The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Nothing Much to Do

Mom and Dad sure have been busy.  So busy I haven’t got anything to do.

Sure has been boring.

LB

I tried following Mom while planting sweet corn, but it was just WAY too hot.

Panting down the rows is well…Boring!

Sam-on-the

Sam didn’t want to do anything but lay on the outside furniture and sleep.

That’s boring.

Mom got out the brush and comb and gave me a good going over…there was a pile of fur when she was done.  The sitting still was—well, boring.

Smile

But having all the fur off —Great!

Gosh…(sigh)…there is nothing fun to do.  Nothing!

Huh!?

Wait!?  What do I hear?

Bark

YES!!

Trucks

THE FEDEX MAN!  YIPPEE!

Mom

Now That was FUN!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Wet/Cold/Snow/Wind/Rain/Mud

Play I don’t have much to say today.  We, meaning Mom, Dad and Myself, are still trying to get the water down the fields, morning and night, sometimes noon and afternoon.

Snowing

I like irrigation season, but I sure don’t like this rain/snow/wind/rain/snow/mud stuff we are having now.  I still go, but I get really wet—my belly and my legs.  I need longer legs, I guess.

7

(There is mud out there, don’t let this fool you.)

Anyway, it’s so nasty and wet today, Mom told me I had to STAY at the house, ON my bed, in my BEDROOM.  She didn’t know but I STAYED right by the wood stove until I heard the 4-wheelers drive into the yard, then I slipped ever so quickly onto my bed in my bedroom.

TeeHee

There I was sitting there like I was ready to go outside, just as innocent as you please.  Mom came in and gave me lots of pets and a hug; said I was a good doggie all nice and dry and warm.  I agree—good dog, dry, warm…I gave her a huge smile and a kiss on the hands!

Other than lots of sleeping, not much going on.  I think the cats have it figured out…Mom and Dad get cold, wet and muddy.  We stay warm and dry!

Sun(What we woke up too.)

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Easter Sunday

We’ve entered my FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR!!! Spring Farm work!  That means, Dad, Mom and MYSELF are always, always, always out on the farm!  YAY!

Anyway, Easter Sunday was the last day we had company.  It was also the day we all headed to the Uncompahgre Plateau for the first spring picnic of the year!

Track-Practice

First things first, Blade is out for track at his local Middle School in Craig, Colorado.  Every morning he would run way up to the end of the first corn field (one mile) and then run back…he didn’t want to lose his leg and lung capacity.

Run with Hank

So Hank and I ran with him.  (Just between you and me…that’s HARD work!)

Easter2

Then it was time to head out for Lee’s Reservoir.

Easter-1We had a great time—I LOVED all the smells up there, just enjoyed every minute.

PaulJason’s Dad, Paul, was here and went with us.  Paul and Tally are great friends.  Tally is one of those people everyone really likes.

T

The newest dog niece came along also…meet Gypsy an American Bulldog.  I think she is an American bulldog…I might be wrong, she is a bulldog; that’s for sure.

New

Tayler (Gypsy’s kid) and Tally took outstand care of her, which worked for me.  I sure didn’t want to puppy sit.

Green

It’s been really windy for days here, but yesterday and today NO WIND! Mom said it was nice to set water in still air.  I thought it was nice to walk everywhere without getting dirt in my eyes!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Fun with Hank and the Kids

It’s been busy here!  I mean really busy.

Hank and I have had lots and lots to do!

Oh! Yeah.  Hank is here for 9 days! 9 Days of doing stuff with Hank and sometimes the kids!

YAY!

Fun-2

We went to the park

Grandpa pushed the girls, Hank and I sat with Mom-mom and Mom; then we stiffed around all the bushes.

More-walk

We went for a walk, actually many, many walks.  Hank and I walked with kids and then we would walk out onto the farm by ourselves.

RIDE

We tried to follow grandpa when he would take the kids for a ride, If Blade went on the 4-wheeler then Hank and I ran beside him…that was ALWAYS exhausting.  But Blade doesn’t go fast so we can keep up.

Swinging

We had a cook out where Blade played on the swing.  Mom said she was very happy to see the Swing going back and forth again.  J  Hank and I laid under the bushes and panted…it was hot that evening.

Water

One time we all went to the river and played in the water down there.

Tree

I even tried climbing a tree… (I didn’t like it.  Hank didn’t even try to climb the tree)

Creek-1

The girls took me out swimming…not a favorite thing of mine to do—but Hank loved it.

Water-3

Still more days to go…Hank and I, not best friends forever, like Fuzzy and I were,

Sharing

but good friends.

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—I Got To GO!!!

Tuesday afternoon, after a day of work, and me just hanging around the house being bored, Dad said “Let’s go for a ride around the place…just to get a change of scenery.”

Off we went, here there and everywhere…then way over by the equipment storage area Mom’s and my 4-wheeler just stopped.  We were moving along at a decent speed and it stopped.

Dead.

“It’s that CDI box,” Dad exclaimed in a very disgusted voice.  “I guess we will tow you back to the house.”

Pull

I think that was the first time I’ve ever ridden on Mom’s 4-wheeler when it didn’t make a sound.

Then the next day Mom said: “Come on, Boomer, you can go.  We have lots to do down at the other house, you might as well come along.”

YAY!

Ever since last fall when I got in the wonderful wonder goo down over the hill, from the other house Mom has not let me go with her down there.  If I get to go I have the hang-out with Mom the WHOLE TIME!

