Dancing in Shadows—-Wednesday, January 18, 2017

going-down-to-see-rocky

We had sun for awhile yesterday! And the temperature rose enough to dry up some of the mud.

last-quarter-moon-004

The heavy clouds cleared and the moon unfurled itself over the farm— lighting Boomer’s and my path with silent silver mysterious and wild moonbeams.  Like the flutter of an angel’s wing.

Today the sun rose in an almost clear sky!

moon-beamsThe late setting moon drifted fast toward the west making the moonlight pulse rather than flicker, in the soft yellow sunbeams, which fell all around the sun-starved earth. Giving the air, the sleeping trees and plants and the drying earth a glow even an angel would enjoy.

So off I am to work in the woodpile—there are logs which need splitting, kenneling to split and gather, plus a few other tasks I couldn’t do because of the mud.  Terry is working on getting the snowmachines ready to take to mountains.

Our Weather Report—-Tuesday, January 17, 2017

before-the-melt

We went from this

wet-004To this and have stayed at this for weeks now. Rain and rain and even more rain.

wet-003Sigh!  The days are long and grey and boring and ever so nasty.

roof-topStill it seems like there is always something that needs to be done.

walk-in-the-farmI’m looking forward to walking with  Boomer  in the SUNSHINE!  Where we throw shadows on the ground and our feet don’t collect mud!

But not yet!  Not today.  Not for awhile.  Another big storm system is heading in here in a day or so, until then just know that I am

Hot-Summer-NightDreaming of those hot summer nights some place in the future!

I Miss the Sun—Monday, January 9, 2016

snow-on-the-san-juansWe are socked in again.  The sky is thick with clouds and the scent of snow is live in the air.

Sigh!

ice-and-shadows-009

My mind, my heart and my soul misses the sun.

red-sunrise-001

Even a tiny sliver of sunrise would be nice.

ice-and-shadows-014Or a quick peak at the sun as it vanishes into the night!

Any sunlight would be nice.

Until then…

I’ll know that the mountains are filling up with snow…snow means melt come spring, melt means full reservoirs and water for irrigation!  YAY!

Heat Shimmering on the Farm—Sunday, June 5, 2016

Here-Comes-the-Sun-4The heat has arrived!  The sun started the day with a promise of warmth..of air smelling like Iris, Columbines, roses, and pink daisies.

MorningI woke feeling ever so creative and full of energy that I took upon myself a staggering amount of work: clean in the basement, mop the floors in the kitchen, bathroom, the back porch, wash all their windows, clean all the cupboards and cabinets, and refrigerator,  oh, yes and scour the stove.

Rosese-1Work in one flower bed: weed, prune, deadhead, etc.  Painted two of the garden benches.

Sammy--and-the-rosesWhile I’m at it —why not try three new recipes I’ve been wanting to try for some time

AND….start making paper.  (Something I’ve been wanting to do for—ever)

Sitting-Water-on-the-dirt-dBy the middle of the day the heat was sucking down into the earth, causing the soil to glow and simmer and Terry and I to do so right along with it!

Shadows

It was still hot when we went for the last set of the night, but starting to cool down. (As a side-bar note–I really love the heat; it’s the cold I don’t care for.)Evening-1 When we finally got back home after the last set (9:30 p.m.)  I was obliged to admit to myself— I can not work like that anymore.

I have to pace myself…I was way too tired. I may have been able to work like that a few years ago, or even last year.  But not this year.  From now on I’m going to ‘save’ some things to do later.  There really isn’t a time clock on my work.  The only real time clock exists with the plants on the farm and in my yard. Everything else will wait.

And if people come and the house needs dusting, or the windows washed, I hope they understand—-somethings will just get done at another time.

Evening-2Besides…I’m sure it’s okay.  I never go see someone’s home, I go to see the people who live there.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Sunshine Here Today—March 24, 2016

The snow is gone!  Well, almost!  And the wind has moved on leaving behind a cold front.  But WITH the cold front is blue skies and big white puffy clouds, and SUNSHINE!

Beautiful, beautiful sunshine!

Please forgive my whining yesterday.  I really do try to see the positives in my world and try very hard to limit the negatives…although, I don’t always make it. Oh. well…moving on.

delta-county-fair-1940Randy from San Antonio, Texas sent me a very cool photo of the Delta County Fair around 1940.  How much fun this is to ‘step back in time’!

Anyway, to borrow from another blogging friend, Marlene—Herself, I end this short post

from My heart to your heart!

Linda

Post Script…I’ve off to enjoy the sunshine!  Love you!

