Sherlock Boomer—-What Mom Doesn’t Know, Chapter Six, Friday, July 24, 2020

Chapter Six

While Mom and Dad were out in the second hayfield

trying to beat the

rainstorm heading our way—

I decided

to let myself out of the house

When out of nowhere

LOKI showed up!

“Hey, Boomer! Let’s go do something!”

Oh, my goodness, I thought to myself, Loki-Ta-Moki—Mindy Cat better hide

“HIDE MINDY!” I bayed

As soon as I bayed Loki decided to go FIND Mindy….

Ears up, tail wagging…

paws in FAST MOTION…Loki took off right to Mindy’s favorite spot to hang out.

Whew…No Mindy.

“Hey, Lok!  Slow down.  Let’s check for news and see what has been happening around here.”

I put my nose to the ground and started sniffing—

“Squirrel, Loki, Mom’s squirrel she has been feeding, came through.”

‘O!  Lok—SKUNK!!! We’ve got to be careful.  Either one of us gets sprayed it’s sleeping in the shed tonight.”

Loki just bounced around, running here there and everywhere.

“Just give me the good stuff, Boomer, something that runs fast and will get away from me.  Ya know.  I don’t want to catch anything…I just want to CHASE! Like RUN FAST!

Humm, I muttered –“Oh, Loki!–-FOX!”

“FOX!?”  Loki stopped his prancing and dancing around. “WHERE? WHERE!”  Tell me, Boomer…POINT THE WAY!”

“Huh, I think he headed to the Upper End, Loki.”

“UPPER END! SEE YA, BOOMER!”

Loki yelled as he sped around the junk pile

Geez, I wonder if I got that dog lost.  Man, will the little kids be upset!

Sigh.

Oh, well…time for a nap.

**************************************************************************************************

Later that day…

just around evening I heard lots of chatter and the patter of feet.

Out the door, I went.

There was Kya, Black Dog, and LOKI!

Loki said he had a blast at the Upper End.  He didn’t see the fox or anything really…he just ran and ran and ran.

I led the way to the Back Door,

Where we all milled around until  Mom came out with treats for ALL OF US!!

YAY!

Then Mom and I walked with my sister, all the dogs, and my little human niece, Tally, half-way back to the other side of the farm, where they were staying for the summer.

A Gift of Earth and Sky—Thursday, July 23, 2020

I sometimes get to thinking this blog is rather repetitious

I seem to only write about the sky, the plants on the farm

My yard

Irrigating…morning, noon, night

Animals which move around in the night

And the day

The worker bee of the farm...the whole farm runs on this one person, you do understand

Sometimes I liven things up a tad

OR a daytime sighting of a typically nocturn fox

Oh, Yes, I forgot we do have the returning deer

And the joyful visit of grandchildren and granddogs

And that sweet little beagle

And that very independent cat.

Not only the work of spring, summer, and fall, the work of winter

I suppose it may be repetitious

It is our life…

Shared with you on this wee little space in time

a miracle on our tiny spot of Earth and Sky

Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Linda

Sherlock Boomer—-What Mom Doesn’t Know Chapter Six, Friday, July 17, 2020

Chapter Six

Here is a series of things Mom doesn’t know about—Only Mom’s camera knows—I don’t know where Mom’s face goes when the camera is out, but it does leave.

Her face I mean

Whenever I see the camera on Mom’s face, I turn my head. Just Say’n.

“I turn my whole back to Mom,” Mindy stated

As she left the scene.

Sometimes I just leave.

Anyway

So here we go:

What Mom doesn’t know,

but her camera does—

And, of course,

Mindy and I know

I’ve tripped on these crazy things…they look like snakes

If I could tell Mom…this coyote has a den next to the equipment area…we have GOT to be careful when up there!

The Upper End is home to the family of deer…I like to bay at them

Sometimes they come into my yard at night—I always Hollar when they come in the yard

Mom’s camera seems to always be pointing at birds

Well, that’s it!  The First Alfalfa field and the Back Forty are looking good.

Mom and I   (and sometimes Mindy) just hanging out (oh, yes and camera face)

Sherlock Boomer—-What Mom Doesn’t Know, Chapter Five, Friday, July 10, 2020

Chapter Five

“MEOW!”

