The Farm is Our Heart—-Monday, March, 26, 2018

Thankfully we got all the wood cut and piled.  Our youngest daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren came and helped us finished up the wood.  We are set now for at least a couple of years, depending on the weather.

The signs of spring are here, they are in the air, on the earth, in the fading sun or the rising sun, in the lighting shadows and the lengthening day.

I still feed the Red-Winged Blackbirds, although I’m seeing more and more Song birds in the yard and on the farm

I love their songs and strive to keep them here, as long as they will stay.  But as soon as the Upper End and the Back Forty green up…they will be gone to sing and mate in that special wonderland they call home.

Then once they are gone—the hummingbirds come so my little bird kitchen stays steady with the joy of winged-friends.

Everyday now is a call to the land, where work is not drudgery, but jubilation—we are adding to the chorus called Spring.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

The Moon—Our Big Beautiful Moon—January 31, 2018

Did you get to see anything?

We are heavily clouded here.  😦  Sigh!

But tonight as it rises again, I should at least get to see the full moon (Provided there is no clouds…..it was stunning last night, although not quite full.

This is a very interesting blog about the Moon, if you are interested!

Total Lunar Eclipse, Jan. 31, 2018

Even so…

We (Terry, Boomer, Mindy-cat and I) will take a wee walk-about in the light of the full moon tonight—or, if its still cloudy, a walk under moon lite clouds!

A Great Wind Passing Through—Tuesday, December 5, 2017

Sunday well into early, early Monday morning a great wind came through…bringing with it the cold front we are now experiencing…normal December temperatures. 🙂

The destructive wind picked up all the loose corn leaves (and any other thing) moving them from fields and slamming them onto fences, trees and anything else standing secure and tall.

The whole air rippled in the force of the wind, much like a wee tornado…full of dirt, bits of this and that; causing excitement when it landed in your eyes, ears or mouth.

The gale force winds (gusts up to 40-50 m.p.h.) pushed the bruised and glowering clouds away from us…taking any moisture there might have been to some place else…not here.

Now today, with shivery weather, blue skies and calm air…we welcome in traditional winter cold! It was 10* at our house this morning. (-12.22 celsius)

While the Gods Hold Their Breath— Thursday, August 3, 2017

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.”–Rachel Carson

I must confess I have a favorite word…it is a word I don’t use often, nor do I find ways to incorporate it into my conversations…like those common words: COOL, DUDE, YA KNOW…I don’t even sprinkle in this word here and there

but it is a word I think describes how I feel on a daily basis….

The word is Dazzle.

I feel dazzled as sun touches the word’s edge…morning or evening

Or the glittering lights sparkle on the ripples, making the rather muddy irrigation water twinkle like jewels — sending a blessing to all the water touches

Even the run, to check water, in the deep silence of the night brings out the sky drenched with twinkling stars, or moonlight seeping into everything — turning the world to silver

I feel a most profound and deep joy when the horizon is edged with a Rainbow…

Or the color of flowers is captured in a heap of clouds

I must confess I am most blessed…living on this amazing earth, which sails noiselessly between the stars

Dazzled…that pretty much sums up how I feel about life.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

It Feels Like Spring—-February 9, 2017

coming-backIt’s warm enough I can walk at night without a jacket, although I don’t stay out long.  A brisk little walk.

night-walk-terryTerry thinks I’m silly; he bundles up.  But I run hot so it’s not too bad for me.

The days are warm…it was 67* yesterday (19.44 c).  Too warm for a fire in the woodstove.

clouds-002The sky is stunning

snow-beagleThe snow in the canal all gone…the above is just a memory.

inOnce more we made the hour and a half drive to Parachute, Colorado to watch Blade play.  He made some of the winning points.

bladenThey won!!!

Then we drove back home getting in around 8 at night.  Tired but happy!

Two more games to go…we will be there, Terry told Blade.  Blade replied, “Good.”

He is so cute…when he sees us walk in…even, if he is warming up, he always, always gives us a wave.  15 years old and still likes having his grandparents hanging around.

Of course his grandparents LIKE to hang around.  🙂

Our Weather Report—-Tuesday, January 17, 2017

before-the-melt

We went from this

wet-004To this and have stayed at this for weeks now. Rain and rain and even more rain.

wet-003Sigh!  The days are long and grey and boring and ever so nasty.

roof-topStill it seems like there is always something that needs to be done.

walk-in-the-farmI’m looking forward to walking with  Boomer  in the SUNSHINE!  Where we throw shadows on the ground and our feet don’t collect mud!

But not yet!  Not today.  Not for awhile.  Another big storm system is heading in here in a day or so, until then just know that I am

Hot-Summer-NightDreaming of those hot summer nights some place in the future!

Calmness Taps me Softly—-Wednesday, August 10, 2016

Storm-CloudsComing in from the early morning irrigation…it was like looking into a dream–

Morning-RainbowA light summer rain moving away from us, fingers of light splashing across the fields, stroking the Uncompahgre Plateau…the air thick with ozone, the sky it’s very own arch of prism light.

Morning-Rainbow-2

Bird song filling the air, drowning out everything, but my pulse.

The earth, the sky, plants and water surrounding me — touching me gently.

How blessed I am!

Storms —Thursday, July 9, 2015

clouds-rAll day the clouds shifted here and there.  Sometimes dropping rain, moving on, gathering again, lashing out

Coming-closer

thunder, lighting, wind… the violence of each passing storm was exhilarating!

Soqn-pourThe earth, our crops, even myself sighed with relief. hLater in the night, well, actually early, early in the morning, the skies cleared and the stars came out.

We woke to a beautiful morning.  Fresh, clean, clear…a feeling of lightness in air!

Stillness—Tuesday, April 28, 2015

2I love the outdoors!  Even as a child I spend hours and hours by myself playing in Surface Creek, which ran behind our my parents home.  I enjoyed the freedom of riding my bike between our and my grandparent’s house. Walking through the cherry orchard, or the apple orchard looking for bird nests, or just laying in the irrigation ditches looking up at the sky, watching the clouds come and go.

Today we would say: “Becoming one with nature.”  Back then I was just ‘being’.

3I still love the outdoors.  The energy and the feel of earth, the sky, the elements — still give me that same peace I felt as a child.

4Walking home from the other house last night I thought the sun and the storm clouds and the feel of the earth of marvelous! This is our house looking from the other house.

5I tried to capture, for you what I was seeing and feeling.

14Beauty was everywhere.

Photo Gifts from Long-Time Blog Readers–Thursday, December 18, 2014

It is raining here. It’s also snowing…the flakes are huge and beautiful and wet.  We are warm for a snow storm so when the flakes make contact with something they burst into a wet drop.

KageDog a long-time blog reader, lover of Sandhill Cranes and all things Australia lives at the base of Grand Mesa in Cedaredge, Colorado.  She sent me a beautiful photo from her deck showing the clouds covering all the basins between Cedaredge and Delta.

Above-the-CloudsAmong all the wonderful Christmas cards Terry and I have received,  we also got this pretty coolBlack Guillemot in Winter in snow

Black Guillemot in winter plumage at Bangor from Margaret Adamson.

Thank you each and everyone of you for all of your Christmas Cards and Good Wishes.  We feel very lucky to have such wonderful blog friends in our lives!
