The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —Snacks

Apple-Tree…………….just as Mom came out of the back door I jumped up from my comfy bed in my outside dog house. I was just in time to see Boomer padding up to Mom, tail wagging.  We were both very glad to see Mom.  If you see Mom that means we are going to do something, go for a ride, go for a walk, something that Boomer and I don’t have to figure out to do.  Just be with Mom and see the sites.

Same

She was on her way to check on the cows and the calves….GOOD!

Baby1

We love going out to check on the cows and calves.  We don’t go unless we are invited…rule number 6…never go into the maternity ward unless Mom is with you.

Baby-2

Hank never gets to go…Hank has some pretty bad manners…like he wants to chase cars, he wants to chase chickens, and yep, you guessed it…he wants to chase cows.  So Hank has to always stay home and play with the little kids, which isn’t too bad of a deal.  The bad part of the whole ‘being outside alone’ thing for Hank is he has to wear a shock collar.

Beef

Boom and I have discussed this — after talking to Hank we’ve decided we are NEVER going to wear a shock collar so if we are told NO…we listen.

New-baby

Anyway, we were off with Mom to the maternity ward…yep, lots of calves, then I caught a smell..hummmmmm a delicious smell…I poked my nose up into the air and gave a big sniff, then I looked for Mom and Boomer…they were was down the lane, I looked behind me…just the cat.. I knew just what I was going to do…I was going to get myself a little snack…

Jerky

BEEF JERKY!!

YUMMMMMM.

A dog doesn’t often get to have beef jerky, most of the Momma cow’s clean everything up, but sometimes a new mom will forget…then the afterbirth sort of sits out there and dries up and well…if I can ever find any…I LOVE IT!!!

I found some…and I was going to go get it and forgo the walk with Mom.

So off I went.

and

It was just about the time that I was chowing down on the beef jerky

Milk

that I hear Mom, telling Boomer: “DROP IT!”

“Drop it, Boomer! THAT IS GROSS, DROP IT!”

Yep, I knew just what he had found…nothing finer than MILK DUDS!  Little baby calves only eat milk from the Mom for weeks, takes them some time to get their little stomachs to the place whereby they can start eating grass and hay, up until that time their poop is delicious!

Yummm.

I saw Mom reach Boomer and then I saw Boomer running off with a nice pile of Milk Duds, then Mom got Boomer to stop at which time he dropped the snack.  Then I saw Mom covering up the snack with dirt and telling Boomer he wasn’t going to eat that then come into the house and throw up!

NO SIR!!!

Then they started back toward ME!!!!

I had to hurry, I was only a little ways into my snack…my old teeth and jaws don’t chew as fast as they used too.  Suddenly Mom was there.

“DROP IT, FUZZY!  NOW!”

Dang it, so I did.

She then got hold of my collar (she already had Boomer’s collar) and we headed back home.

Sigh!

Out-with-Sam

On the way we met Sam…he just gave us this look of — you guys sure are dumb.

Boomer told him, but they taste so good!

By the time we reached Sam, Mom wasn’t leading us anymore.  I sure wanted to turn around and give a wistful look at the Maternity Ward, but I was a little concerned I would get yelled at in front of the cat, so I didn’t.

Back home, Mom put us in the house.

Boomer didn’t throw up…he said he only got a little taste before Mom got there.

I suppose we won’t get to go to the Maternity Ward now for some time.

Bummer!

Fuzzy

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —It’s Still Winter Here

Nasty, wind freezing your nose shut storm came in Storm-1

yesterday….the cows ate, and ate, and ate

Storm-2

and then went and hunkered down for the night.

Storm-3

Fuzzy and I were outside about mid-night last night and it was just starting to snow.  (We had to check out things before we hit the bed…pee, see who else had left a mark…you know…dog stuff).

More-Snow

Mom was a little mad at me, because I took off around that time….Freddy Fox pranced through the yard and then headed into the corn field and well….

SnowGosh…

Geez…

Well, I just wanted to go play with him.

I came back…I was always planning on coming back.

And YES I heard Mom calling, but I, well, just wasn’t ready.

Fuzzy-and-his-blanket

Fuzzy went back.  He told me he hung with Mom while Mom walked around the farm calling for me.  Then they went back into the house and Fuzzy said he went to bed.

He scratched up his blankets and just settled right in for a long winter’s nap.

Mom came out again around mid-night thirty and called once more — she didn’t have too I was waiting right there by the grill.  WITH A HUGE SMILE ON MY FACE!

It didn’t work.