“MEOW!”

“MEOW!”

“MEOW, MOM/DAD I WANT IN!”

I’m done with all this waiting.

With that, Mindy stomped off the cement step, down the cement sidewalk, across the red bricks, back onto the cement sidewalk.

WAIT!!!

WAIT!

I think I need to take a little break here and …………….ummmmmmmmmmm enjoy myself for a spell.

Meanwhile—

“Henny lets go see what sitting on the cement step is all about.”

“Sounds good, wait just a minute, Penny, let me catch up with you. We will stand and peck at the door together.”

Peck, peck, peck

Peck, peck, peck

“This is dumb, Penny. I have better things to do.”

“HAHAHAHAHA” I bayed at those silly hens.

“There is no one home.”  Chuckling to myself I took off to do a little checking around.

I looked over here and sniffed out the news.  Nothing.

Then I went down the road a spell,

Humm, Raccoons.  In the night. Late.

Then I walked back to the lawn…nothing passed through here late last night, or early this morning, or after lunch.

“Hey, Mindy! Do you want to do something like anything…

I mean SOMETHING?  This is BORING without Mom and Dad.”

BAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

HOWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

“COME ON MINDY!  MOM AND DAD ARE HOME!”

Sherlock Boomer—-What Mom Doesn’t Know, Chapter Two, Friday, June 19, 2020

Chapter Two

Okay, enough is enough!

I’ve slept the sleep of the dead. I’ve slept on the kitchen floor where I can keep cool.

I’ve slept in my warm Boomer Sofa where I can stay warm.

I’ve slept out in my bedroom where I can stretch out and roll around.

I’ve SLEPT!

I’m tired of sleeping.

Just say’n

It’s TIME to GO OUTSIDE!

I pushed the back door open, picked up my bum leg, and hopped outside!

There is news out here just I know!

Let’s see check this out.

Now check this out

What’s over here.

OKAY!  That’s enough.  Time to move off the step.

Into the Garden, I go

Look this way

And That

OOOOOOOOOOOOO BAYYYYYYYYYYYY SMELL THIS!!!

Raccoon…during the night.

Always. RACCOON in the Garden!  BAYYYYYYYYYYYY!

Oh! Hi Mom!

Raccoon in your garden

Go figure.  Mom doesn’t understand Beaglie talk.

Oh, Well…I’ve known that for years.

Oh! Here comes Dad!

“Come on Boomer!  Let’s go!” Mom called me.

GO!
You Bet!

Sherlock Boomer—-What Mom Doesn’t Know (Friday, July 12, 2020)

Chapter One

I am feeling, better, better, better!  Boy is that sensitive nose of mine a mess.  I have to be very careful and NOT go out in the wind.

Or the weeds. Or the grass.

The second I go out in the wind my nose becomes infected. Then I’m sick and I have to take medicine which makes me very, very sleepy.

BUT…

TODAY! I feel GOOD! I feel good enough I am GOING TO DO SOMETHING NO MATTER WHAT MOM SAYS!!!

Now what started all this, you ask.  Well,

I was out checking all the news right after my very yummy break-the-long-night-fast of a boiled skinless, boneless chicken thigh.

(Mom is afraid I have developed an allergy to food so she is monitoring EVERYTHING!  Although, I do find the REAL boiled chicken thigh very yummy.  I can slurp that right down in two gulps.)

So, anyhoo here I am checking out the farmyard…lots of interesting things out here to sniff— when one has a sniffer.

I haven’t had a sniffer since forever!

Sniff, sniff, sniff.

Hummm

What do we have here…?!

Sniff, sniff, snuff

Raccoon.  Yes.  We have lots of raccoons, I think we are a major highway for raccoons.

Raccoons will kill and eat chickens, you know.  That’s why Mom always and forever locks up the two hens each and every night.  Locks them up tighter than a drum.  Gota keep ‘um safe, ya know.

Yes, raccoon…and WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

WAIT!

WHAT IS THIS!

Not a raccoon.

I don’t think I know this smell.

Sniff, sniff…oooooooooooo, yes, I do.  DANGER in the form of QUILLS!

NOT GOOD!

I better let Mom know.