A Wee Walk About—Tuesday, February 2, 2016

East-1Our air started chilling down on Saturday night…growing thick with mystery and the  promise of snow.  The gray-pink clouds began enfolding the earth, as the sun set assuring us of a blanket white enchantment.

SNow

Sunday the snow started falling; winter’s promise was still alive.

Terry and I spent Sunday warm and safe.  Although, a little on the bored side.

Boomer and I took a wee walk in the soft, muffled air.  Boomer doesn’t really walk with me, there is always so much more to see and do than stay right by my side.  Of course, now that cows are here he tends to not drift TOO far away!

Snow-2 Waking on the farm  is to walk to the sound of silence — for even the cows are quiet  in the falling snow.

SnowWalking is satisfying,  getting outside is delicious.

Snow-1

Monday morning the snow was thick and lush and rich.  As I shoveled the snow off the sidewalks there was only my footprints, Boomer’s and the cats!  (I enjoyed being the only human foot prints in the yard. 🙂 )

Snow! That gift of water for the spring, summer and fall!

We Woke-Up to a Fairy World—Sunday, January 10, 2016

Yesterday we had a wee melt. Complete with dashes of sunshine here and there, off and on!

Frost-6It was lovely.  Boomer and I walked in slush, and mud, and even on some dry spots.

Frost-3Later that afternoon, Terry, Boomer and I took a four-wheeler ride to the rocky hill. The chilled air knifing back in a shower of tiny bits of snow from the wheels of Terry’s four-wheeler, causing Boomer to snuggle up tight against me.  I found this comforting-his warm body smashed against my back.

Our farm and the neighboring farms were a winter painting, cows dotting the landscape far and away.  As we sat there, the sun hanging low in the sky, the silence was broken by a murder of crows, settling down on the farm, actually on the corn still standing in the fields, for their supper.

Frost-2Then over night the air cooled allowing us to wake up to a

Frost-1Winter wonderland.  It was lovely.  A vision of frost draping everything in it’s path. Life in the middle of a frozen cloud.

It’s all gone now…warmed up and melted away.  A winter fairy-land.

Your friend, in January, on a farm, on the western side of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.  🙂

HEY LADY!!!!—May 20, 2015

Hey-LadyThis darling little Bullock’s Oriole keeps cheeping at me.  I sure wish I could understand bird songs. Anyway this little guy has become my friend.  He is never far away as I work in the yard.  I talk to him all the time.

FemaleHis lady is much, much shyer.  Flits away and tries to hide.  It’s like she is saying…”You are silly brave, Honey!  Be Careful”.

Canyons

Sunny with lots of mud here.  SUNNY!

I hope your day is full of sunshine!  We all need sunshine!

Your friend,

Linda

Sunlight—Sunday, May 17, 2015

Miserable-1The cold rain and the sharp wind of the last few days has just been miserable.

Very-wet

The little birds have sat around in puffed feathers all hunched up…looking just…miserable.

Although…

Iris-1The rain has been lovely for my yard

Iris-2Everything is rich and lush and green.

LeavingLast evening, in a huge rush of wind, the clouds started parting and waving good-bye heading toward the north and the east.  (I waved delightedly to them as they left! 🙂 )

LHBAll the birds feathers laid back down

FemaleSongs filled the soft evening air!

Today we have scattered bits of sunshine, lots of bird songs and joy everywhere!

I hope you have a most lovely Sunday…a day of Sun—it looks like we will have!

Your Friend,

Linda

The Next Day—Monday, May 11, 2015

rain-2.jpgThe days always seem so L.O.N.G. when the skies are dreary and gloomy and grey…even the sitting sun could only lighten up the misty, dripping clouds a tad.  But I suppose a tinge of sunshine is better than no sunshine.  🙂

Terry has become worried that seed corn has rotted in the ground, we see nothing sprouting out there.  Later on today we will go out and check. If it has rotted then he will have to re-buy the seed and replant.  A very costly thing to have to do, but very necessary.

Bullock-OrieoThe little bird from yesterday’s drenching rain post

2Is a Bullock Oriole.  So far this year I have two pair.  I’ve tried sitting out oranges and grape jelly, which everyone assures me they love, but the jelly gets hard and the oranges dry up.

!Instead the little feathered friends are sharing the Hummingbird feeders with the Hummingbirds.  I have about eight hummers now–I’m thinking that is four pair.  I have six feeders out, and could possibly add another one.  But I’m not in a hurry—if the food starts going away faster then I will put out another feeder or two.  (I use 1 part sugar to 4 parts water, if you are interested.)

Today we have sunshine.  Sunshine sure brings joy to my soul.

Your friend on a soggy, but sunny day, farm,

Linda