She was very mad at me!  Boy, did I get the lecture: “There are coyotes out there, when I call you, you had better come, blah, blah, blah….”  I sort of stopped listening as I ran into the house and flopped down on my bed.  I was ready for bed.

Sleep

Then Mom picked up my blanket and flapped it over me.  I don’t think I heard another word, although I knew Mom was still upset, I also knew she was delighted I was home.

When we woke-up this morning the storm was still here, I think the worst is the wind.

Fuzzy and I both agree,

WE ARE READY FOR SPRING!

Boomer

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —First Babies

Yesterday was BATH DAY!!!!

Bath

Mom said that we had to go because Fuzzy needed to get his fur cleaned up from the surgery.

Boome-bath

So we went…

It wasn’t bad.  Fuzzy and I actually enjoyed it!

Then when we got home Mom, Fuzzy and I went for a walk.

We saw lots of birds again-

Birds-1

Ring necked doves,

WHAT

Our chickens,

Singing-birds

A tree full of blackbirds

Hawk-1

A hawk,

Cat-walk

Sammy the cat

Cat-walk-1

went with us…

Help-cow

First me, then Mom,

We-all-go

then Fuzzy and then Sam.

Yummm

It was great!

Where-are-the-cows

But, I must admit I stayed really close to Mom,

because…

You see…

Hum……….

New-baby-1

THERE WERE BABIES OUT THERE!!!

New-calf-2

We saw two babies!  Now every day there will be more and more!

Pretty Cool, isn’t it!?

Boom-bath

Boomer

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —A Walk through the Cows

It sure seems we have been hang’n at the house lots lately.

Sigh!

BUT Mom has started walking out on the place this week and WE GET TO GO WITH HER!!!!

Sure is fun!

I try….really I do…I, hum, try to stay with Mom and Fuzzy…BUT

Boom-the-Boomer

THEREISSOMUCHTOSMELLANDDOOUTTHEREITISREALLYHARD!

Mom walks LOTS slower than I do…I mean, heck, I can be clear to the end of the field and BACK by the time she and Fuzzy get just a little ways into the field.

But to be fair, I think Mom walks with Fuzzy so Fuzzy doesn’t get lonely.

I really should also

BUT THERE IS SURE SO MUCH TO SMELL OUT THERE ————————–

Chasing-Rabbit

We walked over to the equipment hillside, where Fuzzy scared up Robby the Rabbit.  Fuzzy and Robby ran every which where, until Robby got tired and hid in the roller.  Fuzzy barked at me to join him, but I was over with Mom looking at the old junk which really is homes for the mice.

The mice were not as interesting as the Robby the Rabbit but I was just too far away to be part of the fun.  By the time I got there, Robby was tired and sitting in the roller just watching us.

Phooey.

Canyons--0

We sat on the hillside and looked at the canyons of the Esclante and Dominguez for a short while….then we all moved over to the little pasture and Mom told us if it were night we could see all the cars coming across the desert from Grand Junction to Delta, but of course it wasn’t night so we couldn’t see the traffic.

Grand-JunctionMom assured us it was there.

I headed down to the cattails, but Mom and Fuzzy didn’t they headed over to the little alfalfa field, Mom said half the place was good enough to walk for now.

Cow-Trail

The cows have made a path in the same spot in the field and in the dirt ditch that they have for over 40 years…Mom says it’s the shortest distance to where ever they are going.

Every time Dad sees the flattened out ditch (just in that one spot) he threatens to lay pipe there and cover it up. But he never does, he just gets out the ditcher in the spring and makes a new ditch.

I think he just likes to talk about the path, he really doesn’t care!

Walking-aheadOn the way back I joined Mom and Fuzzy, I really needed to be close to Mom because…..

My hurry had sort of vanished!

Because….

Well….

WE

HAD

TO

GO

THROUGH

THE

COWS!!!!!!

I’m really afraid of the cows!

I’ll bark at them if they get too close to the electric fence around the yard, but I don’t want to do more than that.

WHY?!?!?!

Those girls will CHASE YOU!!!

THAT’S WHY!!!

I had them chase me when I first got here, that sort of thrill I didn’t need again in my life!

Afraid-of-the-cows

Mom has to make me go in front of her, but I only go one step in front of her foot…

Mom and Fuzzy laughed at me, but I didn’t care.

As soon as we got through the herd of 70 pregnant females —- you think about that…

SEVENTY

(70)

PREGNANT

FEMALES

I ran right to the house!

Whew!

I enjoyed the walk, I sure did.  But getting through all those cows is best!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —Cow Dog to Farm Dog

The word “cowdog” did not exist in the English language until after the trail driving period of 1870 and the 1880s.

