The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Bean Harvest

Bean Harvest!  Dad and Mom sure have been having a hard time getting all those pinto beans out of the field.

1

First the belt broke on the auger (day one) so the hopper had to be emptied BY HAND from the combine into the truck.

That was a huge job.

Ready

Boomer and I took it seriously and stayed out of the way.

Bush

Besides it was really super-hot!  Super-hot like that just takes everything out of you.

Then everything was going along really good

Boomer and I were helping….

AHHHHHHHHH

right after supper the folks headed back out and it

Waiting

STARTED TO RAIN!

11

Rain is NOT good.

2

Everything grinds down to halt.

16

It messes up the whole works.

Dad said maybe by four this afternoon he can begin again…the rows of beans have to be dry, VERY DRY, to combine or the combine won’t pick up the beans.

Ends

The other sad thing about the rain is it rained on the hay.  Dad was going to bale first thing this morning, but now he can’t do that either.  Rained on hay is not good…rained on hay can ruin the protein of the hay.   Dad is up there checking out the hay to see how much damage occurred. 😦  (Maybe not much, as sometimes the rain will miss areas of the farm.)

Last-set-of-the-day

It was muddy enough Mom walked up to do the irrigation so we ALL walked with her…

all three of us…

every step of the way.

6

The rain helped cool stuff off so the evening was rather nice.

Well, back to work…it’s warming up so Boomer and I

Sleepthink we had better get some serious sleeping

MEEEEEEE

in before the work starts.

Fuzzy

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Around the Farm

Evening-work

Last night Dad had to go to a meeting so it was just Mom, Boomer and I to hold everything down.

Hay-and-dogs

We checked water at 3:30 in the afternoon and then Mom took us for a little ride around the place.

Alflafa

The alfalfa is looking … little blooms are popping up all over.  You don’t want lots of bloom because the plant puts all the protein into the bloom.  But when the blooms just START the protein is perfect for feed.

Hay

This will be the last cutting for the year.

Buzzard

Mom, Boomer and I saw three Turkey Buzzards flying over us…I’ll bet they are after the dead raccoon over on the upper end.

Grass

Mom says the grass is really looking good…too bad we don’t have any cows.  But Mr. Davis’ cows will enjoy when they get here in February.

Rabbit-brush

Mom stopped and enjoyed the view on the Back 40 — she told Boomer and me she really likes seeing the Rabbit brush in bloom.  After lots of photos we headed on over to the new hay field where we had to change the water for the last set of the day.

Young-Chico

We saw some young Chico plants starting to grow big…that is always good.  Mom and Dad really like Chico bushes. So having some to replace the ones that were burned is nice.

The-Hunter

On the way back in we saw a really tough cat taking a dust bath in the corn field.  A dog just doesn’t mess with Sam if he values his nose. No sireee….noses are nice things to have.

My-Girl

We only see the ‘house cat’ when we are inside.  We have an agreement with her (and with Sam) we won’t bother you so you can leave your claws in your paws.

Night

We had to go back out at sunset to change the water for the night.  Boomer and I really enjoy helping Mom.  We hope you enjoyed seeing some of the stuff we see when we help Mom.

Hay-help

Life just doesn’t get much better does it?

Fuzzy and Boomer, of course!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Swallows Left

Yesterday, while Mom was washing the windows and the screen for the Living Room and the Dining Room the Swallows left the corn field – flinging themselves off the top of the corn tassels and into to the air to land on the electric lines way above our heads.

They gathered in huge bunches.

Mom hurried in to get her camera.

Whew

But well ….. I barked and barked at them — and they flew away.

I was sad.

So was Mom.

Mom said she wasn’t mad at me, she was just sad because when the Swallows leave the Hummingbirds will be next. After they leave it will start to freeze and the snows will come with huge winds that rip your face off your head.

She gave Boomie and me a huge hug and went back to washing screens.

We’ve been working with Dad in the New Hay field for several days now.  The hay just wasn’t drying down.

Checking-the-hay

This is Dad checking the hay to see if it is dry enough to bale.

Six

Yellow Strips where the hay laid until it was dry enough.

Four

Thankfully

Three

last night we got the last of the hay bales

Two

straightened

One

and Dad

Seven

got all but two loads hauled in.

Five

Altogether he has ten loads!!!   COOL!

He is hauling the last as I write this!

One of the raccoon’s ran through the yard last night….

Boomie took off after him, so today Boom says his knee is hurting rather more than usual.

Hop  Mom gave Boomer lots of pets and a dog aspirin in a SAUSAGE!!! (I got one also, but I didn’t tell Boomer!)

Well, the day is warming up nicely and I see a really nice hole that has my name on it.  Boomer is resting his leg, but I think I’ll rest my eyes!

Sleeping-in-the-shade

Fuzzy

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — A Couple of Things More

Mom said this is the shortest summer on record!

