The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday—Working with Mom

Fuzz and I always work with Mom!

Always!!!

Sometimes Fuzzy doesn’t go, but I do!  I never let Mom go anywhere without me!

Even if it is just to follow her around as she pushes the wheelbarrow here and there and everywhere!

Welllll….sometimes I do let her walk around and around in the yard…it does get boring after awhile.

When Dad goes to his meetings at night,it’s just Mom and Fuzzy and I to do the irrigation. Mom puts us on the four-wheeler with her and gives us lots of pats.  “I’m going to be a long time, Fuzzy, so you really need to go with us.  I don’t want you getting tired of waiting for us and trying to walk out to find us.  You need to ride and you can hang out by the four-wheeler if you get tired.”

Then she lifts Fuzzy up and sits him down beside her….then up I go.  Then Mom is on and we are off!

Fuzzy-helps

While Mom moves the water from one spot to another spot Fuzzy and I check out the news….then when Mom drives over to the other field, Fuzzy rides and I really don’t know they have gone,

Beeg-on-the-run

because I’m somewhere far off—there are interesting things out there, you know.  Stuff much more interesting than watching water going down a row.

New-newsOn the last field Mom hollers and hollers for me…I pretend I can’t hear her!  I have to be careful because Mom WILL drive off and leave me!  When that happens I have to run all the way home!

Where-is-Boom

Anyway, this time, I came.  Which was a good thing, because Mom wanted to just go for a ride around the place…YIPPEE!!

Fox

We saw one of the fox that lives on our place!!!

Running-FoxHe was running by so fast he didn’t even stop and wave!!!!Wild-bunnyWe saw a wild bunny.  I got off and sniffed around where the bunny was, but I didn’t even chase the bunny.  Mom’s says I’m a really unusual Beagle, since Beagles were bred to hunt bunnies.

Every time she says that I just smile at her….I’m an environmentally friendly Beagle!!!

SwarmOn the way home we stopped by and saw Hank and the little family…and A BEE SWARM!!   They had a huge swarm in one of their trees!

Swarm-2Now How Cool is that?!?!?

Wire-and-rainbowMom also saw a far-away rainbow…she said that rainbows always make her happy.  Fuzzy and I really don’t see what the fuss is about…but, whatever works for Mom works for us!

h

By the time we got home it was getting dark.  But you know what?  Even the’ getting dark’ is pretty cool.

Working with Mom is good!

WetMore flash flooding is predicted for our part of Western Colorado.

Although, we are NOT getting what the Boulder, Colorado Springs, Longmont, and Greeley area are having. (They are in the Corridor of our State)  Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone in those flood damaged areas. 😦

slimeOur rain puddles are starting to grow slime

Moss

Even the trees are showing signs of moss

Wet-3

We are so wet it is hard to find a spot to walk without sinking up to your ankles.

Wet-2

An old-timer called this the ‘100-year rain’.

Storm

This morning we had some scattering of blue skies

Arriving

Just seeing the blue made me happy.

More

Last night there was also a break in the clouds

Black-Canyon

The sunlight was outstanding! It caught the rim of Black Canyon.  You can’t see the other mountains behind Black Canyon because the clouds have them covered.

Rainbow-5

The sunlight also produced a rainbow

Rainbow-corn

Rainbows always make me think of hope.

Corn-and-rainbow

According to the weather channel today is the last horrible day of torrential rain, then the slow moving storm will move on…which means it will move toward the east possibly hitting Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and/or parts of Texas, it just depends on the the jet stream.  I sure hope you don’t get the floods, but lots of really nice ground soaking rain. 🙂

Rain-5I hope your Sunday turns out well my friends,

Linda

Hummingbirds July 23, 2013

I’m going to post some photos of the huge amount of hummers we have now…at least 40 visit the feeders all day long.  Feeder-2 We have the Black-chinned Hummingbird,  the Broad-tailed Hummers, Ruby-Throat, Rufous so far!

Feeder-3

I’ve tried to get a photo of all of them at once, but it is proving futile.

Feeder1

But still I try

In-FlightI saw a rainbow …

Rainbow-2they always give me a good feeling of…well…

Rainbow-1I guess HOPE!

Off to water my plants before the heat sucks us down to nothing.  It’s supposed to be 101* today.

Linda

July 2, 2013

We hit 100* again yesterday…I looked at the long-rang forecast -the next 10 days shows no relief in site.

Heat-ride

Please send your thoughts and prayers to all of the grieving families who lost a firefighter in that horrible fire in Arizona…my heart goes out to everyone.

This morning we woke to scattered clouds…which means that the morning starts out a little cooler.

Up-you-go

Blade is trying to learn to ride Terry’s unicycle (Terry is multi-talented)…he was suitably astonished at how very difficult it is to balance yourself and GO FORWARD.  That is Kelly, Blade’s Daddy, helping Blade.

Another-snack

I still have the 6 hummers (three pair) at my feeders.  I had wondered if I would get more, but the territories seem to be set now.

Use-this-snack

The Orioles have their own feeders (now) so they are not interested in the hummer feeders.  Use-this-snackI haven’t been able to get anymore photos of them as they seem to be shyer than the hummers.