But, wait!   I think I had better go check out around the Butler Bins and the farm equipment and the….

I took off trotting out of the farmyard when I heard:

“BOOMER!  WHERE ARE YOU?!  BOOMER! YOU COME BACK HERE!”

“BOOMER!”

Sigh!

I turned around…shoot.

MOM!  THERE YOU ARE! I LOVE YOU, MOM!

I hobbled up to Mom with my tail going in a circle.

“Boomie, you can’t go off on a walk-about anymore.  Your back leg doesn’t work, your knee hasn’t really healed from whatever you did to it this winter, you can’t see well, and your hearing is off.  I’m sorry Beaglie, your exploring days are over.  You have to stay in the yard and close to mom now.”

Mom reached down and gave my ears lots of rubs, pets, strokes, and a big kiss on my nose.

Sigh.

Okay, whatever you say Mom, I thought as I followed her back into the yard, then into the house.

Settling down, I made myself comfortable…I’ll sleep for a spell. BUT I think I still might do a walk-about sometime.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— Improving, Friday, May 29, 2020

I am better.  Well, let’s say I am somewhat better.  The fungus in my nose is gone, the swelling in my nose is gone, but I now have a cough.

Somedays I don’t have a cough.  Somedays I don’t have a sneeze.  Somedays I don’t have ANYTHING!

It’s on those days Mom and I think YAY BEAGLIE IS WELL!

Then …. The cough comes back, or the sneeze and the cough come back, or just the sneeze.

So now I’m on allergy meds.

So far, THAT is working.

Anyway, Mom and I Thank you so much!  Mom was really, really scared I had a tumor in my nose…which was a possibility.  A very scary possibly…

BUT NO TUMOR!

YAY!

I can sniff and smell anything I want to now!

Anyway, we have to let the allergy meds work (please keep me in your prayers that the allergy medication does the trick).

I’m doing so much better,

I like to go with Mom to irrigate.

I never liked to go with mom to work in the hay so I don’t even ask to go then.

Besides Mom doesn’t really want me to walk about in the high pollen grasses right now.

SOOOOOO!

Here I am. Boomer Beaglie Brown doing ever so much better!

The Adventures of Mindy on Friday— Freddy the Fox and Boomer, Friday, May,22, 2020

I was out hunting early this morning with Mom…well, Mom wasn’t hunting,

Mom was checking the end of the field to see what rows of water didn’t come through. Dad was out IN the field checking to see how wet everything was—

when FREDDY FOX RAN BY…AS FAST HAS HE COULD GO!

Then Freddy stopped…looked at me…I about passed out.

He barked…Fox barks are really different — go here to hear one — which scared me worse.

Then I listened, he was barking for Boomer.

“MEOWWWWWWWWWWWW!”  I screamed.  “Boomer isn’t outside, Boomer is sleeping in the kitchen on his big soft fluffy bed.”

“Get Boomer and have him come out…it’s time we had an adventure.” Freddy said to me.

“Not right now, Freddy.  Boomer has been sick and is resting.  Maybe when he feels better.” I replied.

VARRRROOOOOOOOOOOM

Freddy and I heard one of the four-wheelers startup.

Then we heard the other four-wheeler startup.

“GOTTA RUN! See Ya Around.” Freddy yelled as he took off toward the upper end.

That works for me I murmured, turning around

I flopped down and gave myself a very nice dust bath.

Then I jumped up and looked around.

I’m sure glad that fox is gone!

Off I went heading into the field to see about my breakfast!

The Sun, the Rain, and a Healing — I Hope — Tuesday, May 19, 2020

I must admit, that I have had fear for Boomer’s life riding in waves through my heart

I KNOW he is elderly and the time is growing short, but…

Still…then after beseeching the heavens and My God and Your God and the God of all this world,

I knew I could move forward, because of the medication, Boomer’s will to live, and the fact I asked for the power of collective prayer—peace filled my heart.

Opening my email, another glorious rainbow, from the Black Forest in Colorado…shouted—

Hope!

Thank you, each and every one!

Linda

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Please Send Prayers, May 15, 2020

I’m not feeling good

Besides my bad knee

I’ve got something going on with my nose

Mom and I would really appreciate it.

Thank you so much,

Boomer Beaglie Brown