Today people understand that we dogs are important to help out on the farm and the ranch.

Better-pink-hills

I was raised to be a help on the ranch.  For five years I lived with a wonderful old man, we were great friends and partners.  Then one day he passed on over the rainbow road and his kids didn’t want me.  They took me out to the country and dumped me out on the road.

Hanks'-cows

I waited for days and days and days right at the spot they dumped me out.  Mom and Misty would try and try and try to get me to come to them, but I waited to have my people come pick me back up.

Storm-leaves

Finally I got too hungry…I was a bone, when Misty and Mom came out with ROAST BEEF…I couldn’t turn it down.

So now I’m a farm dog.

What

I love being a farm dog.  I still get to help out with the cows (not as many as I used to, and no horses, but that is okay.)

I still help haul hay and load hay, I help irrigate, and I go everywhere with Mom.

Now we have Boomer.

My best buddy in the whole wide world!

IMG_6256

Boomer was a complete and total house dog.  He isn’t any more; he’s a farm dog also!

Barking

So I told you all of this to tell you… I’ve feeling really good!  My stitches are out….my scar is healing nicely and my fur is coming back!

After-the-Bath

We have another dog hanging around.  Mom is really worried about this dog…it is old, and thin, and very afraid of people.  This dog is wearing a collar so Mom is trying to catch the dog to see if she can find the people who own the dog —neighbor ???  dumped off???

Stray-dog

And help the dog.

Boomer and I always ALERT Mom when the dog is on the property.  We sure hope to help this dog out.

I think this really old dog would love to be a Farm DOG!!!!

Fuzzy

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —Doing Better

Today, in just a little while, I go with Mom to get my stitches out!

I’m ready!!!

Those things itch!  My back paw fits right where they are and it feeeeeeeeeeeeels so good.  Then Mom grabs my back leg and tells me to stop, “can’t do it right now, ole boy”, she says.  And pets me until I forget I had the itchys.

My tumor was right behind my shoulder blade and had grown into the shoulder blade area which is why I was having so much trouble walking.

But not anymore!

Out-for-a-walk

Every day we go for a walk and I made it clear around half the place yesterday.  Who says old dogs need to be put out to pasture?!

Cows-1

Mom, Dad, Boomer and I were looking at all the really early spring work (or is it late winter work?) Dad and Mom want to get done before the farming season starts.

Birds-and-sunset

Boomer and I were looking for anything of interest!

Doves-in-a-tree-1

We saw lots of birds.  Some Mom was able to get a photo of but mostly she didn’t.

More-walk

Boomer had to run off to the upper end and over to the back 40 (I sure would have liked to go) and we all heard him YELP.  He hollered at me the rabbits were hopping about, but I just couldn’t do it this time.  Next time I told him, not today.  You give chase for both of us!

And he did.

Off-to-bed

We were up there a long, long time.  When we started back home the cows were heading up to sleeping draw to spend the night.  They were early because a storm was coming in and they wanted to bed down before it hit.

Hens

I was glad to get back home too…that bedding down idea sounded really good.

Resting

Boomer said he would take a nap with me; that’s what buddies are for.

sleeping

Well, anyway Mom and I are off to get the stitches out!  Everything is looking up.

Fuzzy

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —Update

Your Magic THOUGHTS WORKED!!!!  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Fuzzy is home“`!!!

I’m so very happy!

Where-is-Mom

He still doesn’t want to play much.  He slept all afternoon and night, except when we went for a walk. Mom says we all have to do our ‘business’ outside,  that’s the rule.

Fuzzy  wanted to go with us, but he didn’t go far.  Just Mom and I went far.

Out-and-About

He has this funny coat on and it makes him breathe hard.  I tried to tell Mom that Fuzzy’s coat is too tight.

Fuzzy talks to Mom all the time about how he is feeling.

Fuzzy never talks; I do all the talking, but now Fuzzy sort of whines and groans and looks at Mom…PLEASE HELP me he says.  Mom sits by Fuzzy and pets and pets and pets him until he goes back to sleep.

NOW THAT starts to upset me, so I weasel my way in under her arm and make her pet me also.  But if I try to get between her and Fuzzy, Mom says: “Boomer, that’s enough!  Sometimes life isn’t about Boomer, sometimes it’s about Fuzzy!”

“HUH!!!”

“WHA”!

“Well I know that`!`!  It’s just, geez, Fuzzy is getting ALL THE PETTINGS!!

So I go over and lay on Dad’s feet.  Humph.