She says she lost most of July and is just now finding August.

Then it happened….

Hop-a-long

Boomie started limping.  Mom tried and tried to figure out what was wrong…

Nothing in his paw,

No cuts,

No visible anything.

So Mom loaded up Blade and Boomer and headed into the vets.

Geez, Boomer blew his A.C.L!

Blade asked TONS of questions of the vet; Mom came home with ‘stuff’ for Boom and told us (Boomer and I) we can’t run after stuff like Batman and Superman anymore.

That works for me…I really don’t like to go for very long walks now.  ALTHOUGH, I DO love riding on the four-wheeler!  But Mom’s four-wheeler threw a shoe and Dad hasn’t made it to town to get a couple of new tires for the front of the four-wheeler.  So Mom walks to wherever she is going now.

I don’t go.  I walk to the end of the yard and wait for her.

Boomie still wants to go, and does go for a short ways.

Mom says it’s a really lonely walk out to the ditches without us, but that is just how it is right now.

Anyway…life just keeps on going on.  It’s cool enough that I don’t like sleeping outside of the doghouse and have taken to sleeping IN the dog house.  Boomer only slept outside in July he says its way too cold to sleep next to me outside.  I agreed with him…so we sleep in our dog houses.

It won’t be long until we start sleeping inside the house.

Boy, where DID summer go?

Fuzzy

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Whew!

One set of company has gone home.  Zooker and Bella are now home with their Dad and their soon-to-be new Mom and TWO CATS!!!!!

Best-Friends

Teehee Bahhahahah laugh chuckle

On-a-walk

Fuzzy and I took them for many walks daily for about a week!

Now Hank is staying with us while his Dad goes to work and the little kids and Mom-mom stay with our Mom and Dad until their Mom-mom gets to feeling better. She is really sick so we are helping out.

The other dog cousins (Houston, Chaco, and Balou) have company also, so those companies are also staying with Fuzzy and I and our Mom and Dad.  They have some really cute kids we love playing with.  Then Sunday our other first cousins…our Mom’s Brother and his wife and their two fun dogs…Cocoa and Butter are coming to play with us.

Birds

The hummingbirds are THICK…all of the little kids like to stand in the flower beds trying to get the hummingbirds to land on them.  The birds don’t land, but the kids seem to have heaps of fun trying to get them too.

Humming

Fuzzy says that is the longest he ever sees those kids stand still!

Many

We had a very exciting ‘tree event’ right smack in the middle of all this, but I will let Mom tell you about it later.

the

Anyway, for now…just know that we are taking care of lots of pets and kids and our Mom is taking care of our sister Misty and other really nice people who are visiting.

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Liv’n is Easy

Mom and Dad have been really busy almost to the point of … way too busy.  But life for Boom and I has been EASY!

There isn’t a thing about every day that we don’t like even the heat isn’t bad, we just lay in the shade or lay under the pick-up or go inside and lay around in the cooler air.

  • There are squirrels to chaseAnother-Squirrel
  • Little girls to followLittle-girl here and thereSmile
  • And hay to help withSecond-Cutting
  • where Boomer and I help Mom fork the ends on the hay Forking-Hay

Dad is waiting right now for the dew to start leaving so he can go bale.  Then Mom and Boomer and I (oh, yes I forgot—Bella-BooBella and

ZookieZooker are spending the week with us so they will also go help) will go up and help Dad load hay.

Forking-Ends

Yep, the everyday I sing to myself—It’s Summer time and the Liv’n is Easy.

Fuzzy

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Bean Field

We’ve been helping Mom cut corn in the pinto bean field.  She takes the cut corn stalks down to Misty’s to feed the goats…sometimes we go down on the four-wheeler with a load of corn, other times the corn is loaded in the back of the pick-up and hauled to the goats.

Out-for-a-ride

Once we get to the goats Hank Puff comes back with us.  Hank LOVES riding in the back of the truck!  So do Fuzzy and I.

We all just LOVE TO GO anywhere at any time!

The days have been really hot and muggy, but we still go out and help.

Puffy-clouds-1

Dad helps us also…we go out early in the morning for a few hours. Then we all go back out around 7 in the evening.  Fuzzy and I hang out and wait for them…Fuzzy stays in the shade by the four-wheeler and I wait by looking around and smelling what I can smell.

A couple of evenings the grand kids, their Dad and our Sister Misty came out and helped. Our other sister, Shannon did too.  Things went faster that way.   Hank came along to help me check out things.

Clouds-3

Last night Mom and Dad and Fuzzy and I were all out in the field—the clouds were nice and fluffy when we went out

Storm-2

Then a storm blew in

Storm-1

The folks talked about heading in, but there was always just one more row to finish

Storm-3

So we stayed

It was awesome!