2

So this was a huge treat!

3

You see Mom and Dad were cutting down the front tree stump in the yard.

4I rode in the pick-up with Mom, then I hung out in the field,

5

(looking for beef jerky and milk duds, but I didn’t let Mom know that.) and slept in the shade of the pick-up while my folks worked.

7

We worked from early morning to late afternoon.  Only coming home for lunch.

Side-by-side

Sometimes I followed the tractor to the hollow by the Sage Brush hill.

It was a great day!  I had a marvelous time.

More-rest

After Mom fed me supper I hopped into my lounge chair, just letting all the food settle  you know.  🙂

Rest

I watched the house for a long time, until gradually……………….The Old Sandman got me  ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I guess I was a little tired.

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—My Job

I had company last weekend.

Not just little kids, but also DOG COUSINS!

Hank came!

Company

Rocky Chaco Man, the Rottweiler and

Love-Houston

Houston the Princess!

We did lots of stuff…sniffed around for news, found beefy jerky to chew on…carried in lots of milk duds for snacks and still chowed down on dog food!

Mom says the grandchildren are coming again TODAY!  That means Hank will be here again!

Dogs-and-BladeYAY!

Then everyone will go for Sunday Birthday party at Scout and Darby’s place.  I don’t get to go.  Neither do all of Shannon’s dogs, or Uncle Evan’s and Aunt Jolyne’s dogs…but Hank DOES!

Mom says Hank has to go, because he will leave from Grand Junction to go back to Craig after the party is over.

I think it would be neat to go see Scout and Darby, pout, pout, but Mom says “No, Boomie…you have to guard the place.”

So I guess (sigh) that is exactly what I will do.

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Robins

SIDE DETECTION

The Robins have returned!  Mom is so happy she stopped at the store and bought a bag of mealy worms.  I stuck my nose into the bag, but…whew!  It didn’t smell so good.

Then Mom, Dad and I went for a 4-wheeler ride and checked on the cows and calves.

$R

They are all looking good.  Mom thinks there are about 10-15 cows left to calve.

C#

That’s a good thing because they cows all have to leave next week.

C-1

The bigger the calf is the better to hoof it down the hill to their next pasture. (It isn’t far, just down the hill from our other house, but a long way when you are brand new.)

Hank-the-cow-dog

Hank’s HERE!  We’ve had a great time already…we’ve barked Mr. Davis down the road, Hank has barked at all the cows a few times (it always gets him yelled at… ‘Hank, stop!  You can’t bark at the cows’!)    We’ve checked out all the buildings and the equipment by the farm yard and hung out in the house with the little kids.

Oh, yes…the little girls are here and their Mom.  My Mom says Hank and his family get to stay here clear until Sunday afternoon!

I know Hank and I’ll be tired when they hit the road, but it will be a good tired.

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Midnight Walk

Walk-2“You up, Boomie?”  Mom asked me as she walked into the Living room.  Normally I sleep on the back porch.  I like the back porch, but when the wind blows I always come in and sleep by the wood stove.  Fuzzy didn’t like to sleep by the wood stove ever, said it made him way too hot.   Sometimes I have to have the heat…my fur is rather thin.

Walk--1

Anyway, Mom came by and asked if I was ready to go for a walk, “We can see the Moon, Boomer.  I haven’t seen the moon for a long time.”

“Walk?!?  Sure!  Let’s Go!”  I jumped up and beat Mom outside.  She took way too long putting on her coat and gloves and hat.

“Come on, MOM!!  LET’S GO!”  I waited for her with a huge smile on my face!

Off we went, Mom and I walked through the corrals, opening the gate was easier there.  We scared about 6 cows who were sleeping close to the loafing shed; they didn’t jump up, but they sure were startled.  Mom and I haven’t been walking late at night, because the weather has been so bad.

Off we headed toward the new pipe, that’s not far, maybe a ¼ of a mile…up we went, me sniffing around to see what and who has been moving around in the cows.  (Not many critters, Momma cows are really serious about not letting strange animals come in where they are living.)

Sky

Mom kept stopping off and on trying to get a good photo of the moon.  After a while she gave up and we walked back. By that time the air was calm and I was warmed up so I stayed on my big soft comfy bed on the porch.

Tried

“You can come sleep by the fire if you want too, Boom” Mom invited.  But I just looked at her and settled down.  ‘No Thanks, Mom.  I’m fine right here.’

Goodnight everyone,

Boomer.

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—Calf Check

In a small break in the weather, meaning no snow and a melt of sorts, (But no sun) Mom, Dad and I loaded up on the four-wheelers and headed out to check the cows and calves.

Calf

If you look where the big white arrow is pointing you will see a tiny calf.  Mom has her baby all snuggled up and warm against here body.

Brand-New

See the brand new baby trying to get up.  Mom just gave birth here.

All the cows are really tame, we can drive through them (slowly) and they never spook. I ride all the time, because just seeing me trotting alongside WOULD spook them.  Mom says I have to stay right next to her.

New

This one is hidden behind the equipment at the equipment storage area.

Mr. Davis and his daughter check them twice a day, sometimes three times a day always, always making sure the moms and babies are doing okay.  If there is one that is having trouble Mr. Davis and Theresa load them up and take them back to their really nice barn on the ranch.

For us, Mom, Dad and Myself, Boomer the Beagle,—we go out on the off-times to makes sure all is well.  Just this morning we heard the coyotes moving around in the cows, never a good thing.

Minutes-OldSo far all is right with our world.