Better

This morning Fuzzy felt well enough to go do the chores down at Shannon’s house, and to eat and drink a little something.  But he is sleeping now as he had to have some pain medicine.  I think life is really boring if Fuzzy is not up and doing something with me so I think I’ll go to sleep

Now

YAWN

Boomer

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —Going for a Walk

I’m doing better, Thank you all for your magic thoughts!

Walk-3I even am able to go for walks with my humans and with Boomer.

Tracts

We saw Freddy Fox on the walk

Hurry-Up

and I even RAN a little bit and barked with Boomer.  Freddy yellowed/baked back at us.

Walk

IT WAS EVER SO MUCH FUN!!!

We are still cold… the days are warming up to around 22* but very quickly sliding back down.  As soon as it hits 22* Mom has us out the door and heading out for a walk.  She said 22* feels almost balmy.

e

(I think she is sick or something…22* is, well 22* and that is cold!)

Coat-3

Boomer has to wear his coat whenever he is outside, but I have two coats already built in so I never have to wear a coat.

Coat1Mom has been told that I look like a cross between a Border collie and a Sheltie, because of my fur.  My personality, it the best of both breeds, even if I do say so myself!’!

Slow-walk

(Mom agrees with me, Boomer says whatever I am I’m just the bestest ever.  I really like Boomer!)

Shadows-2

Anyway, here is what the shadows look like around 2-3 in the afternoon

Shadows-3

and then what they look like when

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —Magic Thoughts

Your magic thoughts worked!

Thank you EVERYONE!

All shelter dogs were adopted BEFORE CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Diamond went to her forever family on Thursday, the week before Christmas day, then Zeus found and home and next Athena.  No one is left to worry about living in the shelter.  Everyone safe and sound in new forever homes!

Fuzzy and I THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

But now I, Boomer, would ask a very special favor of each one of you, for my bestest friend and forever buddy, Fuzzy.

Fuzzy-with-the-wind

Fuzzy is hurt.

Well, not hurt, but not sick either.

But he is well, in pain.

Fuzzy has a sebaceous cyst; he has had it for a very long time, long before I came to live with Fuzzy, Mom, Dad, the cats and chickens.  But Fuzzy’s sebaceous cyst has started to enlarge and now Fuzzy can’t walk.  It hurts him.  He hobbles along and then has to sit down.

I’m very worried about him.

Best-Friends-1

Fuzzy is my bestest everything.  We do EVERYTHING together, but now, when I ask, Fuzzy says he doesn’t want to right now, maybe later.

Best-Friends

He then lies down again.

He is also very restless, up-down-up-down.

Mom took him to the Veterinarian; the sebaceous cyst is causing the problem.  Sometime soon-in little over a week on January the 7th, Fuzzy has to go to the hospital and have it removed.  The operation is a very simple procedure, but Fuzzy is old.

Please send all your magic thoughts to Fuzzy that he makes it through the operation and comes home to me and we can play and run and chase birds.

That together we can bark the mailman down the road and go for long walks with Hank, Shannon’s dogs and any shelter dogs who need walking.

I will really appreciate it!  (And so will Fuzzy)

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — HAHAHAHAHA

Today is December 21, 2012, the end of the Mayan Calendar….it is also our Mom and Dad’s 45th Wedding anniversary!

Sunrise 7:27 a.m. and Sunset 4:54 p.m. Day length 9 hours and 27 minutes—same as yesterday.

New Years 2009 012

Anyway…You want to know what is so funny?!

THIS!

Dog-Hats-1

Bahahahah, laugh, snort, chortle, giggle, and snigger…roll on the ground funny!

We about broke open our sides we were laughing so hard.

Houston, Rocky and Balou just stared at us…they told us not to knock until we tried it.

BAHAAH, it still was funny!

Then Houston, told us in her warm, sweet voice…that they always get to go to town now, with the hats and coats on they don’t get cold and stay warm.  And they get to go walk the shelter dogs in town because they can stay warm.

“So there”, glared Rock and Balou.

That was okay by us…we both rolled in the grass laughing it was just so funny.

Then Shannon showed back up with the shelter dogs and….

AND

!* AND*!

THESE!!!

REALLY

Mom made us put them on and wear them BACK TO TOWN, where everyone saw us!

RUN

I, the Fuzzy Dude, cow dog extraordinaire in THIS!!!!  Boy, as soon as we got to the park I rubbed mine off.  But Mom put it back on the second we got back into the truck.

WHAT

Sigh!

HURRY

“Mine felt really good!”   I, the Boom, kept them all on and even kept the coat on after we got back home!!!

Christmas

Getting back in the house was the best. Those things came off and we could rest.