Storms here and there all around us!

Then suddenly we saw it —-

Double-Rainbow

A beautiful rainbow

The-other-end

From one end of the field to the other end

Middle

Complete with the middle!

Stunning

Mom and Dad kept on working until almost dark then they went and changed the water

As we were coming in I realized

Clean-beans

THE PINTO BEAN FIELD WAS CLEAN!

No more corn!

Dad said, “It looks real nice, doesn’t it?”

Fuzzy and I barked yes and I whapped my tail on the ground.  Fuzzy tried to wags his but he only has a little stump.

WE DID IT!  Mom, told us “Thanks, boys!  Everyone did a good job.”

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Middle of Summer

Summer is half-over!!! That’s what Mom told Fuzzy and I as we laid panting and panting under the car last night!

“Hang on, Boy! The heat will break-up soon as we get closer to the middle of July! Then, hopefully, we should have rain!”

“NO!” shouted Fuzzy and jumped up and moved under the pick-up.

“WHY NOT!” I yelled at him as he hobbled away!

“THUNDER IS COMING!!! We never have rain in the summer WITHOUT thunder!” shudder, shudder!

“Gosh, Fuzz, a little thunder never hurt anyone.” I said to him in a puzzled voice.
Last-for-the-year

Dad finished up the last cultivation of the year…the pinto beans are starting to shoot feelers. Once the feelers grow the rows shut then the pinto bean plants will start setting seeds.

Set-and-cultivating
Until then…we go with Mom to cut the volunteer corn out of the field. This corn is from seeds dropped last year as Dad harvested, they start growing and will make a mess at pinto bean harvest.

Help
Not from being too big to go through the combine but because the pinto beans and the corn kernels are close to the same size. You can’t have corn in the pinto bean at the beanery because you can’t clean them out. Same thing for Cockle burs!

Goats-3
So we head up with Mom as she cuts cockle burs and corn. Every night, just about sunset we ‘weed’ several rows…the cockle burs she throws away, but the CORN! The corn gets to go into a pile and go with us to feed the GOATS!!!

Goats-2

Fuzzy usually stays on the four-wheeler waiting for Mom. Or he lays in the shade by the four-wheeler.

Now ME!!!

I jump off the second the key turns off and head out for news. I have to really keep an eye on Mom while I do this because she will LEAVE ME!

Oh, yes, I know she will call and call and if I don’t get there in time she goes.

Goats-1
I’ve missed getting to go to Misty’s a couple of times (that is where the goats live).  Since I’m not sure where Mom really went I have to run home and wait for her.

I REALLY DO NOT LIKE WAITING FOR HER!!!

I really do like ‘going’ so I pretty much try (I really do try-honest I do) to keep an eye out or an ear up so I’m not LEFT BEHIND!

Tips-of-corn
Oh, I just about forgot — the corn is starting to shoot tassels!

Corn-and-sun
I guess Mom is right…we ARE in the middle of summer!
Boomer

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — In the Good Old Summer Time

I LOVE SUMMER!

I don’t even care if it is HOT!

Summer and I go together no matter what… there are things to do outside always!

Heck, I don’t even sleep in my dog house in SUMMER!

I sleep out next to the dog house in the cool, cool dirt!

We do lots of stuff in the summer…every day is FULL!

Summer-fun-2

There is helping Dad irrigate … we ride up on the four-wheeler with Mom and then while they set tubes we help stir up the mud in the ditch so it washes away!

Summer-fun-4

Our dog cousins like to hang out in the canal…Boomer and I NEVER go in the canal it would wash us away, away, away.

Summer-fun-3

The little kids play in water also…Boomer, Hank and I have never been invited into that water, but I’ll bet I WOULD LIKE IT!

Waiting

We always help Mom when she works outside…I like to rest my eyes while she is working. Lots of times Boomer keeps watch to see when Mom moves from one garden to the next garden.

(I have scared Mom a time or two because she says I sleep ‘like the dead’.  I’m not sleeping!  Hurampf, puff, puff     I’m just resting.  I always wake-up when Mom touches me and asks if I’m okay.   OR GO!! I AM ALWAYS READY TO GO!)

Mom says I have to change sides with Boomer on the four-wheeler because I’ve fallen off twice.  On the side I now ride on I can lean on Mom’s back to hold my balance.  You see I always Stand UP and sometimes my legs get tired.  The way I liked to ride on the other side I just would NOT lean on Mom when I got tired.  Now I do.

It has taken Boomer and me a lot of getting use to these other sides, but Mom says We Have to switch so we are learning.

When-it-is-cool-outside

Then when Mom goes inside we go in also.  Cool air is really nice when the days are too hot.  We are having humidity with our heat now—panting isn’t always cooling ENOUGH!

Summer-fun-1

That is how it is in the Good Old Summer Time!

Fuzzy
