at the sun as it vanishes into the night!
Any sunlight would be nice.
Until then…
I’ll know that the mountains are filling up with snow…snow means melt come spring, melt means full reservoirs and water for irrigation! YAY!

It’s cold here! So cold that your lungs feel frozen when you try to breathe.
There is a hush upon the land, a stillness that says…shhhh, step softly, go carefully, do not disturb the silence of the sleeping earth.
Still there is a wonderful beauty of the evening sky—the jagged pink line of snow covered mountains
As the setting sun brings to us the darkness…flowing in quietly all around us
The brilliance fading into gray.
Still the moon, that heart stopping brightly glowing moon, teases me with the thought I could grab a bare branch, of the highest tree, and swing like a trapeze artist.
If I could do so I would be able to catch myself on the hook of that growing moon. Then I would skip and jump from one glowing star to another— walking among the vault of heaven, which arches over our magnificent earth.

Around four this morning the dark and cloudy skies filled with wind full of snow.
The air was roiling with tiny flakes of frozen water. As the night lightened into day the wind has continued to blast the trees and pelt the buildings.
Min-Min cat met me at the back door telling me she wasn’t going to spend the day in the barn, the shop or the shed–Thank you very much! Today she is an inside cat!
The whole sky is shades of gray and white. I can hear the whistle of wind around the eves of the house and rustling the fire in the wood stove.
The ground is all white now…chilly and soft all at once. The air is sharp and full of shards, but the ground is starting to look like a Christmas card.

The season for farm sales has started. Sometimes this is not a good thing…farmer’s losing their farm, because of foreclosure, but other times it’s due to a farmer and his wife selling out and moving.
Yesterday’s farm sale was just that…the farmer and his wife were selling out to move to California — where all their kids live now. No one in the family wanted to move back and take over the farm, so the parents were going to move out to the Land of Milk and Honey and live with them.
The day was a good day for a sale….bright and sunny with intermittent clouds.
It was also a good day to haul the trash to county dump.
(These are old photos I forgot to take my camera with me)
Once in awhile there was a sharp, piercing little wind. Not bad, but enough to chill you if you didn’t wear proper clothes. (I had on socks and close-toed shoes 🙂 )
Late in the afternoon Terry came home with his new treasure
It didn’t take us long to get the diesel fuel tank out of the truck and sat up…to wait patiently for the new season of farming.
(It looks like we are farming one more year. 🙂 🙂 )

For some reason sleep seems to elude me.
Night can be so long. Sigh.
Sometimes I fancy I can feel the touch, of that feathered wing, of the Dark Angel flitting around searching for those ‘whose time has come.’
When that happens I get up and read or Boomer and I take a midnight walk.
Sometimes I think it would be nice to be a little child again…you know that time when you would feel all fretful and fussy inside, unable to relax. Then along would come Momma–holding our little child’s body against the warmth of her body. My Momma would hum as she held me; until rest came.
Terry and I have decided we need to move more…get outside…Do Something.
At different points in the day I put put on my large, large coat…it’s so big it swallows me whole, but I like it for hauling wood–it allows me to move around easily. I, also, don’t care it it gets torn.
Terry, Boomer and I take a walk.
We walk to different parts of the farm, make mental lists of the things we want to get done “come Spring” and then head back home. Feeling refreshed and glad of the momentum in the fresh air.
Then maybe…..just maybe…my mind will GO TO SLEEP at night!!!
