The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— Rocky Chaco Man

Mom, Dad, and I were out working around the haystack yard when Mom looked up and said: “We are heading toward colder weather—sundog in the sky!”

I looked up with her and sure enough…there it was all sparkly and purdy!

Anyway…back to Rocky Chaco Man—

He has the best job…he gets to have lots of hugs and pets and pets and hugs…you see Rocky is a Reading Dog for the Mesa County Library System.

Rocky says he LOVES his job, but he HATES having to have a bath before he goes!!

HATES IT!

But Rocky Chaco Man’s mom insists—she says little kids can be allergic to dog fur so Rocky has to be as clean as possible.

Rocky says once he gets there he doesn’t even remember the horrors of the bath. It’s all about kids and hugs from that point on.

(I agree with Rocky…baths are NOT my favorite thing!)

There in the Sky Simple and Definite—-Thursday, September 20, 2018

We had thick heavy clouds all day yesterday, threatening rain, but none fell right here

Then as the sun was starting to set the whole sky lite up in a lighthearted affair…the sun striking the clouds in a golden shower of color.

The slanting rays sending out streaks of light blazing the underneath of the heavy hanging clouds with a brilliant glow of gold, and orange, and pink, and purple…

The color echoing throughout the sky and on the land, making plants, soil, buildings, even Terry and Boomer, Mindy, and I thick with the beautiful light

Then there in the southern sky was a blazing sign glittering and trembling in the liquid gold of air.

A crescendo ending to a grey and storm filled day!

From my heart to your world,

Linda

The Glow in Gray—-Sunday, June 17, 2018

Terry and I were out changing the water in the little cornfield when I looked up and saw

A beautiful sight….a SUNDOG!  Cooler weather would be on its way.

Then last evening, we started having scattered sprinkles.  Gradually as the night wore on and early morning came, a thin, much cooler spike of air rippled in through the open windows….and it began to rain.

Not a lot of rain, but still air freshening, washing the plants off until they glow type of rain.

Hopefully, rain in the mountains is stopping those malevolent, absolute evil, fires raging there.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Riding on a High Wind—-Sunday, July 30, 2017

We took a wee ride in the late evening air…

The crescent moon gliding through patches of simmering clouds —gradually gave way to clouds; gathered and darkened—- promising rain somewhere—either where we were driving or in the distance

Although, the clouds were gray and low; the drops of rain stayed off as we started back home.

Then the miracle appeared!

The sun shining between a slit in the clouds scattered in the west

A partial rainbow or a sundog (omen of cooler weather to arrive in three days).  I wasn’t sure which one: sundog or rainbow…I did not care!  To me it was beautiful!

Then the sun sank…

Turning the rain-filled western sky into a matching set of colors!

From my world to your heart!

Our Farm is a Peaceful Place—-Tuesday, September 13, 2016

chilly-mornings

But is also is a very busy place.  I am late posting today because of so many calls upon my time.

just-starting

We stir early, early.  The day is not even waking, when we stir to life and the farm is whirred into action like a freshly wound clock; the cogs and wheels shifting and spinning until the night rises to meet the day.  Then it starts all over again just like magic the next day.

getting-readyWe are working on the mud ditch.  What a huge messy job.  Terry got the a few of the dams out, I helped with the gated pipe—but we still have to pick up all the syphon tubes.  Maybe later this afternoon.

the-day-of-rainWe had several little rain storms move through our place last night.  We were out cutting firewood—still several more days to go—when the downpours occurred.  Not good for the pulled beans, but it is what it is.  We just move on forward.

hay-for-romeoThe little swallows have gone.  My heart feels sad…it means summer is officially over.  I love their pursuit of insects diving and swooping on slender outspread wings. morning-glory-hiddenStill the days are warm, but

small-sundogI saw a sundog while we were cutting firewood… a cool down is on its way.  The oldtimers say in three days.

Your friend on a western Colorado Farm,

Linda

Time, Passing, Moving Forward, Always—Sunday, December 13, 2015

Sky-2All of my life, even as a small child, I have felt there is something I am meant to do. Something.  Not big, not amazingly over-the-top, but something.

To be honest, everything I tried didn’t seem to be whatever the ‘it‘ is.  Although, I have enjoyed many, many things.

Here I am, almost 67 years old in one month, and I STILL don’t know what “it” is.

BigBut I must admit that ‘it’ nags at me, causes a sorta ‘need to know.’

Terry and his family are all super talented, it seems there isn’t anything they can’t do or create or achieve.  My brother and my family, also seem the same way, except for me…for some reason I can’t figure out what draws at my heart–what I am supposed to be doing —- while alive on the face of this earth.

Something that is niggling at the back of my mind saying: ‘time is starting to run out’.  It will not belong to each of us forever.  So I have decided if I haven’t figured out this—whatever it is—I’m probably not going too this late in the game.

HUGE-1

Instead I’ll just enjoy each day that is given to me.  My greatest and strongest wish I have is to experience joy in every fiber of my being, my mind, and my soul for whatever time I have left to me.  And to do that…all I have to do is enjoy each and every moment of every day I have left on earth.

