The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— Loki TaMoki, Friday May 1, 2020

Black Beauty and Loki TaMoki came for a visit.  Black Dog comes every day, sometimes twice or more a day…she is my sister’s dog, which makes her my best friend.

Loki TaMoki comes once awhile because he lives somewhere, I’ve never been, with all the grandchildren.

So anyway,

Black Beauty came to see me, and Mom

Then THE ALL AMERICAN ATHLET showed up:  LOKI TAMOKI

Loki came to see Dad.

After a spell, all the people went into the house, except Mom.  Who went over to check on some stuff by the Tile House, so I went with Mom.

Suddenly Mom and I heard. MEEEEEEEEEEOOOOWWWWW! SCREEEEECH!
SCREAM!

Then WOOF!

ZOOM!

“LOKI YOU STOP THAT!” Mom yelled.

When Mom yelled Mindy ran as fast as she could to Mom…with

You guessed it the athlete right behind her.

BUSTED LOKI

The Adventures of Mindy on Friday— A Peak into My World, Friday, April 24, 2020

I got trapped in Mom’s flower bed

Well, Not Really

FOOLED YOU!

I also went for a walk with

Boomer and

Mom

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!

Yesterday, I chased off another cat.  Mom saw me.  She told me not to chase that kitty it was Aunt Shannon’s.  Then Mom called out “COOPER! COOPER! Come here! MINDY STOP!”

I didn’t. I chased Cooper all the way to the cross-over ditch!

I AM GOING TO BE THE ONLY CAT HERE!

Oh…just so you know…BOOMER CAN RUN AGAIN!

Well, not perfectly run, but he can HURRY UP WALK and Mom and I think

THAT IS A GOOD THING!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—- April 3, 2020

I’ve been laid up some.

My horrible old injury came back…the one where I blew out my knee.

I can still get about, I just carry my left back leg.

My right back leg works just fine

I can go for short walks with Mom.  Or she will put me in that contraption you saw in the first two photos.

If I’m really careful I can kinda put some weight on it, but not for very long

Mom watches after me very gravely; taking my old age seriously and my bad knee into consideration IF I get to go with her.

Mom says it’s Her and Me (and Dad and Mindy) against the world.

That works for me!

I Love Mom

Chapter Nine

“BOOMER!!!” Mindy yelled.  “BOOMER Come SEE!”

I trotted over, put my nose to the ground and smelled.

“WOW! BIG CAT!”

“Yes!  A Very big cat! Are we safe, Boomer?”

“Well,” I pondered, “I think so.  We’ve had them walk down the farm road and the irrigation pipes before and nothing ever came of it.  Although, I did hear Mom and Dad talking about our neighbor, just over the way from the Back Forty, losing several sheep to a Mountain Lion.”

“SHEEP!”  Mindy jumped sky-high landing on her four feet over on the other side of the paw print. “These big cats eat SHEEP!?!?!”

“And other things.” I mused.  I remember Etta, my  sweet lovely Etta telling me they were out on a hike once and came across a BIG CAT in a tree. She said those big cats don’t waste their time eating mice and birds, they need BIG things to fill their tummies so they eat horses, cows, calves, sheep, goats…you know BIG things.”

“Oh!  Boomer!  Does the smell say the cat is gone?  I really don’t want to be food.”

Sniff, sniff, snuff, snuff…” yes gone. Gone one down the road.  I think we are safe.”

“BUT Mindy…the sun has set and now it’s dark.

Dark is NEVER a good thing out on the farm

EVER!”

“OH! BOOMER! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!!!” Mindy wailed.

It was just at the very moment when:

“Danger!” Mindy screamed.  “Danger!”

Mindy and Boomer Have an Adventure Chapter Eight, Friday, January 30, 2020

Chapter Eight

I stopped and just stared down the road.  I have a suspicion I know where Mindy went.

I took off as fast as my Beagle legs could carry me.

I had found Mindy’s tracks

And where she rolled in the dirt,

which gave me a very fresh scent

Then I saw where she climbed into the ditch, hum…. oh, yes, out she came here.

O! OH! Humm…. herked up mouse guts.  Rather nasty.  I guess Mindy ate too many mice.

On I traveled…not long now before I get to the cross-over pipe….I have a feeling I will run into Mindy at the cross-over pipe.  She LOVES going with Mom, Dad and Myself when we walk up to the cross-over pipe.  I don’t know why I didn’t think of that myself.

I kicked it into high gear.

The sun was starting to set, but that’s okay.  I know the farm like the pads on my paws.

Besides

The Cross-Over pipe is LOTS of fun!

Once I catch up with Mindy, we can have our adventure!

Meanwhile—

Now I wonder what this paw print is?  Mindy sniffed around on the print.

Cat?  Wow!  That is some kind of Big Cat? WOW!

The Farm Does Not Confine — Monday, January 20, 2020

Terry, Boomer and I took a wee walk-about on the farm one evening

The sun was just starting to set and the day birds and day animals were slowly losing their loud thrumming and calling — settling down upon the land

We walked upon cow trails, avoiding the very snowy farm road

Past the cement ditches waiting for the thaw

and slumbering fields

As the wild Canada geese winged their way onto our farm

And the Sandhill cranes bedded down for the night

Filling the air with their trilling calls

We gradually made our way back to the house.

Our farm, not confining but defining us, like all sacred places.

Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Linda

Mindy and Boomer Have an Adventure Chapter Six

Chapter Six

I followed Mom to the kitchen door, she opened the door, held the door opened for me and said: “Do you want to come in, Boomie?”  I just looked at her and wagged my tail.  Just the tip of my tail.  I really didn’t want to come in and I didn’t want her to force me to come in.  At the same time, I didn’t want Mom to be mad at me for NOT wanting to come in.