Almost-rainbow

Once more we had almost a rainbow as the storms played out in the heavens, nothing dropping to the earth since the air is so hot.

Have a good Tuesday everyone, I must get back outside before the heat sucks my energy flat!

Hugs,

Linda

June 30, 2013

Still in the blast furnace stage of heat — 105* yesterday.

8-in-the-morning

By 8 in the morning we were roasting, but I didn’t turn on the swamp cooler until 9:00 a.m.  I was trying to keep as much natural air in the house as possible.  After that we just couldn’t do it.

Smoke-from-Silver-Jack

There are lots of fires around us, one is up by the Silver Jack Reservoir near Cimaron.  I would say, maybe 30 miles from Montrose.  If memory serves me right it was lighting started.

Smoke

You are looking at all the smoke around us.

I wish the forestry service (or whoever makes the decisions) would cut down all the dead and dying trees. They really need to get rid off all the fuel for those fires.

When we went to Yellowstone last fall the forests there were clean…nothing dead or in a dying stage.  I saw new trees growing in lighting started fire burns, which was really nice to see.

It isn’t just humans that loose their homes or perish in these nasty fires animals do also and then many times they lose their lives.

When I was a child the lumber jacks would find a disease tree — go get the forest service ranger, show him the tree…it was marked…then the loggers could come back in and remove the tree, put it in a separate pile, tests were run on the tree to see why it was sick and what to do about it, then the tree was headed to the mill.

That doesn’t seem to be the case now.  It looks like the trees are allowed to die so the bug or disease finishes off the tree — jumps to another tree and proceeded to decimate all of the lovely old trees setting up perfect fuel for a fire.

Dead-trees

In talking to a ranger a while back and relating what I just said, he told me that the idea (I may get this a little off) is to let the forest take care of itself —so to speak.  If one species dies then the fire will clean the land so new can grow.  That maybe so, but watching these lovely old trees (here in Colorado it takes a long, long, long time for a tree to grow) die is really sad to me. (If any ranger or forest manager is reading this maybe you could leave us a comment so we can understand—understanding often helps.)

Anyway, the following is an older photo of where the Silver Jack Reservoir resides…beautiful country up there and extremely rugged.

Up-where-the-Silver-Jack-li

We had a slight rainfall last night.  Really nothing to speak of  lots of wind and a few splatters then it blew on leaving us behind.

Great-rainbowBut it left us a touch of a rainbow!  My first of the summer!

Well the day is waiting and I must get out there and get my watering done before the horrendous heat saps me and everything else.

Hugs,

Linda

I Just Have to Share

This looks like a repeat of the last post, but really it isn’t. The day clouded up in the afternoon and then we saw showers playing across the  Uncompahgre Plateau.

We had been sweltering in the middle of the corn field hoping some clouds would come in from somewhere.

When they did they blocked the sun which cooled us down, even if the rain stayed far away.

Then the clouds cleared of the moisture

And a little wind sprung up pushing the moisture and the cooling clouds in a different direction, leaving behind

a delightful couple of rainbows!

A gift from above….clouds, moisture, the heat from the sun and the corn blocked, and the gift of promise and hope!

Priceless!

Mid-Summer When all the Earth Rejoices

Everything and every animal is looking rich and fat

The corn is filling out

Even though the heat has returned, I really don’t mind.  I love spring, summer and fall.  All parts of each season.

The rains have left for a spell, but just before they left a rainbow landed in the pinto bean field.

All is right with my world.

Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone!

Linda

I’m BAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!

We were lucky, the weather held until we got the hay in.  Terry stacked it in a whole other spot so it won’t get mixed up in the really good hay.

Since we only had the irrigation to do and Terry needed a part for one of the tractors we took off for Rocky Ford, Colorado.  (The home of the wonderful cantalope—–and great tractor and combine salvage yards).

Blue Mesa Dam was beautiful

This is where we get our irrigation water, so seeing if full is wonderful!

It was fuller than we’ve seen in a long, long time.

The shopping center was full of all sorts of goodies

So much to chose from

In the end the perfect part was there.  And for a really nice price.

Home again.

Along the way I was given  a gift also

Pretty Cool.

We got back to a couple of really big, fast moving rain storms.  Everything is rich and green, including the weeds.

So I guess you know what I’ll be doing today. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and leaving comments.  I plan on getting around to everyone’s blog soon and hope to get all my comments answered today!

Weather a Mixed Bag of Blessings

It rained last night

My yard is beautiful and green, the dust is settled and the drying alfalfa is wet.  Just one more day in the heat and then a day to bale and haul and it could rain.

70% chance for the rest of the day and night today, Tuesday with more storms for Wednesday.

I still love the rainbows the storms produce.

An Easter Rainbow

We had a really nice Easter, lots of good food, 140 eggs to find (in groups of 3) and yummy desserts.

It was cold and rainy.  About 4 o’clock the clouds parted and let the sunshine through, with it came this delightful rainbow

The ends were miles and miles apart.

An Easter Rainbow…how Cool!