A great big sundog appeared in morning sky today.  A major cold front is coming toward us.  The weather people say it will be here Wednesday…yep, right on time. Sundog portends a cool down in three days.

Sometimes I look at the sky and wonder…most people only see the emptiness of the sky, for the those things that live upon the earth clang and jar with sound and the trials and troubles of everyday living, plus people thrum with their own energy; their own lives.

Sky-1
But if you will stop and listen you can sense the procession of time on the earth and in the sky–something is going on in that great silence beyond our own knowing.

With much love, your friend,

Linda

Coming Soon—Monday, May 18, 2015

Cold-Snap-1Gosh, are you getting tired of this old song?  I sure am.  Another sever storm is due in here tonight.

CS1The sky never lies…a sun dog appeared as we were changing water in the alfalfa field, beautiful and prophetic.   Back home I checked the weather station and, sure enough, rain, wind, and snow heading our way. The good thing is it’s an over-night sort of deal then followed by some cooler weather.

Thankfully I still have some wood for the woodstove, not lots, but, hopefully enough!

2

So far everything is looking good in my yard and on the farm, the cactus hill covered with blooms

1A trip out to the edge is always a treat …I just love these White-stemmed Evening Primrose..the weather has been perfect for them.

Since another storm is heading our way, Terry has decided to wait to fertilize and start the water on the pinto bean ground.  This is the last irrigation on the alfalfa, then it will be time to cut it.  We will need a week or two of lovely warm sunshine when that happens.

Off now to load up DRY wood and put it under the carport.  I hope each and everyone of you have a lovely day,

Your friend,

Linda

CANAL is FULL!–Thursday, April 2, 2015

Yesterday was a very busy day and full of lots of new things.

sundog.jpg

First rattle out of the box I saw a sundog or sunshine on ice crystals in the sky.  Sundogs mean cold weather is coming…and SOON!

Today is cold.  It’s supposed to get colder, then by Sunday (Easter Day) we will start another slow warm-up.

Trash-MovingAround noon the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users worker bees showed up (Ditch Riders), which meant the canal was filling up with water.  The above photo show us the HUGE amount of trash which collects in the canals over winter.

TrashAbove this tree is our ditch rider, in a backhoe, trying to take out as much of the trash as he can so the bridge will carry the water.

You can see by this photo that the trash is thinning down.

Clear-sort-ofThere clean…sorta!

Then I saw this on a blog friend’s site and thought it was cool.  I also thought all you would find it interesting  (if you don’t already know).

Sota makes a person wonder if a big change really is about to happen, doesn’t it?

We are supposed to have high winds this afternoon (to blow in the cold front) and then again on Saturday and possibly Sunday to blow out this cold front.

Off now to keep working on my yard…what a huge mess it is this year.  I hope each and everyone of you have a really nice day!

Your friend,

Linda

Sundog and a Holding Pen Fence—Thursday, October 10, 2014

Change-on-FridayWe saw a sundog the other day…three days from the sighting of a sundog colder weather is coming.  Friday we should have colder weather…yep.  I looked on the weather channel and Friday we will be in the 60’s.

HC

For my fence today I’m showing you Mr. Davis’ holding corral.  He uses this when he loads out the cows.

Holding-CorralIt’s all metal and hand welded.  I think its really pretty neat!

Well, head on over to Teresa’s place and link up your fences or gates.  If you don’t want to do that check out what the others have linked!

You friend,

Linda

We have another storm coming in

1It will probably be here tonight sometime.

The weather people say it will be another series of storms coming to us clear from the Hawaiian Islands

2

So….that means I have lots to get done before night fall.

Today is clean out the chicken house day…not a job I enjoy, but ones the hens delight in.  When I’m done they will have lots of lush and rich hay to peck and scratch around in if the weather is too bad to go outside.

I use the hay from the baler.  Terry always cleans out the baler every time he uses the baler….blows the dust and leaves off of it, greases everything up, then parks it under it’s very own shed until the next cutting of alfalfa.  The hay that is taken out of the baler is mine to use around the farm.  We used to feed it to the pigs, and the goats and the sheep, when we had them.  I always gave a nice batch to the chickens and the the calves (if we had orphans) There isn’t tons of this lovely green leafy stuff, but over three cutting a summer I can gather up a nice little pile.  We put the pile in the same building with the baler and then cover up the pile with a tarp to keep the loose pile together.

Sometimes I’ll find a yummy bone or two buried in the deep reaches of the pile just waiting to be brought out for a nice chewing. 🙂

So off I go to get some things done before the weather blows in here wet and nasty.  The Farmer’s Almanac says “As November 21st is, so is the winter”.  Looks like wet and nasty just might be predicted for our winter.  (I say this because the storm is here until Saturday, then leaves and we have nice weather for a few more days. — Just storms for the 21st)

Your interested to see how the winter turns out friend,

Linda