“That’s okay, Boomie.  You don’t have to come in.”  she shut the door and was gone.

Now, it seems I was doing something before Mom came along.

What was it?

I put my nose to the ground and sniffed around trying to jog my memory.

“OH! YES!”  Mindy and I were going to have an adventure together.

“MINDY!” I bayed.  “MINDY!”

Nothing.

No Mindy.

I started searching here and there and everywhere.

UP one side of this and down one side of that.

Over to the fences,

down the roads,

up by the grain bins.

No Mindy.

No Mindy anywhere.

This is NOT good.

I think I had better sit down and ponder this problem. What I think I need to do is THINK LIKE A CAT!

OOOOOOO!  Now, this is rather hard to do.

Thinking like a cat.

Hummm

OH!  There is Dad—Mindy always likes to be with Dad.

I shoved off my old beaglie body, making it trot over to Dad.

Where is Mindy?  I looked and Looked and LOOKED!

No, Mindy.  Anywhere. No Mindy hiding close by or even far by.

I just sat down in total discouragement.

I really need to figure out where Mindy is-Night is coming on.  Night in the winter where hungry predators stalk.

Darn!  I have to find Mindy!  I got up and started walking to the grain bins to head out onto the farm.

If she isn’t in the farmyard, then she must be out on the farm.

Meanwhile …….

Mindy and Boomer Have an Adventure Chapter Five, Friday, January 10, 2020

Chapter Five

Geez, traveling with Boomer is ever so booooooooring!  Boring!  I mused as I left Boomer trailing behind Mom with a determined look on his face.

Winter is long, the days are long, the nights are horribly long; all I want to do is get out of the house and explore.

Hum…no one has been here. I don’t even see a raccoon footprint.

Let me see that wild cat hasn’t been by the yard for a long time.  I wonder if all the cows chased him away.  I think I take a little peek in the canal—sometimes I can catch that mean, wild, thing trying to slip onto the farm and grab some of the mice who hang out by the barn.

Nope, no strange cat prints.

I think I am going to head to the Cross-Over ditch. It’s rather dull here.  There are lots of things to see and do way up to the ditch.

Let’s see; let me count the ways:

  1. Play on the haystacks as I go by
  2. Run up and over and in the spare-parts combine
  3. Scrabble onto the fence, then scram back down as fast as possible
  4. Run up and down on the implements resting on the by-way.
  5. If I am lucky, I’ll scare up some mice. Mice are yummy for the tummy, you know.
  6. Then it’s a long run/halt/run through the open ditch searching for mice and birds and other creatures hiding there
  7. It Dad hasn’t closed off the irrigation pipes I can run into the pipe a long way, turn around and run back out.

(I have a feeling the pipes are closed off.  It seems Dad does that before the snow comes. —But I will go look anyway)

  1. Finally, I will make it to the Cross-over pipe. I usually don’t EVER go there unless I’m with Mom, Mom and Dad, and Boomer.  But today I WILL!

Okay, before I go, let me head over to the woodpile.  I like the woodpile.  There are MICE in the woodpile.  I’ll just hang out and grab a snack or two. Then head off through the corrals, past Dad working on one the buildings and be on my way to the Cross-Over pipe!

Mindy and Boomer Have an Adventure Chapter Two

Chapter Two

“Boomer! Let’s get on the move!  Sleeping our lives away is boring.  Just plain boring!” Mindy meowed at me.

“WHAT!” I sputtered. “You, a cat; who sleeps at LEAST sixteen (16) hours in twenty-four (24) hours, is telling ME sleeping is BORING?!?!”

“Oh, stop your sputtering and let’s go!”  Mindy walked to the kitchen.  Suddenly stopped.  Stopping so suddenly I bumped into her.

“Why did you stop, Cat?” I grumbled.

“The door, Boomer.  We need Mom to open the door so we can go out!”

Mindy turned and bounded up the stair meowing for Mom.  I could hear her heavy bounces on the stairs; one step-two step bounce, MEOW, one step-two step bounce, MEOW!

From far away, and far off I heard Mom’s tiny voice, “You want out, Mindy?  Okay, just a minute.  Let me finish—”

“MEOW!”

“Oh, alright,” Mom replied.

Then I heard Moms’ footfalls across the upstairs floor.  Then I heard Mindy start bounding back down.  As soon as I heard Mindy’s very loud cat footfalls, I pushed my nose against the back door, shoved it open with my shoulders and WAM! I was out and the back door slammed behind me!  Hehe

I walked over to the large silver water bowl and started helping myself to huge laps and gulps of cold, delicious…BRRRRRRRRRRRR ICE WATER!

I swallowed the very last sliver of ice just as Mindy came slithering out the back door.

“Yay FREE.

Let’s go, Boomer! The world is waiting!”

Mindy picked up her paws gave a little hop, skip and dance

peeling off toward the Butler Grain Bins.

I watched for a short while, gathered my paws under me and sped after her.

AWAY on an Adventure, WE GO!  I bayed!

As Seen on the Night (Game) Camera —- Tuesday, November 26, 2019

In a small

silver shaft of silvered moonlight

There in the deepening dark

The night camera captured

The wandering souls

Who live in the emptiness

of the pearl-edged clouds

and the blackness of the farm.

The Wandering souls,

As the world nears the solstice,

who walk in the soft and lovely deepening night.

From my heart to your world,

Linda
